Chapter 3 Discovery of the First Mod
Fang Bie continued walking forward along the Grassland. Every time he reached a spot, he overturned all the grassland there. His fist possessed the strange rules of this World, able to easily smash all the grass on the grassland.
Smashing a few patches of grass had a chance to generate a Wheat Seed. This was Fang Bie's main purpose.
He still didn't know if the creatures of this World would respawn, nor did he know how long he would stay here. Seeking Food was ultimately not a long-term solution. He wanted to settle down in this area, so he needed a stable Food source.
According to MC's rules, when you break grass, there's a chance to drop Wheat Seeds. This action, which ordinary Players are even unwilling to do much of, could just save his future stomach.
Fang Bie very much cherished those seeds in his hand. If it was like the usual Game, and Wheat could grow in two or three days, that would be fine. If it was like ordinary Wheat, then he would need a lot of Wheat Seeds.
Fang Bie was hitting the tall and short grass in front of him intermittently. What was somewhat different from the Game was that he wasn't tall enough to see over the grass. So he had to clear all this grass, at least clear out a path wide enough for normal passage.
In the absence of other Players, this grass wouldn't naturally regenerate. Fang Bie even considered bringing an Iron Pickaxe to shovel out a grassland-like path here.
But then he remembered the issue of Versions, and couldn't help but feel a bit annoyed. This Game had multiple Versions, and the Monsters, survival levels, and situations of each Version were different.
He quite missed the warmth of the low Versions, and also missed the various Characters and Monsters of the high Versions. But now he hoped it was a more primitive Version, so that the Monsters he faced would at least not be too complex.
"I seem to remember the Version where you can use a Shovel to shovel out a path is 1.12, but I don't know if I'm misremembering…" Fang Bie muttered to himself, slowly walking towards a Pond.
This kind of Pond that appears in the Grassland is very common in the Game. He wasn't surprised to see this, and instead took out a Shovel from his Backpack with interest, and started digging the Sand beside it.
For the Wooden House he made yesterday, he deliberately left a few high holes, just to wait until he could dig some Sand to make Windows. This way he wouldn't need to light Torches for lighting even in the Daytime.
Digging and digging, Fang Bie suddenly found himself obscured by a sparse shadow. Looking up, he saw two clumps of Sugarcane standing in front of him.
He wasn't polite at all, took out a Wooden Axe from his Backpack and swung it twice. Compared to yesterday's tree-chopping that was like child's play, this Sugarcane actually gave him something like the feeling of chopping a Tree.
But it didn't take long; soon these two clumps of Sugarcane turned into a pile of Sugarcane blocks scattered on the ground before him.
Fang Bie tried taking out a Sugarcane, slightly peeled off the skin, and tentatively took a bite.
"Hmm!" Fang Bie's brow relaxed. Although in the Game, Sugarcane couldn't be eaten, it could only be used to make paper or Sugar.
But although this place was very much like a Game, it could also be considered a real World. Since this Sugarcane could make Sugar, it must have enough sugar content, and it was quite tasty.
He glanced at the Sugarcane in his Backpack. This thing could only grow on Soil, and had to be planted on Soil near Water. These two clumps of Sugarcane were fully six Blocks, and each Block had four or five small pieces like the Sugarcane in his hand.
"I should put two rows of Water in front of my Home, and plant a row of Sugarcane. That way, at least Fruit won't be lacking!" Fang Bie pondered this, and then gave up the idea of digging more Sand. He didn't need too much Sand now; being able to make two pieces of glass would be good enough.
He planned to return the way he came. It would be best if he could find some Stone and exposed Coal along the way, so he wouldn't need to specifically find a Mine.
As for Water, Fang Bie hadn't yet tried using anything other than an Iron Bucket to hold Water, and didn't know if this World had any fixed rules regarding Water.
He walked back listlessly, cleared another path for passage, and obtained many Seeds along the way.
The Sugarcane earlier had given him enough energy. After going back, as long as he mined some Stone, he would be able to roast the few pieces of Mutton he'd obtained earlier.
Another difference from the Game was apparent again. So the Mutton in the Game was only palm-sized, but the Mutton from these Sheep he obtained was fully half his height. Although each Sheep only yielded two pieces of Mutton, and each piece of Mutton wasn't particularly thick, it was definitely enough for him to eat for a long time.
Fang Bie was thinking about this while tapping the Grassland beside him. Due to the rules, the Flora and Seeds that dropped would be directly absorbed into his Item Inventory.
"Crack!" Fang Bie listened to the pleasant sound of grass being struck. The corner of his eye caught a glimpse of red, also the shape of a Wheat Seed, which made him suddenly turn his head.
"This is…" He hurriedly opened his Item Inventory. That red Seed unexpectedly appeared in the Item Inventory. Then, as he focused his mind on that column, a line of text floated out from above.
"Tomato Seed"
"Oh yeah!" Fang Bie was overjoyed. This meant that his World was at least not just the basic MC. This one Seed indicated that his World had at least loaded a Food Mod. He would no longer be limited to those few monotonous Foods, but would have access to very complex and numerous Foods, and some common household appliances. This was the most important thing for him!
He carefully grasped that Seed in his hand, stroking some of the patterns on it. Although this was just a very ordinary Food Mod, for him, it was of extraordinary significance.
Fang Bie immediately perked up, no longer in the state of contemplation he'd been in before. He excitedly started quickly striking the Grassland. And because of this, the little Grasses that had been swaying in the wind suffered as a result.
He'd originally just wanted to casually create a path for passage, and maybe get some Wheat Seeds along the way. But now, as if injected with chicken blood, he overturned all the Flora in sight, wanting to see if there were any other plants.
Sure enough, as he expected, Fang Bie quickly found another green Seed in another patch of Grassland. This Seed was dark green, and labeled "Corn Seed".
Fang Bie immediately confirmed his judgment, but unexpectedly, a sudden wave of pain came from behind!
"Clang!" He quickly lay down and immediately placed two Wooden Planks behind him for Cover. And the Red Hearts on his status bar displaying his Health Points instantly decreased by three.
He was attacked!
