Late at night, Wang Xue hurried through the VIP terminal of the international airport. She wore a long coat and sunglasses, her heels clicking against the polished floor.

Her assistant followed behind, carrying her luggage.

"Miss Wang, everything is arranged. A private jet is waiting," the assistant whispered.

Wang Xue nodded. "Good. Once I leave the country, no one can touch me."

She had planned this escape carefully.

The scandal had ruined her reputation, and she knew that if she stayed in China, Zi Ning and Lu Yichen would make sure she lost everything.

She couldn't let that happen.

She would leave, hide for a while, and then come back when the storm passed.

At least… that was the plan.

As she approached the security checkpoint, a group of uniformed officers stepped forward, blocking her path.

"Miss Wang Xue, please come with us."

Her face paled.

"What's the meaning of this?" she demanded.

One of the officers held up a warrant.

"You are under investigation for financial fraud and illegal business activities."

Wang Xue's hands trembled. "This is ridiculous! On what basis?"

A calm voice answered from behind.

"On the basis of the evidence I provided."

She spun around.

Zi Ning stood there, her expression cold and confident.

"You…" Wang Xue gritted her teeth. "You set me up."

Zi Ning smirked. "No, you set yourself up. I just made sure the truth came to light."

Wang Xue clenched her fists. "You think you've won?"

Zi Ning tilted her head. "Haven't I?"

At that moment, the officers grabbed Wang Xue's arms.

"No! Let go of me!" she screamed.

Her assistant backed away, afraid of getting involved.

"Take her away," the officer ordered.

As Wang Xue was dragged off, she turned her head and shot Zi Ning a venomous glare.

"This isn't over!"

Zi Ning watched her go, her expression calm.

"No," she murmured. "It's just over for you."

Outside the airport, Zi Ning walked toward her car, where Lu Yichen was waiting.

He leaned against the black luxury car, watching her with a knowing smile.

"You enjoyed that, didn't you?" he teased.

Zi Ning smirked. "Just a little."

Lu Yichen chuckled. "Good. But don't get too comfortable. There's always a bigger enemy lurking in the shadows."

She sighed. "I know. Wang Xue wasn't working alone, was she?"

His smile faded. "No. My sources say someone else backed her up. Someone even more powerful."

Zi Ning's eyes narrowed.

"Who?"

Lu Yichen looked at her seriously. "I don't know yet. But when we find out… we'll have to be ready."

Zi Ning nodded.

She had won this battle.

But the war was far from over.

The next morning, a mysterious email arrived in Zi Ning's inbox.

No sender. No subject. Just a single message.

You got rid of Wang Xue. But the real game is just beginning.

Zi Ning's heart skipped a beat.

Who sent this?

And what did they want?

She took a deep breath and deleted the email.

If someone wanted to play games with her…

She was more than ready.

Zi Ning stared at the blank screen of her laptop.

The email was gone, deleted.

But the words still lingered in her mind.

You got rid of Wang Xue. But the real game is just beginning.

Who sent this?

What did they mean by "the real game"?

She leaned back in her chair, deep in thought.

Lu Yichen walked in, holding a cup of coffee.

"You look like you've seen a ghost," he said, setting the cup in front of her.

Zi Ning picked it up and took a sip.

"Not a ghost," she murmured. "Something worse."

She turned the laptop toward him and explained about the email.

Lu Yichen's expression darkened.

"Anonymous message?" he muttered. "That means someone powerful is behind it. Someone who doesn't want to show their face yet."

Zi Ning nodded. "I have a feeling this person was behind Wang Xue all along."

Lu Yichen exhaled. "And now that she's gone, they're making their next move."

A tense silence filled the room.

Then, Lu Yichen's phone buzzed.

He glanced at the screen and frowned.

"What is it?" Zi Ning asked.

Instead of answering, he handed her the phone.

It was a news article.

"Top Businesswoman Wang Xue Arrested at Airport—Shocking Financial Crimes Exposed!"

Zi Ning wasn't surprised.

But as she scrolled further, her eyes widened.

A section of the article caught her attention:

"A reliable source claims that Wang Xue was working under the orders of an influential business figure. Authorities are now investigating several high-profile names in connection to the case."

Zi Ning looked up.

"They already know someone else was behind this."

Lu Yichen's expression was unreadable.

"This means we're not the only ones searching for the mastermind. The police are, too."

Zi Ning's grip on the phone tightened.

"That means…"

Lu Yichen nodded.

"They'll make a move soon."

That afternoon, Zi Ning received an unexpected visitor.

A young woman in a sharp business suit arrived at her office.

Her name was Jiang Yue, a well-known investigative journalist.

Zi Ning had heard of her before.

She was famous for exposing corruption and scandals in the business world.

Jiang Yue smiled politely as she sat across from Zi Ning.

"I'll get straight to the point," she said. "I know Wang Xue's downfall wasn't an accident."

Zi Ning's eyes stayed calm.

"Oh?" she said lightly. "And what makes you think that?"

Jiang Yue smirked.

"Because someone wants to erase all traces of her past dealings. And that someone might be closer to you than you think."

Zi Ning narrowed her eyes.

"Are you saying that Wang Xue was just a puppet?"

Jiang Yue nodded.

"I've been investigating this case for months. Wang Xue was involved in illegal businesses, but she wasn't smart enough to run them alone. Someone with real power was controlling her."

Zi Ning folded her arms.

"And what do you want from me?"

Jiang Yue leaned forward.

"I want to work with you. We both have the same goal—finding the mastermind."

Zi Ning studied her.

Jiang Yue seemed sincere.

But could she be trusted?

Lu Yichen had warned her—this wasn't just a simple scandal.

There were bigger forces at play.

If she made the wrong move, it could cost her everything.

After a moment, she spoke.

"I'll think about it."

Jiang Yue smiled. "That's all I ask."

She handed Zi Ning a business card.

"If you find anything, call me."

Then, she stood up and left.

Zi Ning stared at the card, deep in thought.

Should she work with Jiang Yue?

Or was this another trap?

That night, Zi Ning drove home alone.

Lu Yichen had a meeting, so she insisted on handling things herself.

But as she turned onto a quiet street, her car's brakes suddenly failed.

Her heart pounded.

She pressed the pedal harder, but the car didn't slow down.

Instead, it sped up.

A truck appeared in front of her, headlights blinding.

Zi Ning's mind raced.

She grabbed the steering wheel and yanked it hard to the right.

The car swerved and crashed into a metal barrier.

Pain shot through her body as the airbags deployed.

For a moment, everything was silent.

Then, she heard footsteps.

Someone was approaching her car.

Through the cracked windshield, she saw a shadowy figure.

They were dressed in black, face hidden.

The person leaned down and whispered through the broken glass.

"Stay out of this, Miss Zi. This is your only warning."

Then, they disappeared into the night.

Zi Ning's vision blurred.

She had no doubt now.

The mastermind had just made their move.

And they wanted her dead.
