I stood outside the small detached house, breathing in the warm smells that came from the kitchen. I loved this home. And I loved the people inside it.
The sun had settled over the horizon, and the sky was a violent splash of orange against a cool blue. I knocked on the door.
It opened and a plump, brown-haired woman stood in the doorway.
"Lukas! This is a lovely surprise."
"Hi Yena. May I come in?"
"Of course, of course. We just finished eating, but I could scrape something together if you like?"
I shook my head. "Don't worry about me. Thank you."
I stepped inside, and headed to the sitting room.
The house was warm, homey. It made my heart ache.
Rowan was sitting in his chair in front of the fire, a calico cat purring on his lap. He looked up when I walked in.
"What's up, sir?" He asked.
I didn't sit down. "I need your help, Rowan. I know you're off tonight, but-"
"Don't worry about that. How can I help?"
