Chapter 9 - 9] Hosho

Fifth Day of Ryuku in the Shinobi World

Konoha Hospital – Special Auditorium for the Medical Campaign

The vast auditorium was filled with shinobi of all ages, from teenagers to those in their late thirties. Most were stuck at the Genin level, while only a few had chakra signatures strong enough to suggest they were Chūnin.

Seated near the front, a boy with neatly tied hair, wearing a black jacket over a fishnet shirt and gray pants, sat silently with a bored expression—Ryuku.

His foot tapped the ground casually, sending out thin chakra waves beneath the surface as he assessed the shinobi scattered throughout the auditorium.

None of them seem to have enough chakra to be full-fledged Chūnin, only around an average Genin level… Given their age and weak abilities, they should have retired as shinobi.

Well, whatever. At the very least, they don't have the look of hopeless people.

To pass the time, Ryuku continued scanning his surroundings using a technique he had created in his free time—Spiritual Sense.

By releasing thin layers of chakra waves through his feet, he could detect the chakra reserves of those around him.

A sensory technique. Simple, yet highly effective.

After mastering chakra control over the past few days, he had realized something—the finer one's control over chakra, the more sensitive they became to it.

Even with his relatively low chakra reserves, he could extend his Spiritual Sense over a hundred square meters—an impressive feat entirely of his own making.

The three days of free time had proven incredibly fruitful for Ryuku. He had accomplished so much—both physically and mentally—that his very aura seemed to have changed.

Where his past appearance exuded weakness, negativity, and an almost pitiful presence, his new demeanor made him look like a proper shinobi at last.

His noble-like features, paired with his sharp, calculating eyes, set him apart from the rest.

Some cast silent glances his way, but he simply closed his eyes in irritation and waited patiently for the Medical Campaign to begin.

As the hanging clock ticked, the time soon struck 9 o'clock.

A few moments later, the sound of footsteps echoed through the auditorium as several individuals entered, dressed in full-body white medical-nin uniforms, each bearing the kanji "doctor" inscribed on the fabric.

All the windows suddenly closed, and dim lighting filled the room.

At the front stood a man who appeared to hold the highest rank among them. He calmly scanned the participants before speaking.

"Since all 36 participants are present, we will begin the first day of the Medical Campaign immediately. Let me introduce myself—I am Hosho, a high-ranking medical-nin of this hospital, and I will serve as the examiner for the three tests you will undergo during this 90-day program. Those who perform exceptionally well will be recruited into the hospital. Let's hope many of you exceed our expectations and become full-fledged medical-nin by the end of this campaign."

As soon as Hosho finished speaking, the room fell silent. The participants' attention snapped toward the front wall, where a display screen suddenly appeared.

Ryuku remained focused, quickly scanning the content displayed by the projector.

Hosho's voice echoed through the auditorium. "These are the four absolute clauses that we, medical-nin, must obey without question. Created by Lady Tsunade in the past, these clauses serve as the inviolable laws of Konoha's medical-nin. Engrave them into your memory from this very moment."

Though Ryuku was already familiar with them, he still took the time to reinforce them in his mind.

First Clause: No medic-nin shall ever stop medical treatment until the lives of their party members have come to an end.

Second Clause: No medic-nin shall ever stand on the front lines.

Third Clause: No medic-nin shall ever die until they are the last of their platoon.

Fourth Clause: Only those medic-nin who have mastered the Strength of a Hundred Technique of the ninja art Creation Rebirth are permitted to disregard the above-mentioned laws.

These clauses had been established during wartime, so they didn't carry the same weight in the present scenario. However, the participants still understood the deeper meaning behind them.

Time passed as Hosho continued explaining the essential details of becoming a skilled medical-nin and the responsibilities that came with the role.

With only an hour left until the first day of the program concluded, Hosho stepped forward and spoke. His next words made all participants sit up straight, their full attention shifting to the soon-to-be-displayed content on the screen.

"Now then, you have one hour to memorize the Mystical Palm Technique—an essential skill for all medical-nin. As I mentioned earlier, you will undergo three tests throughout this program. Your first test, exactly one month from today, will assess your progress in mastering the Mystical Palm Technique. Points will be awarded based on your performance, so make sure to commit it to memory."

The next instant, the details of the Mystical Palm Technique appeared on the display.

A heavy silence filled the auditorium as all participants, including Ryuku, began carefully studying the Medical Jutsu.

Ryuku continued his deep comprehension, his mind absorbing the technique's applications like a black hole. He became so immersed that he didn't even realize his chakra had already started flowing toward his hand, following the instructions instinctively.

Hosho stood silently away from the display, his sharp gaze scanning the participants as they focused on committing the technique to memory.

He knew the Mystical Palm Technique wasn't easy to grasp. Its intricacies far exceeded those of Ninjutsu and Genjutsu, making it a mental challenge even for experienced shinobi. He still remembered his own struggles—ten days to memorize it and another fifteen to truly understand its principles. For newcomers, it was an overwhelming, mind-wrecking process.

They need above-average chakra control to make it work in the end. Most of them will fail the first test… even fewer will make it past the second. Only the truly worthy will become medical-nin.

As he continued assessing this batch of participants, his gaze landed on a particular individual.

Then, he froze.

His eyes locked onto a single right hand, faintly glowing with a green aura—something that shouldn't have been possible at this stage.

Huh?
