Chapter 13 - Giselle

150 years ago. Somewhere in the middle of the forest, under a beautiful night sky with two bright moons and millions of stars.

An elf village was burning. Many were screaming in pain and anguish. Others tried to run but were caught and their legs severed. An elf woman with purple hair was trying to protect her daughter. The little girl was Giselle.

They were hiding in a large tree trunk which acted as a home. There were doors and windows. They were in a secret room which had a wooden window that had cracks big enough for peeking through. Light from the raging fires outside shone into the darkness of where they were. The little girl looked outside trembling with fear as she saw her kind being slaughtered, burnt, captured and raped. All were done by the humans referring to themselves as knights.

The sight shocked her, but she couldn't look away. For this reason, she noticed another person who was watching everything unfold from the side lines. A woman with short red hair. She looked at her cautiously because of how scary she looked in her eyes.

But the woman turned to face her then their eyes met for a split second. The girl jumped back in terror because she knew that she was seen. Before she could warn her mother, the entire top of the tree was completely obliterated by magic. Now they were exposed.

They tried to run but were caught by one of the humans and were brought together with the others who were captured. They were put in a line, kneeling down and facing the woman. She came close to them and looked attentively. Then she turned and spoke.

"Kill the ones that look young. The rest will be slaves."

They obeyed. Then they grabbed the little ones and stabbed them one by one. Giselle clang onto her mother shouting that she didn't want to die. The woman heard her then turned around and looked at her. She approached Giselle and crouched down to her level.

As she crouched, Giselle heard something clatter. That's when she saw that the woman was a hero. She didn't understand why a hero would do something so evil.

"You beg for your life now out of instinct." The hero started. "That's what every living being does when it's at death's door. Understandable... And because I understand you, you must do the same for me. I am doing this for a better future of the world. My intentions are good."

As she spoke, Giselle was quivering behind her mother's back.

"Lies!" Her mother shouted in anger. "How could something so evil be done for good? Your killing children, for crying out loud!"

"Today they're children, defenseless and weak. Tomorrow they're fighters, aggressive and strong. They are the ones with the potential of doing what the old such as yourself can't do. They could be the ones to do what the goddess fears most. They could be the ones to..." She stopped and looked at Giselle. Then she sighed, got up and walked away. "Kill them both."

The soldiers obeyed and separated the two forcefully. Giselle cried and shouted for her mother who tried to fight back. She pushed the soldiers and took her daughter in her arms.

"I'm sorry." She whispered to her. "I only have enough for one person."

"Mom. What are you..."

"I love you."

Then Giselle glowed and disappeared out of the area. The hero noticed the mana and turned around in amazement.

"No way. There's an anti magic barrier around the village. Only I, the one who put it up, should be able to use magic here. And yet..." She said as she looked at Giselle's mother.

The knights began to scramble. around trying to find her. She wasn't far away. On the top of a tree nearby. She watched as everything was happening. Tears rolled down her eyes as she whispered, "Mom."

Then she saw the hero approaching her mother who was left on the ground alone. She tried to flee but fire came from the hero and burned her. Giselle covered her mouth and watched as her mother screamed in pain.

The hero wondered why she couldn't sense where Giselle was. She thought that her mother must've placed a protection spell on her. Two spells inside the anti magic barrier at that short amount of time. 'That's impressive.' She thought as she looked at the burning corpse.

Morning came together with its rain clouds. The fires stopped. Only ashes of houses and the dead were left behind. Giselle stood close to her mother's corpse and looked down at it, burnt and laying on the ground. Then there was a loud thunder and rain fell.

She was soaked. Her hair covered her face. For a while she didn't move a single muscle.

The rain continued for hours. At this time, she dug a large hole close to the village and put everyone there. Then she covered it back up. All was done using magic. Then she planted a tree on top and blessed it.

Whenever an elf blesses a tree or any plant, it grows up to ten times faster even in the harshest of conditions. That's why it began sprouting almost immediately.

Then she turned and left. With nothing in hand and nowhere to go. She knew that it'll be difficult. But there's one thing she could use that'll come in handy. Elven magic. Considered the most powerful of any kind. But at the same time, very intricate. And It didn't help that she was a child.

That wasn't what went through her mind though. She was angry. Angry at the hero, angry at the humans. That was her motivation to step into the forest. To become stronger so they couldn't be a threat to her again.

For all those years, she survived alone. It was obviously difficult at first, but she tried. Again and again. For 150 years, she lived and studied the humans. She thought that they were all the same. All were evil. None could be trusted.

Every time a human was a sleep close to her, she would see their memories and try to give herself hope they were good. The results, however, were always the same. So she did the same thing they did to the elves. She killed them, by burning or slaughtering.

However, for an elf, her power never grew. She could only use what she was taught by her mother. This made her too weak to free any captured demi humans. So she decided to continue what she's been doing.

Until she came across a person who was able to kill a green dragon. The same person who she couldn't see his memories properly. A human who spared her. A human who hates his own kind. A human who gave her hope that not all of them were the same. She believed this after the incident with Relvina.

She looked at me as we walked back. Then I asked, "What is it."

She smiled and looked in front. "Its nothing." Then we continued going back.

The next day was nice and bright. I was walking around the city seeing how everyone was doing. One street in particular was very lively. Stalls selling farm products and meat were packed with customers. Every where I walked they greeted me happily and said how they were doing.

Then I saw a clothing store and decided to see what they had to offer. When I got in, a beast woman of the dog kin greeted me.

"Young master. Greetings. It's a pleasure to have you in my presents. I'll go and prepare some tea." She was about to leave but I stopped her.

"Elyra. You know I can't eat anything."

"Oh. Right. Please forgive me."

Ever since I came to this world, for some reason, I never felt hunger or thirst. And when tried to eat or drink, I vomited violently. It's one of the things that Clara never answers when I ask.

"I'm here to see what kind of clothes you have. I've been thinking about changing what I wear." I did change them when I first went to see the king of Havvothj'air. But they felt a little weird since they were from this era.

"Of course. Allow me to show you what we have. This way please." She pointed where to go.

I took a look at the clothes and my was I shocked. Almost all of them looked like the type of clothes you'd find in a modern mall.

"Uh... Where did you get such clothes?"

"They used to be sold during ancient times. Back then, beast people loved them. And when a Beast person likes something, they will carry it on for generations. Besides, they still look pretty good in my eyes."

"So that's why others aren't wearing these. Because they're ancient. Wait a minute. Ancient?" I definitely want to know more. But now isn't the time. I have places to be.

I looked around and immediately saw what I wanted. The good old classic main character coat which looked more like a cloak. Black and thigh long, if that's a thing. Then a regular black shirt and black trousers. I still couldn't believe that those clothes were there. How were they made? This world keeps getting weirder and weirder. I definitely want to learn more.

I went out with my new clothes and even shoes, which looked like they fitted the timeline perfectly at least. I was ready.

I finally decided investigate the other sector. I don't have a single clue of what it could be. That made me even more anxious. So I left the city and headed for the north east.

At the same time, Nirvana and Nephilim were preparing to head out as well.

"Where to first?" Nephilim asked. "Aetheria, the empire, the holy kingdom, or another eastern nation?"

"We'll start where the situation is already dire." Nirvana answered. "The capital of Aetheria."

"Understood." Then they began to leave.

"Stay safe out there." Cassius said as he waved to them with a smile.

"We'll keep things in check around here." Grendel added.

As they were leaving the city, Nephilim's size began to increase quickly. Nirvana turned into a dragon. Both were now absolutely massive and horrifying.

The time had come, for Haven to be known by the world.
