I walked back to my car, the sky had already gone dark, but the light from around the city made it look like a light party, it made me think back to the people on the tabloids, how carefree and happy they looked, their faces glistering as they smiled at the paparazzi. How easy life would be if I had that type of wealth, I could pay off my mother's hospital bill's and take her away on a vacation ,just the two of us.
I looked up to the sky, for a moment standing completely still, I couldn't help but think of a better life for me and the one's I loved, but that was impossible with our situation. I looked back down wiping away the tears streaming down my cheeks as I slid into my car making my way back home.
THE NEXT DAY...
BANG!!BANG!!BANG!!
I could hear the loud bangs on my front door, jolting me awake from my sweet sleep, looking at the digital clock on my dresser , made the sleep clear up completely from my eyes, the time on the clock seeming wrong.
10:00!! WHAT!! I couldn't remember the last time I slept in this late and I still wanted to sleep more, I must really need the rest.
BANG!!BANG!!
I quickly stood up from my bed as I slid into my slippers and my robe, making my way downstairs.
"I'm coming", I shouted ,racing to the door. By the sound of it I could tell that whoever was at the door had grown tired of knocking. But who could it be by this time of the day?? "I glanced through the peep hole seeing who it was, quickly brought a smile to my face. "Regina?"
I opened the door for my cousin ,the look on her face silently screaming at me for not opening the door earlier, and in a split second her hands were tightly rapped around me, giving me a bear hug. I smiled hugging her back.
Regina always liked to act like she didn't care, but she cared a lot, even though she never said it. Anyone could see she cared far more than she let on. "I missed you" She said, a tone almost like a whisper. "I missed you too Regi" I said.
"My mom informed me that you got back the day before yesterday, but you went straight to the hospital, I guess you already heard the news. I'm sorry about your mom ,Emily." Regina said, as she held my hand tightly trying to comfort me. "How are you holding up" She asked.
" I didn't know how to reply or what to say. "I'm fine" I lied, but Regina could see right through me, she knew I was struggling with the news of my mom, she knew it was hard for me to talk about, so she just held my hand as she gave me a tight lipped smile.
"By the looks of it, I guess I woke you up, from your beauty sleep." Regina said glancing at my appearance as she chuckled.
"Is it that obvious, I said with a small laugh. she smiled, "go wash up, I'd make you breakfast and we can catch up while your at it". she said.
I smiled, "thanks Regi, I said slipping out of the sitting room, back upstairs and into the bathroom. It didn't take me more than Fifteen minutes to shower, put some clothes on and make my way back down stairs. The smell of scrambles eggs and fresh toast filled the air, I smiled as Regina came into view.
It was rare to see her in the kitchen, she was the lazy type, always avoiding work and the kitchen, but seeing her in the kitchen brought a smile to my face, She didn't like it but here she was seriously trying to make me breakfast. "How cute.
I noticed she looked up at me as I made my way down the stairs, noticing the big smile on my face made her laugh.
"Wipe that stupid smile of your face, she said turning around so I wouldn't see her smile, but it only made the smile on my face increase, this is the only time you get to eat my special cooking and this special treatment, don't expect to get this again. she said with with a serious look trying to mask the playful grin on her face.
"Yes ma'am I said , taking my hands in the air as I made my way to the kitchen counter, sitting down with the breakfast plate laid out in front of me, she turned to fill my plate up, trying her best not to smile." Well ,you can stop starring at me now and start eating she said gesturing to the food on the plate.
I picked up the fork taking a big bite of the eggs and damn ,was it good, I thought. Regina pulled out a glass from the cabinet and the jug of orange juice in the fridge. I liked orange juice it was my favorite. I ate in silence my only entertainment been Regina as she poured me a glass of juice.
"So.....how have you been??," she finally spoke up, I knew she was worried about me and wanted to know how I was doing , but she couldn't find a way to ask." Tell me everything, how was your time in Paris, how was your school life there, did you meet anyone interesting, she asked waiting for my answers.
"I guess you could say it was nice, I graduated with the highest honor in my class, and was the best student too and it was a nice experience , I learnt a lot and met a lot of interesting people too." I said.
"Of course you were the best student, everywhere you go, you are the best, no one can compare to my cousin." Regina said with a light smugness to her tone, being around her always put's a smile on her face.
"So what do you plan to do now, you know..... since your back, you wanna get a job or....something!! Regina asked.
"You know..... I was actually thinking of applying for a job at Saphara. " I said, the room immediately going silent, I wasn't looking at Regina but I could tell the expression she had on her face.
I looked up, taking a look at her, and there it was her mouth hanging open, she was shocked, anyone would be. Saphara was one of the biggest fashion company's in the world and they only took in the best of the best. Maybe it was too much of a dream thinking I could get in.
"You know what, You should go for it". Regina finally spoke up, you graduated from the top school of fashion in Paris, they would be begging to take you. She said with the most encouraging smile on her face.
"I Knew it was a long shot but, it was better to try than not try at all."
