The two months of Augustus' training journey were coming to an end.
In the past two months, his life was mostly peaceful with him learning everything he could like a sponge. He knew he'd have to delve into the dungeons to make up for his inexperience soon so he tried to gather all the knowledge he could.
From going on a simple quest every morning like collecting a herb or killing some rats to taking up whatever classes he could afford, Augustus tried his hardest not to slack off in the least.
Every morning, he'd go to the guild to take up a quest that was the least time-consuming and after completing it, he'd take up the basic lectures which were almost mandatory for a weak adventurer like him. From normal first-aid and surviving in the wild to disarming the traps found in the dungeons.
It was not very helpful for magic but it was crucial for someone like him to not just die on the first day of the exploring by tripping on a wire or by a poison arrow. Also, not all floors have traps, mostly traps are found in low-tier floors which didn't have any build of a community of monsters or a particular environment. It was taught to him that on the lower floor of the labyrinth, Most monsters live in a structural community with a leader commanding them.
After finishing his last lecture of the day, he went out on the streets which were illuminated with mana stones acting like lights in the night.
Arriving at the Inn, he directly went to his room to take a bath but not before asking Arie to make him dinner. Laying in his bath, he thought about the little time he spent here. Although he hasn't made very big progress, it was still noticeable and he was indeed happy with it. He knew he cannot make haste in forming his second circle anyway.
He also took basic combat classes which trained him to fight against a monster as well as humans if he was ever low on mana. After sitting peacefully in the bath and melting all his weariness, he went to the first floor of the inn for his dinner.
''How are you holding up, Gus? Enjoying the adventuring life'' Teased Ava who enjoyed teasing Augustus like always.
Girl, you are calling my name too familiarly. Don't you think so? Augustus inwardly asked himself.
''You're enjoying this aren't you'' Augustus said.
''Nope,'' She said with a mischievous smile on her face.
After chatting with Ava for a few more minutes, Augustus went back to his room only to continue his daily meditation and practice his magic. Ever since the day he came to the city, he never took a single break when it comes to his magic. He still loved it no matter how tired he was.
After finally practising it for two months, he finally created something he desperately wanted.
After sparring with Noel, he knew that although the telekinetic beam he can fire is strong and indeed very fast, it was still not enough for him. After experimenting and trying for two whole months, he finally completed his aim, to make a homing beam.
To target one's mana and fire it so that even if they dodge it, it will still follow it no matter what essentially forcing them to either take the hit or defend them which would chirp away their mana. It might sound a little underwhelming but in a fight between two mages, the expenditure of mana plays a vital role. Even without mana, mages could fight but that's it. They will not be able to win and would even lose in 95 per cent of cases.
His telekinetic force would have to make contact with someone's mana either with their spell or directly touching them and it will lock the feeling of their mana as everyone in this world carries a different mana scent.
'Finally, some of the work pays off, huh' Gus was indeed very happy with his advancement.
In the few months, he spent in this town he saw many first-circle and second-circle mages and was quite disappointed to find out that most of them treated magic as granted. They always tried to copy their moves from some powerful mages or make third-rated copycat skills.
He saw many duels in the guild which usually happened on the third floor of the guild which was accessible to every member who either wanted to duel someone or who just wants to watch it. After seeing their fighting pattern which was even worse than his, who had no fighting experience, he was flabbergasted. Especially when he saw a mage shouting something along the lines of ''Heaven piercing strike'' and attacking with a slightly larger earth arrow.
Chills ran down Augustus' spine as he remembered the way they'd shout their spell names.
''Ugh, how dumb they can be, although most of them were slightly new adventurers ' He thought.
After thinking for a while, he decided to go to sleep a little early as from tomorrow he'd go to his first dungeon and start hunting for real.
Closing his eyes, he went to sleep while dreaming about his future.
