Chapter 8 - — Force of The Past

Dimitri Morgan continued his way down. Uncovering the corpses.

"It's quite odd. Six dead wolves. Nothing else, the cuts are recent. Whatever killed them is either up ahead, left, or. It's with us…right now."

Dimitri suddenly stepped back a bit. His eyes looked like he had felt something. Something empowering. In his head he could only think.

'What the hell? Why do I feel such an overwhelming power? And it's not even coming from forward…it's coming from around me. There's something extremely powerful stalking me…'

Jack, noticing the look. Quickly shuffled quietly to the side.

'Did he notice me? The system did say some entities would still be able to feel the power of my past. Which seems to be true…'

"It was probably just my imagination, Mira. Let's continue."

His assistant, Mira, looked a bit uncomfortable. She was worried. Even the power of an S-Rank didn't seem to make her feel safe in a rift. No matter how weak it was. As Jack quietly followed. Dimitri summoned white flames in the palm of his hand. His guild was called that for a reason. The path split 5 different directions. In which Dimitri was able to split the fire five ways.

'Hm…that's an interesting way to use magic.'

Jake felt tremors. The white flames resurfaced. Giant pillars of inferno just barely scraped the edge of the pathways. The small fireball had been able to cause a giant explosion five ways forward.

'If hunters in this world are this strong…maybe they'll have a chance against the true threats of the incursion. But then again. I didn't even use magic so I'm not sure if that blast is as strong as it looks. But…his power is a bit similar to the heavenly king. Just…a lot weaker.'

"…well. The boss is dead. I can't feel it's aura anymore."

"O-Okay Mr.Morgan…"

The S-Rank and his assistant departed. Jack dropped his camouflage.

"He seriously killed the boss that fast? I was hoping to leech a bit."

Jack sighed and dashed through the tunnels. But…as he entered the bosses lair. The boss was definitely dead. It was incinerated to bits. He walked to the back of the room and found…a door.

"…what the hell is this?"

Jack pushed open the door. And found himself standing in a long hallway. Illuminated by white flame. He noticed the slight frame of a moderately large throne in the back. He walked forward. Taking in his surroundings. And found a corpse on the throne.

"…that's brutal. Poor guy…wait…."

There was an eye still left on the corpse. It glowed with golden light. Jack started laughing.

"How the hell did you end up here, Heavenly King of Destruction?"

Jack reached for the eyeball.

'This could be a good source of power if I could get my hands on—'

The corpse stirred to life. Swiping forward at Jack. Jack quickly dodged backwards.

'Shit, this could be bad…I don't know how his corpse ended up in this timeline…'

Jack pulled out the broken sword and sighed.

'I sort of have to fight him. If I don't fight him he can break through the rift.'

He stabbed the sword into the side of the corpses neck, ripping apart of its rotting flesh off. The corpse screamed in agony.

'At least he doesn't have a weapon. He's probably a lot weaker because he's been decaying...'

Jack stabbed again, and again into the corpse, the corpse was slow. Incredibly weak compared to its peak form. But there was a problem. It wasn't going down. The more Jack teared it apart he noticed it wasn't even being hindered.

'Shit…obviously…he's a corpse he's not gonna die…unless…'

Jack noticed the glowing eye again.

"Ha, I thought you wouldn't be reduced to such a puny last resort. Using the last remnants of your body to keep yourself alive."

Jack ran his blade through his eye. And teared it out. The corpse was reduced to ash as he pulled his blade out.

'Hmph, he didn't have the same skill as me…so why…'

[Answer: The Heavenly King of Destruction is a higher life form. And your skill not only covered yourself, but your whole planet, his soul migrated along with yours. But he did not have the system, so his body was not reconstructed. And so he remained a rotting corpse.]

"Ah, that makes sense I guess. Though, it would've been useful if that had been told to me beforehand."

Jack picked up the eye, it had remained on his blade. Which meant it was a spoil.

[Item Name: Eye of The Destruction. Item Rank: SS Item description: When the heavenly king was blessed with his power and took command of the armies of the in between, his eyes were empowered with powerful magic, granting him about a second of clairvoyance. While also allowing him to see through mana waves and detect things normal people cannot. While also being able to use a reverse calculation. The ability to use clairvoyance is unusable due to its rotting state as well as the ability to use reverse calculation. Crush the eye and gain its power.]

'So 2/3 of the power just isn't usable…but it's still useful either way.'

Jack crushed the eye. And felt power flow into his left eye, and suddenly he could see beyond the walls, he could sense mana signatures. And they were coming from the rift.

'An attack squad? Already? Shit…'

Jack turned on camouflage and blitzed towards the entrance. Grazing past the attack squad. He exited the gate and turned off his camouflage after he was far enough. Suddenly he heard a female voice behind him.

"Neat trick you've got there, Jack. Where'd you pick up that one?"

'Shit.'

Jack turned around. For some reason his heart was going crazy. He recalled the woman he was facing. In this timeline, she was his childhood friend, Luna. She was an S-Rank hunter and pretty much left Jack in the dust. He had never met this woman in 'his' life, but his body had, and it's reaction was overwhelming him.

"Uh…hey, Luna."
