Chapter 23 - Unique Quest

Ranold's eyes darkened as he examined the box, his fingers running over the serpent wrapped around a dagger symbol. His grip tightened around the box as though he was about to crash it into smithereens.

"This is worse than I expected."

Yone raised an eyebrow at his words," So they aren't a bunch of assassins terrorizing the town?"

The Mayor exhaled deeply as he uttered," No, this symbol belongs to the Veiled Serpent, a highly secretive criminal organization. If they could afford to mess around in this forsaken town, then it can only mean that they have established a foothold in the city and will soon do so in the kingdom.

Overseer Rakan who had remained quiet up to this point, finally spoke," I feared as much. The sudden increase in missing adventures and person's reports connects everything together."

Ranold nodded," Requiem, do you understand the weight of the mission and the things you have uncovered?"

Ding! System notification:

Quest: Alter Ego (Sub Quest) Completed!

Rewards: 1500 EXP, 1 Gold Coin, Reputation +200 with Crystalized Stone Town.

New Reputation Rank: Trusted (Crystalized Stone Town).

Yone lips curled into a smirk as he read through the system notification,' 1 Gold Coin, this is an absurdly high reward for this stage of the game. Are these the benefits of completing a Unique Quest?'

'No! This has nothing to do with the quest itself. The player from my past life never spoke about such rewards so this can only mean that he either lied which is unlikely given that the stage of the game was in its midst and he didn't need to, or his rewards were far inferior to mine.'

Yone felt that his second guess made more sense and hit the point but didn't focus too hard on it and kept on listening as he knew things weren't done yet based on the gaze the Mayor was giving him.

Ranold's piercing gaze was fixated on Yone as he said," You've not just given the town big service but also the city Requiem. But this is just the beginning."

'Here we go,' Yone thought, joyful at the chain quests that are about to occur. For many players in his past life, receiving a Unique Quest with such value was one in a lifetime given that they only existed in starting towns, but later on, their value greatly diminished and high-grade quests would start appearing one after the other.

As for the Unique Quest chain? Yone had never heard of anyone receiving such a quest despite the 7 years he played the game, which greatly proved that the stat staggering at the same points by the system till level 10 was truly a great fortune but everyone failed to benefit from it.

Of course, just because he hadn't heard of anyone accomplishing or receiving a chain related to a Unique Quest didn't mean no one had done it or had it. It simply meant they hadn't leaked the information, which many people, especially solo players, often chose to keep to themselves.

Yone leaned back slightly, his face indifferent but was calculating various things inwardly," And what does that mean for me Sir Ranold?"

Clasping his hands together, Ranold said," It means I might have more work for you. Of course, only if you are willing to accept it."

Ding! System Notification: Chain Quest Triggered:

New Quest Available: Web of Shadows

Investigate the Veiled Serpent's next move.

Objective: Gather intelligence from a hidden informant inside the city.

Rewards: ???

Penalty: ???

This was a terrifyingly difficult quest at this game stage of the game, or rather say when he reached level 10...such quests were pretty annoying since they entangled you with an organization that went against the kingdom and the player would have to be in the middle.

Despite the penalty unknown, Yone knew it was greatly severe and it wouldn't be a surprise if it half cripple him upon failure. But... the benefits far outweighed the risks. No player had ever fully completed a Unique Quest in his past life, which meant that the final rewards were completely unknown but he had a vague idea of their worth.

Yone took in a deep breath and accepted the quest.

This was because Yone had once read in the library of the kingdom's capital that Unique Quests were so beneficial and overpowered that they could even alter the status quo of an entire region. It was just that the details were not mentioned, and no player had ever revealed anything about them. Thus, no one cared about them or bothered to look into them.

These unique chain quest rewards were extremely important for Yone since without them, he could never hope of establishing a foothold inside the city this early on as a solo player. As for creating a guild this early on? That was a thing for the future and it was wishful thinking for a broke person like him.

Yone didn't stay any longer as he bid farewell to the Mayor and Overseer Rakan before heading out of the Adventurer Association. His destination was the Fountain's Hall, where he would set up a stall and sell his items quickly.

He already had a lot of money for a solo player, beyond even guilds at this moment, if he spoke only about gold and silver that he could freely spend. However, the items he had would significantly drop in value over time, and he needed to get rid of them as fast as possible to fetch the highest price right now.

'The market is still starving when it comes to common items so my prices will be accepted regardless,' Yone chuckled as he went to the village administration building to get permission and pay for the five copper coins fee and then went to set up a stall a bit next to the door and placed his items, the prices hovering between 1 silver and above.

After his items were laid out, several players had already started gathering around, their eyes widening at the loot this player was selling.

Yone smirked seeing this scene,' Time to make some easy money.'

But before he could even begin, a voice cut through the crowd and hushed discussions.

"Who the hell gave you permission to sell here?"
