Chapter 623 - The Tragic Case of a Bread

The sky was ablaze with gunfire, deafening explosions echoed through the air, and cannonballs rained down like a violent storm. The entire town was engulfed in raging flames, reduced to ruins by the relentless bombardment. Thick smoke billowed into the sky, while the suffocating stench of gunpowder filled the air.

The terrified residents of the town fled in panic, their cries of despair merging into a chorus of agony. But surrounded by more than a dozen warships, where could they possibly escape to?

Kaguya turned, gazing at the now-destroyed Ohara, and murmured softly, "So, this is what they call justice?"

Beneath her seemingly calm words was a thick layer of sarcasm.

In her view, so-called justice was nothing more than a tool used to control the ignorant masses.

At this moment, Robin and Olvia, the mother and daughter, had finally recovered from the overwhelming joy and sorrow of their reunion. Just moments ago, their tearful embrace had moved everyone present.

Olvia limped forward and said, "Thank you for saving us. If it weren't for you, I might have—"

Kaguya waved her hand, cutting her off. "I never intended to save you. I simply dislike owing favors."

Olvia paused, uncertain of what Kaguya meant.

Kaguya looked at Robin, who was clutching Olvia's hand tightly, then bent down slightly and asked, "Why did you give me your bread earlier? If I'm not mistaken, you haven't eaten yet either, have you?"

Robin, having steadied herself from the emotional turmoil, wiped her tears and replied, "Because I know what hunger feels like. It's awful."

Olvia bit her lip upon hearing this, unconsciously tightening her grip on Robin's small hand.

Kaguya was momentarily taken aback before letting out a soft chuckle.

A little girl, despite her own struggles, still thought to help others. Yet those who called themselves enforcers of justice couldn't even grasp this most basic of principles. How ridiculous.

Kaguya turned and began walking toward the shoreline where the warships were docked.

It was time to settle some things. Not to save these despairing people, not to play the role of a benevolent savior, and certainly not for the sake of so-called justice. She simply found the Navy's arrogance annoying.

Seeing the direction Kaguya was headed, Olvia quickly said, "That's where the Navy warships are. The entire area is surrounded. It's incredibly dangerous. They won't spare anyone."

Olvia was clearly aware of the Navy's "thorough" approach to eliminating threats.

Kaguya glanced back with a slight smile. "And because it's dangerous, that makes it all the more fun, doesn't it?"

With that, she stomped her foot. The ground shattered beneath her, and in an instant, her figure shot into the sky like an arrow, vanishing into the horizon.

Robin gazed up at the disappearing figure, her large, bright eyes filled with admiration. She clenched her tiny fists.

If only she could be that strong.

Meanwhile, aboard the massive Marine warships.

"Vice Admiral Sakazuki, the refugee ship that attempted to escape has been destroyed at sea. All several hundred people on board were wiped out." A Marine officer shouted.

Aokiji, who had been reclining on a bench, furrowed his brows ever so slightly upon hearing this. But he said nothing, merely pulling down his eye mask to cover his eyes.

"Good," Akainu nodded, his cold, expressionless face remaining unchanged. With a wave of his large hand, he commanded, "Continue the bombardment. Seal off every inch of the coastline. Any criminals attempting to flee—execute them on sight."

"Yes, sir!"

Vice Admiral Yamakaji approached, gazing at the burning hellscape that was once Ohara. "It looks like this will be over soon."

Just then, a commotion broke out among the Marines. They pointed toward the distance in shock, exclaiming, "W-what is that?!"

Yamakaji was startled. He immediately turned to look in the direction the Marines were pointing—and his eyes narrowed sharply.

In the far-off sky, a small black dot had appeared, speeding toward them at an unimaginable pace.

Cannonballs fired at it seemed to collide with something invisible in midair, exploding before they could even reach their target.

With Yamakaji's keen eyesight, he could naturally see that the small black dot was not just any object—it was a person.

Could this be an enemy attack?

Someone actually dared to directly confront a Marine force with five Vice Admirals?

That thought barely flashed through his mind before the figure had already reached the skies above the warships.

"Who are you?"

"They came onto the warship?"

"Seize them!"

"Kill on sight!"

"Yes, sir!"

The heavily armed Marines on deck immediately surrounded the intruder, raising their rifles to take aim. But the moment they saw her face, they hesitated for a brief moment.

A single thought crossed all of their minds simultaneously—

Such a breathtakingly beautiful woman.

But in that fleeting moment of distraction, she raised an arm.

A long sword, gleaming with a radiant blue light, instantly appeared in her grasp. Then, before the stunned eyes of those around her, her arm suddenly swung forward.

An incomparably dazzling light streaked across the sky—like a brilliant arc of rainbow light—slashing through the hull of the warship in an instant.

The Marines opened their eyes, exchanging confused glances, unsure of what had just happened.

Then, a harsh, grating "creeeeak" rang out suddenly, and the ship beneath them began to tremble. Seawater surged into the vessel.

It was only then that the Marines realized in horror—

The warship had been cleanly sliced in two.

And it wasn't just one ship.

The five warships aligned along the coast had all suffered the same fate.

Only now did the Marines fully grasp the situation. They looked up at the silver-haired girl floating in midair, their faces filled with disbelief.

One single slash.

With just one strike, she had cleaved five fully armed Marine warships in half.

Who was she?

How could anyone possess such terrifying power?

"Help!"

"Aaaaaah!"

"The warship is sinking!"

"Run!"

As seawater poured in, the severed warships began to sink slowly. The Marines scrambled to deploy lifeboats and fled in all directions. But with so many people aboard such massive vessels, relying on lifeboats alone was impossible to save them all.

Just as despair took hold of the Marines, a deep and commanding voice suddenly rang out.

"Ice Age."

The moment the words were spoken, the sea surface rapidly froze. Even the warships on the water were encased in ice. In just a short span of time, the once surging ocean had transformed into a solid, icy plain.

Kaguya observed the scene before descending from the sky. With a flick of her wrist, she spun her sword in a graceful flourish. A smirk tugged at the corner of her lips as she remarked, "Didn't expect to find such a big shot here—what a surprise."

"If you interfere with this mission, that would be quite troublesome for me."

A tall figure, wearing a cap, stepped forward—it was Aokiji.

The range of Ice Age was immense, freezing nearly the entire coastline around Ohara. Even the warships were not spared from their icy fate.

However, because of this, the warships that had been cleaved in half were spared from immediately sinking to the ocean floor, giving the stranded Marines enough time to evacuate from the wreckage. Otherwise, most of them would have ended up in the water, becoming food for the fish.

"I didn't expect to see such a powerful figure in the East Blue," Aokiji scratched his head, then looked up seriously and said, "Hey, I don't know who you are, but I'd advise you—it's best if you don't interfere in this matter."

Kaguya turned to face Aokiji, smiling as she said, "I think you might have misunderstood something."

"Misunderstood?" Aokiji blinked in slight confusion, unsure of what Kaguya meant.

"You don't actually think I'm here to save Ohara, do you?" Kaguya absentmindedly ran her fingers along the blade of her sword as she spoke.

"Isn't that the case?" Aokiji asked curiously.

If she wasn't here to save Ohara, then why had this woman suddenly appeared to stop the Marines' assault?

"No, I'm not some firefighter," Kaguya shook her head, the corner of her lips curling up. "I'm here because I don't like you guys—so I came to beat you up."

What kind of ridiculous reason was that?

Just as Aokiji was momentarily stunned, Kaguya suddenly stomped down, her body launching forward like an arrow shot from a bow. In an instant, she closed the distance and attacked at lightning speed.

Clang!

With a flick of her fingers, a crisp and melodious sound rang out as the radiant blue light of her long sword flashed. The moment she swung her arm, a dazzling cold light streaked across Aokiji's body in a blink of an eye.

"So fast—"

Aokiji's pupils shrank sharply.

In just the blink of an eye, Kaguya had already appeared behind him.

With a "clang," Kaguya smoothly slid her blade back into its sheath.

At the same moment, Aokiji's body suddenly split in two, crashing onto the ground.

The Marines watching were utterly shocked.

"This is bad—Vice Admiral Kuzan has been killed!"

"Damn it! She ambushed him!"

"How despicable!"

"Kill her! Avenge Vice Admiral Kuzan!"

"Attack! Avenge the Vice Admiral!"

After a brief moment of stunned silence, the Marines erupted in fury. Seeing their Vice Admiral slain, they did not cower in fear. Instead, their rage burned even stronger as they brandished their swords and charged forward.

Kaguya looked at the swarm of Marines rushing toward their deaths and sneered, "Anyone with even a bit of intelligence would realize the gap between us. Truly, ignorance is bliss. Since you're so eager to die for your so-called justice, I'll grant your wish—die!"

The moment her words fell, Kaguya twisted her wrist, and her long sword slashed through the air, transforming into a devastating storm of blade energy. Like a towering tsunami, it surged toward the Marines, engulfing everything in its path.

Splurt! Splurt! Splurt!

"Aaaah!"

Blood sprayed wildly, flesh was torn apart.

Amidst the shrill screams, the Marines' bodies were shredded like tofu by the fierce sword aura. Severed limbs flew through the air, heads were sent soaring, and crimson blood gushed out, staining the frozen battlefield in a sea of red.

Kaguya coldly surveyed the landscape of corpses and said with disdain, "Fools who don't know their own limits."

Just then, a shadow suddenly appeared behind Kaguya, gripping a long blade and charging forward like an arrow loosed from a bow.

It was Vice Admiral Yamakaji.

Yamakaji leaped into the air, using Soru to propel himself at high speed. Raising his sword high, he aimed a deadly strike at the back of Kaguya's head.

"You dare slaughter so many of my subordinates—die!"

Clang!

A piercing clash of metal rang out, and Yamakaji's pupils constricted in shock.
