Being an adventurer, you could do a lot of quests. These missions included a variety of tasks, from guarding to acquiring specific items. They could also explore an unhabituated region while hunting down mana beasts or the main attraction of almost all people of this town
''Dungeon Exploration''
Crossing through the teleportation gate, my senses jolted from the scenery. The City of Dreake had many teleportation gates among the cities since they were the only way one which were the closest to the place where the ancient dungeon resides. The one we crossed led us directly to the front entrance of the area known as the ''THE KILLING LABYRINTH''. This dungeon was one of the 4 ancient dungeons on the continent.
The dungeon contained 77 floors according to what was found out by the scriptures on the walls on the lower floors. Only 61 floors were explored in this dungeon yet and even that was with the help of S-Class adventurers which were a team of a 7-circle magician who was a force to be reckoned with. It was assumed that the dungeon even hosted a 9-class being on the last floor.
The dungeon passes were used as permission to explore and also to keep a record of all the people entering the dungeons in case they went missing or needed reinforcement during life-and-death situations. It was also to stop the unregulated & unrecorded flow of resources adventurers gained from these dungeons.
The dungeon in Nexus was almost like a living entity. Like all the elements and mana of the world, It was also considered a living being. It was also considered a test from the world and it gave gifts too when people cleared its floors. From giving the adventurer a place full of pure mana according to his affinity to bestowing personal artefacts. It was said to be a test and a gift from god and was rumoured that whoever subdues all the dungeon of the world will be crowned as a new god.
However, those were all rumours as if that were true, why didn't the Guardians or the empires send their forces to conquer it all the time? Although there were quite a bit of people from the empire travelling to the dungeon, it still felt like a lie to me. It felt like someone was withholding a lot of information about the truth.
Looking around and seeing the number of people entering the dungeon alone left me gobsmacked.
Even though I expected a lot of people to go to the dungeon every day, It was still an unbelievable number. In front of me was a mirror which was hundreds of meters tall with some runes on it. Every person just walked into the mirror and disappeared into it. Although I knew about the rules of the dungeon from studying at the guild, to see such a phenomenon was truly unimaginable.
Even if many people enter the dungeon the sheer size and complexity of the inside made it near impossible for people to collide inside the dungeon which helped in case of conflicts as it was a lawless area, it was also dangerous for newbie adventurers like me. After observing for a few more minutes, I walked towards the dungeon but not before taking out my dungeon pass and giving it to the officials of the military and the guild to confirm it.
The dungeons in Empire were monitored by both the adventurer association & the military platoons stationed close to these dungeons in case of any emergency occurred.
After talking with the officials and making sure everything was right, I headed towards the dungeon. I was wearing a turtleneck black T-shirt with a black jacket and some trousers and boots along with carrying a little ring on my finger which was a space ring, an artefact.
A spatial ring is a handy tool of the world that could store any item, material, food, water, practically anything! It can be considered a fundamental asset to an adventurer because it helps carry things with you.
Although the space in the ring I was carrying was pitifully low only allowing a few sets of clothes with basic amenities like knives, water, food, tent, It was still extremely useful and although it took most of my money, It had to be done. I cannot carry a bag to a dungeon, it wouldn't have worked.
Walking towards the glass-like structure, I entered it. It was a weird feeling when I passed through it. like someone was assessing me or watching me. Ignoring my little anxiety I looked around the place only to find nothing as it seemed like a normal cave with little mana crystals on the side of the ground lighting up the place a little. I immediately noticed the radar and it showed three mana signatures near me which didn't look like they belonged to a human.
I've seen countless human mana signatures and I could bet that they were not it. My heart was palpating like crazy. I knew I could beat them easily but that was not the thing worrying me. The thing worrying me was that I knew I'd have to kill something. I did kill a few rats and all but it was different when it was a mana beast.
I calmed my mind and let my mana cover me. The surrounding was a little crampy so I knew I should not do something extravagant here with my spells to not be buried under the pile of rocks. Walking towards the mana signature, I noticed them. A red ant monster with four legs and two arms. It has a hard shell and has high attack and uses pheromones to attract companions in a pinch. I remember reading about it in the guild. It was also crowned as a Newbie killer due to them killing a lot of new adventurers. They were extremely feared due to their concealment but the radar saved me from that.
Making up my mind I fired three beams towards their eyes which was their weak point and they immediately died.
'Eh? That was it?'
' It was a little overwhelming ' Looking at their fried-up brains which was a nasty sight I expected myself to throw up or do shenanigans earlier but honestly, I don't feel much. All I could think was that they were weak. If they were stronger, I'd be the one to die.
Like the duel with Noel. She had complete control of my life. She could've killed me there and I wouldn't be able to do anything. I once again remembered my helplessness and looking at the corpses near me I sighed.
'That's right. The weak die. Every being on this planet is given mana and the chance to evolve and become powerful. I suddenly felt repulsion from being weak. A disgusting feeling came onto me as I realized how weak I truly was. I don't know why I suddenly felt that way but I do know one thing.
'I need power. I don't want to be at someone else mercy or anyone could kill me waving their hand as I killed them'
