Chapter 64 - Unknown temple(4)

The archer looked at one of the walls, one on which there was the witch and sighed loudly, starting his next tirade, something that he seemed quite fond of seeing as he continuously send out waves of them.

"Well I don't really know about the witch or that figure on the door, though that one seriously scares me, but I do think that I know the legends correlating to the other three, you know, the silver dragon, the giant king Mando and the formless fiend. They are pretty popular myths back where I come from."

He took a small breather and soon after looked at the wall clad in the pictures of the silver dragon, that might also just be a silver knight, and seemingly began recollecting what he knew, recollecting the information that Cades was so hungry for.

"The silver dragon is a story of great renown, a story of the grace of the gods. Long, long ago there was a great dragon clad in golden armor, each of its scales illuminated by the light of the two suns of my home world, and each of its talons as big as a dozen men. According to the myth it was a master of magic, a being that was able to imbue its own will, or rather intent, on whatever it wanted, it was an artisan, an engineer, an archer like me, and so many more, but that's just what a dragon is, isn't it ?"

The archer paused for a moment and looked at the never-moving Cades that was still staring at him with a weird glint in his eyes that truly just showered how much he hungered for knowledge, and after waiting a few seconds and not receiving an answer he began talking anew.

"Anyways, bla bla bla, the dragon slew its enemies, rained fire upon a whole empire and so much more, according to the myth, which many, including me, don't entirely believe. After its reign raged for a few centuries, it had committed countless atrocities and ogre-king eliminated it under the tutelage of the gods, and so we were free, and that those that defied, those that fought the gods with their atrocities finally died.

A story that warns us to take care of and serve under the great gods."

The archer once more took a deep breath as he looked towards the giant king, the king which he claimed to be called Mando, a name different from the one Cades knew from his own worlds version of this legend, and soon began talking once more, now in a rather uplifted tone.

"After that there is probably the most common of the stories depicted in this accursed temple, the story of the king of giants, Mando, though his name is wildly discussed, according to the legend the gods wanted to cure a horrid disease that the giants were suffering from but the giants thought that they were trying to attack them, so they fought back. Actually, sometimes it is also claimed that the gods were indeed trying to solve the problem of their horrible disease, on the other end, others say that the gods cure had a side effect, the loss of magic, especially bad for the giants, a race specializing in magic.

You know, it is kind of ironic, the biggest and strongest of the humanoids races, at least according to their appearance, is supposedly also the greatest in magic. On the other hand they do supposedly live for millennia on end, and have a great hunger for wisdom, such as the ancient king of giants, the one before the one we are talking about, the one who sacrificed his eye for wisdom.

What was his name ?

Was it.. Odin...

..well, that doesn't matter right now, this story is after all more so about Mando, a story about those that defied, those that lashed out without reason when others were just trying to help."

Though Cades did believe that that might be up for discussion he still was quite interested, he had drawn the same conclusion about these paintings, but now that he thought about it, these paintings weren't exactly conclusive, it's not like it was written on there or anything.

The archer meanwhile took another breather, looking towards the last wall that he claimed to know about and lightly sighing, his eyes slightly wavering, the golden glint almost entirely vanishing and his breathing becoming melancholic as he thought about the last of the stories he remembered.

And finally he began talking, he began telling his last story to Cades who was still full of hunger for wisdom.

"This is perhaps one of the most tragic legends told back where I come from, the story of a beautiful girl who was cursed by a horrid devil, and transformed into what seems to be a kurakkan, or.. maybe a slime. Personally I believe that they just took something from her, from the painting I infer that they.. might've.. taken their.. looks ?

..Seeing as they emphasized how beautiful the girl is in the painting, in comparison to all the others.

Added to that every drawing on that entire wall just shows people doing normal, everyday thing, so, though in the story it just talks about wariness, this probably signifies those that did nothing, those that were truly innocent."

After some time the archer finally started talking again, this time about his won assumptions, resulting in him looking a lot more indifferent than before.

"For that witch person, I have no idea, perhaps she stands for those that serve, those that are loyal ?

And for the last one, the one on the door, I have no idea..

But in the end it's all up to ones own interpretation, isn't it ?

However, " The archer looked around and pushed himself up from his seated position, " I'd say that we should go once more, now that we calmed down and you looked at every single engraving in this accursed temple."
