Crassus sat in the mayor's office, listening to the conversation at hand, though his mind wandered elsewhere. He had a long list of matters to attend to, but that changed when Elliott suddenly leaned toward him, his voice low and urgent.
"The police just called," Elliott whispered into his ear. "They said two women named Estella and Sophia are at the station. They dropped my number as their emergency contact."
Crassus stiffened. Estella and Sophia? His brow furrowed in surprise. What the hell did they do to end up at the police station?
He didn't ask any questions. He didn't waste time. He simply stood up. "We're leaving."
Elliott followed without hesitation, and they left the mayor's office in a hurry. The drive to the police station was tense. Crassus drummed his fingers against his thigh, his jaw clenched as his mind ran through possible scenarios. Were they in trouble? Were they hurt? Did they do something reckless?
