Satoshi smirked the moment Misty revealed the bracelet on her wrist.
"So, it's Mega Evolution again, huh?"
He had already expected this outcome.
Ever since his first Gym battle in Pewter City, where Brock had unleashed a Mega Aerodactyl, he knew that every Gym Leader was bound to have a Mega Evolution ace up their sleeve.
While he wasn't completely familiar with Pokémon Generations A, there were a few things he had come to understand:
1. High-level, high-potential Pokémon could be found in the wild.
2. Rare and even enhanced items were unusually easy to obtain.
3. Every Gym Leader and notable Trainer seemed to have access to Mega Evolution.
So when Mega Gyarados appeared before him, Satoshi wasn't fazed.
And neither was Riolu.
Mega Evolution had changed Gyarados' typing from Water/Flying to Water/Dark.
That meant it was now weak against Fighting-type moves—which happened to be Riolu's specialty.
Of course, Misty wouldn't use Dark-type moves against Riolu now, since Fighting-types resisted them.
That alone meant some of Mega Gyarados' move pool was already compromised.
"You don't even look surprised. Have you seen Mega Evolution before? Or did you just expect me to use it?"
Her suspicion only grew when she realized that Riolu, a Fighting-type, was his chosen Pokémon for this battle.
Had he planned for this?
Satoshi shrugged casually.
"When I fought Brock in Pewter City, he used a Mega Aerodactyl against me. He had a bracelet like yours. After that, I did some research and learned about Mega Evolution from the Kalos Region."
"Since I knew you had a Gyarados, I figured you might Mega Evolve it—so I sent out Riolu to counter it."
His explanation was half-true.
In reality, he didn't need to do research—he already knew about Mega Evolution from his past experiences.
Misty crossed her arms, smirking.
"So, you know how strong Mega Evolution is. But why do you still look so confident?"
Satoshi's grin widened.
"The first time I saw it, I wasn't prepared. That made things difficult."
"But now? I'm ready. And I'm a lot stronger than before."
He clenched his fist.
"Is beating Mega Gyarados really that hard?"
"Riolu, Double Team! Spark Flash!"
With that command, Satoshi took the initiative and attacked first!
Riolu, completely fearless, split into four clones using Double Team.
Then, with Quick Attack, it rushed straight at Mega Gyarados!
If this had been yesterday, Riolu would've been forced to back down.
Mega Gyarados, even without Mega Evolution, was a monster in terms of raw strength.
But today?
Today, Riolu wasn't backing down.
A single day of training under Satoshi had pushed Riolu to new heights.
It was faster. Stronger. More confident.
And it knew it was on the verge of evolution.
But first, it needed to defeat Mega Gyarados.
Misty's eyes narrowed.
"You're charging straight in?"
Her voice was cold.
"You're underestimating me!"
She snapped her fingers.
"Mega Gyarados, Dragon Rage!"
Mega Gyarados roared, unleashing a fierce Dragon Rage towards Riolu!
The burning energy blast shot straight through the clones—but they all vanished.
"Hmph, I won't fall for that twice!" Misty huffed.
"Mega Gyarados! Dragon Pulse! Sweep the area!"
A powerful Dragon Pulse erupted from Mega Gyarados' jaws, spreading across the battlefield.
Misty's strategy was simple—if she couldn't find the real Riolu, she'd just blast everything in range.
As the energy wave swept the field, Riolu's real body flinched for just a moment—revealing its position!
"There you are!" Misty's eyes gleamed.
"Mega Gyarados, Hydro Pump!"
Mega Gyarados reared back, opening its massive jaws to fire a high-pressure water cannon.
At this close range, Riolu wouldn't be able to dodge!
Or so it seemed…
Satoshi smirked.
"Not bad. But I already planned for this."
He pointed forward.
"Riolu, Copycat! Counter with Hydro Pump!"
