Before Misty could say anything, Satoshi let out an excited roar!
Even though he was usually calm, the thrill of battle always fired him up—especially in a direct confrontation where he was at a disadvantage.
His shout wasn't just an order to Grovyle; it was also a way to boost its morale.
While this world didn't operate on the ridiculous logic that "power increases with shouting," there was no denying the impact of sheer fighting spirit.
On the battlefield, Grovyle responded with a roar of its own, despite being heavily suppressed and on the verge of defeat.
But even in such a dire situation, it didn't hesitate to follow Satoshi's command.
Its free hand clenched into a fist, electricity crackling to life.
The battlefield flashed with electric light.
On one side, Grovyle's left hand was struggling against Lapras' Ice Beam, slowly losing the clash.
But at the same time, its right hand was quickly gathering power.
It all happened in an instant.
The moment Ice Beam overpowered Thunder Punch, Grovyle's left arm was pushed back—
But in that split second, its right fist was already charged!
Even as Ice Beam struck Grovyle's body, freezing parts of its limbs, Grovyle's right Thunder Punch smashed into Lapras' abdomen, slamming it into the water!
Lapras, who had been floating comfortably above the battlefield's pool, was suddenly knocked below the surface.
The impact caused Grovyle to momentarily hover in midair before it, too, plunged into the water.
And then…
A deadly realization struck Misty.
Thunder Punch + Water = Disaster.
CRACKLE—!!
Electricity surged through the water, sending violent shocks throughout the entire battlefield!
Satoshi's eyes widened.
"Wait… I didn't even plan for this."
A few seconds later, both Grovyle and Lapras floated to the surface, completely unconscious.
Their swirling eyes confirmed it—they were both knocked out!
Misty was in complete disbelief.
"What… We were winning, and now it's a double knockout?!"
Lapras had every advantage—higher level, better durability, and complete control of the battlefield.
She had planned to take down Grovyle without even a scratch.
Yet somehow, Satoshi had turned it into a draw!
She had lost far more than she had expected.
Satoshi blinked, scratching his head.
"Uh… I was just trying to trigger Thunder Punch's paralysis effect on Lapras. I kinda forgot about the water conducting electricity part."
He laughed awkwardly.
Misty's eye twitched.
Ding!
No experience gained for a double knockout. However, due to Exp. Share, other Pokémon still receive experience.
Ding!
Riolu has leveled up! Now Level 33!
Satoshi smiled.
"Not bad. Could've been worse."
Neither Charmeleon nor Frogadier reacted, which meant they hadn't leveled up yet.
Without wasting time, Satoshi recalled Grovyle into its Poké Ball and immediately used his Evergreen Ability to heal it slightly.
Why heal it now?
Simple.
As long as a Pokémon still had battle capability, it could continue gaining experience from Exp. Share.
If Grovyle stayed knocked out, it wouldn't earn anything.
A small trick, but an important one.
Misty sighed, recalling Lapras.
"I can't believe that actually happened…" she muttered.
She had been certain she would win that round.
And yet, here they were.
She glanced at Satoshi.
"Was it luck? Or was it just the result of your determination?"
Satoshi smirked.
"You tell me. If I had hesitated earlier and didn't attack, would this battle have ended differently?"
Misty hesitated.
Then, she sighed.
"You're right. If you had hesitated, then only Grovyle would've gone down. Lapras would've still been standing."
She let out a small chuckle.
"I guess that's the lesson here. You can't decide a battle's outcome until the very end."
She took a deep breath, then grabbed her third Poké Ball.
"Alright. Lapras is down. Now it's time for my final Pokémon."
Her tone became serious.
"Get ready, Satoshi. By Alliance regulations, I can't use my strongest Pokémon against you… But this time, I'll fight you with everything I've got!"
Satoshi's smile didn't fade as he pulled out his own Poké Ball.
He knew exactly what was coming.
"Misty, did you forget what I told you last night?"
Misty raised an eyebrow.
Satoshi chuckled, then repeated his words from before.
"No matter who the opponent is or how strong they are—
I'll always fight with the belief that I can win."
Misty blinked, then grinned.
"Hah. Yeah, that was a dumb question, wasn't it?"
She exhaled, then tossed her Poké Ball.
"Come out—Gyarados!"
Satoshi responded in kind.
"This time, it's your turn to battle—Riolu!"
With a flash of light, two blue Pokémon appeared on the field.
But the size difference between them was staggering.
Gyarados—
6.5 meters tall, a terrifying sea serpent.
Riolu—
0.7 meters, a small, agile fighter.
A massive power gap.
But in the world of Pokémon, size didn't determine strength.
Satoshi observed Gyarados closely.
"Hmm… You sure it's okay to fight?"
He knew that Misty had recently captured this Gyarados, and it had struggled with control issues before.
Misty smiled confidently.
"Don't worry. After last night's treatment, it's almost fully recovered. A battle like this will help it loosen up even more."
She then pulled something from her pocket—a bracelet.
She slid it onto her wrist.
Satoshi's eyes narrowed slightly.
"A bracelet? Is she using a battle accessory? Or…"
Misty raised her hand.
"Satoshi, are you ready?"
Her voice was full of confidence.
"This time, I'm not holding back. You better be prepared!"
She turned to her Pokémon.
"Gyarados—let's show him our full power!"
