"Okay, this one's wiggling!" Thorfinn announced, crouched beside a large, shiny red egg.
Naofumi stood a few feet away, arms crossed, clearly stressed. "You're supposed to let them hatch naturally. Not shake them like a soda can."
"I'm helping them level up early!" Thorfinn declared with a grin. "Like throwing a baby into battle in Pokémon!"
Before Naofumi could explain why that was insane, the egg cracked open with a satisfying CRUNCH-KRAKABOOM sound effect.
From the steaming shell emerged a baby basilisk, glaring around with slitted eyes and an aura that screamed "bite first, slither later."
Thorfinn's grin widened. "I shall name you… Snakethulhu."
[Elsewhere Nearby…]
The twin griffins, Birb and Chadsky, screeched and flapped excitedly as the rest of the eggs started shaking. One hatched into a glowing baby dragon that sneezed a tiny fireball. Another burst open to reveal a chubby, fluffy Filolial chick that instantly tripped over its own wings.
Thorfinn gasped. "This is better than any gacha roll I've ever done."
Naofumi facepalmed. "We're going to be bankrupt just feeding all of them."
Takimaru, silent as always, stood nearby with a large sack of monster feed and the expression of a babysitter who hadn't slept in days.
[Leveling Arc: Chaos Beast Edition]
Over the next few days, Thorfinn and Naofumi hit the wilds hard. They didn't grind — they over-grinded. Thorfinn referred to it as:
"The Monster Massacre Tour 2025: Sponsored by Gamer Rage & Bloodlust"
Low-level monsters were defeated left and right, their loot gathered, their EXP absorbed, and their bodies used as fertilizer by some local eco-villager they accidentally helped.
Naofumi: "This is excessive…"
Thorfinn: "Excessive is my middle name! Actually, it's Thorfinn 'Too Much' Von Dracool."
In the chaos, Thorfinn also discovered new vampire powers:
Night Vision Toggle (which he accidentally triggered during the day and walked into three trees),
Hypnosis Gaze (which failed because he used it on Naofumi, who is built different),
And a terrifying power called Blood Inheritance, which he triggered when he bit a bandit that tried to ambush them.
"Wait wait wait—" Thorfinn said, mid-battle, biting the guy's neck like it was pizza crust. "He knows a spin kick combo?"
A blue window popped up:

"...I CAN STEAL SKILLS THROUGH BLOOD!? BROOOOOOOO!"
[Back in Town – The Magic Shop Returns]
Thorfinn slammed into the magic shop like he owned the place.
"Teach me how to Kamehameha, Gandalf!"
The old lady blinked slowly. "...You are back."
"And I brought my study face!" Thorfinn grinned, fangs glinting.
Naofumi walked in behind him, apologizing for Thorfinn's existence as usual.
The magic shopkeeper sighed and handed over beginner magic books. "Here. These are elemental chants. Focus. Concentrate. Meditate."
Thorfinn opened the book upside-down. "This is gonna be so lit."
[Spell Testing Ground – aka, The Alley]
Thorfinn stood like a kung fu master, chanting the fire spell from the book.
"Let the embers of my soul ignite the fury of the cosmos! FLAMMIS INVOCATUS!!"
A puff of smoke erupted.
"...Did I just fart fire?"
Naofumi groaned.
They kept practicing. Thorfinn managed:
One slightly controlled fireball (which hit Takimaru, who didn't even flinch),
One misfire that set his cloak sleeve on fire,
And one spell that accidentally summoned three chickens instead of thunder.
"I think I unlocked farm magic," Thorfinn muttered, chasing a chicken.
[Final Scene – Back at the Inn]
All the monsters were asleep, curled together in a monster cuddle pile. Thorfinn sat on the window ledge, looking at the stars.
"I never thought I'd get isekai'd, become a vampire, ride a griffin, summon chickens with magic, and raise a party of chaos monsters. Life is wild."
Naofumi, nearby: "You could try being normal for five minutes."
Thorfinn looked directly at you, the reader.
"Normal is for side characters."
