Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: If You’re Going to Steal, Steal It Boldly

Brant had barely closed his eyes when he took a deep breath and drifted into a deep, peaceful sleep.

Zhang Yang had spent 2,000 points in the system shop to exchange for a Sleep Powder Mist—and clearly, it worked like a charm.

He glanced at the phone on the table, saw the livestream still rolling, and chuckled lightly.

"Sleep well. I'll take it from here."

Zhang Yang set the phone down and casually walked out of the British Museum.

The museum was still closed to the public, and the security team had just rotated shifts.

At the moment, there were only around 80 guards stationed inside.

Zhang Yang got back into his car and headed for Brant's residence.

Meanwhile, the number of viewers in the livestream was climbing rapidly. Within just over an hour, it had passed 100,000 and was closing in on 200,000.

[Where the hell is Kaitō Kid? It's been forever—did he chicken out?]

[No! He has to show up! He's my idol!]

[They've been circling the house so much, I'm getting dizzy just watching!]

[What does Brant even have that Kaitō Kid would want?]

[Does the item even matter? Kaitō Kid's real goal is stealing Brant!]

Roughly ten minutes later, Zhang Yang's car pulled up to Brant's house.

He stepped out, greeted by the two squad captains stationed at the front.

"Good evening, sir!"

At this moment, Zhang Yang had already fully disguised himself as Brant—from head to toe, not a single detail out of place.

He gave them a glance and walked inside confidently.

As he passed through the gate, he noted the other two security guards stationed at the garage.

Brant's home wasn't cluttered. Anyone entering would be noticed immediately.

Which was exactly why Zhang Yang had accounted for it in his plan.

And clearly—his plan was working.

He pushed open the door and stepped inside.

Tyce and Carson, who had been standing alert on the first floor, quickly turned around.

"Director!"

Seeing "Brant," their tense nerves instantly relaxed.

[Why is Brant only just getting home? Doesn't he care Kaitō Kid might strike?]

[He's always the one provoking Kaitō Kid, then dumps the job on Tyce. What a joke!]

[Hahaha, the old Brit's not going to chase thieves himself, is he?]

[Kaitō Kid still hasn't shown up. What's he even waiting for?]

What neither Tyce, Carson, nor the 200,000 people watching knew…

Was that the man in front of them wasn't Brant at all—it was Zhang Yang, fully disguised.

The real Brant was still snoring soundly in his office at the museum.

Zhang Yang glanced at Tyce and asked casually, acting the part.

"Kaitō Kid still hasn't shown up?"

Tyce shook his head. "No sign yet."

Zhang Yang moved on to the next phase of his plan—locating Brant's safe.

A night-luminescent pearl worth hundreds of millions would definitely be stored somewhere secure.

And now that he had Brant's face, he had free access to any room in the house. There was no need to hide anything.

He began his search, opening doors and checking rooms one by one.

Tyce didn't question it at all. After all, Brant was famously paranoid and distrusting.

It made perfect sense for him to personally inspect the house, room by room.

[Huh! The old Brit's actually being pretty cautious!]

[It's just one house. With Tyce's crew guarding it, Kaitō Kid's definitely chickening out.]

[Not just Tyce—Carson and Jayhan are here too. Kaitō Kid's got no chance tonight.]

[Lol, you foreigners are way too confident.]

[Don't talk big too soon. If Kaitō Kid does show up, you'll be eating your words!]

Zhang Yang quickly located Brant's bedroom.

With something that valuable, there was no doubt it would be kept close.

Tyce was still trailing behind him, so Zhang Yang decided to send him away.

"Go downstairs and keep watch."

"Downstairs? But… understood. I'll head down now."

Tyce hesitated for a moment, then nodded as if he understood something unspoken.

Clearly, he thought Brant had private matters he didn't want anyone to see.

Of course, that was just his own assumption—since the man he was talking to wasn't Brant at all, but Zhang Yang in disguise.

[Oh ho, looks like the old Brit's hiding something!]

[If Kaitō Kid doesn't show up tonight, Brant might just cuddle that treasure to sleep!]

[I bet Brant can't sleep at all—he's probably raging inside!]

[Poor guy. I bet he's in a really bad mood right now.]

[Oh Lord, when is our handsome Kaitō Kid going to show himself!]

Once Tyce left, Zhang Yang shut the door behind him.

He crouched and checked under the bed first, but the floorboards beneath were dusty and undisturbed—nothing hidden there.

Next, he stood up and opened the wardrobe.

There it was—a safe embedded in the back wall.

Zhang Yang smirked. "Found it."

[Ding!]

[Limited-time Skill Unlocked: Master Lockpicking!]

One of Kaitō Kid's signature skills—capable of cracking any lock with ease.

A safe like this was child's play.

[Ding!]

[Please rotate the mechanical dial to unlock the safe.]

Following the system's instructions, Zhang Yang rotated the dial.

After one full rotation, the system chimed again.

[Ding!]

[Password: 364785]

Zhang Yang entered the code.

"Click."

The safe door popped open.

Inside, on the bottom layer, were stacks of cash and a black box.

Zhang Yang didn't even glance at the money.

He pulled out the black box.

"A night-luminescent pearl worth hundreds of millions... now that's beautiful."

He couldn't help but admire it.

The black box was lined with velvet. Nestled inside was a perfectly round pearl, about three centimeters in diameter, glowing faintly blue under the light.

In complete darkness, it would shine even brighter.

Clack.

Zhang Yang closed the box and stashed it into the magic space with a flick of his hand.

Then he noticed a folder in the top section of the safe.

"Registration Records for Blue Planet Museum Artifact"

Zhang Yang flipped it open and found a few photos—showing the exact same night-luminescent pearl he'd just taken.

So, it had a name: Blue Planet. It was originally intended to be catalogued into the British Museum's collection.

But Brant had manipulated the process, withheld the paperwork, and kept the Blue Planet for himself.

Without the documents, the museum had no record of the pearl—officially, it didn't exist.

"Interesting."

Zhang Yang slipped the folder into his magic space as well, then quietly closed the safe.

Downstairs, Tyce and Carson were still faithfully guarding their positions.

Jayhan stood near the stairwell, alert to any movements from above.

Zhang Yang walked out of the bedroom. As he passed Jayhan, he clapped him lightly on the shoulder.

"Appreciate the work."

"It's nothing, sir. Don't worry—we'll catch Kaitō Kid tonight for sure!"

Jayhan was a little moved by the praise.

Zhang Yang descended the stairs and spoke in Brant's stern voice.

"Tyce, stay sharp. Don't let your guard down for a second."

"Catch Kaitō Kid, and I'll triple your salary."

With that, he pushed the front door open and walked out.

[What's Brant up to now? Where's he going?]

[No wonder Tyce listens so well—he's getting three times the pay!]

[Ugh, disappointing. Looks like Kaitō Kid might not show up tonight after all.]

[If Brant's offering triple pay, what Kaitō Kid's after must be really important.]
