Chapter 2 - She's Gone? {Kaylah's POV}

Once I was in my room, I locked the door, then sat on my purple blanket on my bed. I was thinking of the things I love most in my room. Hmm, maybe the light green walls? No. My queen-sized bed? No, that's not it either. My big walk-in closet? Maybe, but that's still not it. I got it! My beautiful cedar wood desk that mom and dad got me! That's it!

The thought of Mom and Dad made me cry, on top of replaying the day's scenes in my head again, What an odd day! I did end up crying, and over the next few hours, I heard faint knocking sounds every thirty to forty minutes.

After what had seemed to be about four hours in my room, I heard a loud crash from my window. I, of course, got up immediately to see what happened. I saw glass everywhere! It was such a mess!

Then I saw a brick, out of nowhere. It had a piece of paper tied to it. I picked it up, untied the paper, and looked at what it said. "Meet me outside of my house. Midnight tonight. -Gavin." I debated telling Satori, when I heard his voice.

"Kaylah! I heard a crash. Open the door! Remember what mom said! She said that I have to take care of you since mom and dad are in New York for three weeks!" I hurried and quickly hid the note in the first place I had thought of. Then I quickly rushed to the door and unlocked and opened it, just to see Satori, holding our dad's shotgun.

"Satori! Put that down now!" I basically had scolded him then. Satori walked across my room, surveying what had happened, then set the shotgun on the edge of my desk. He turned to me, and looked at my arm, then walked forward quickly,

"Oh, Kaylah, you have a shard of glass in your arm. Please let me help." Satori said sweetly. I didn't want him near me, at least not right now.

"No." I told him, holding up my hand in front of me, blocking him. I was clearly not asking him, I was ordering him to stop, and he did stop, pausing where he was. I put my hand down and I slowly pulled the glass from my arm, once it was out, it looked like any other scratch.

Satori walked over and sat on my bed. "I'm sorry for being so harsh, I just hate Gavin! I'm just scared that something will happen to you." As the cold air rushed in through the broken window, I began to shudder.

Satori immediately got up, ran to his own bedroom, grabbed a blanket, and handed it to me. He hugged me, and I hugged him back. "Want to watch a movie?" He asked me.

"What about the window?" I asked, turning towards the broken glass everywhere.

"We'll worry about that later, but for now, do you want to watch a movie? Get something to eat?" I nodded my head in response.

We went to the living room, it was quite lovely really, we had two couches, they were nice black leather, and they were very comfortable. We had a glass table on the side of one couch, and a cedar wood table on the other couch.

Across the couches was our big TV, and next to the TV was a rack that we kept all our movie disks on. "Here." Satori said as he walked to the rack of movie disks and grabbed The Princess Bride. He asked me something as I sat down on the right side couch. I was thinking about how the day had turned out, and why Gavin would break my window just to tell me something.

"Hm? Oh sorry. What did you say?" I asked, I had no idea what he just asked me. I saw the movie he held up, I nodded my head in agreement, "Sure, I don't see why not."

Satori put the disk into the DVD player, and he tried to turn on the TV. "Hm. That's odd…" He had said as he shook his head. I could tell what happened, the TV wouldn't turn on.

"There must be a storm or something." I grabbed my phone out of my pocket and checked the weather, "No. No storm," I thought for a while, then continued. "We could go outside." I, however, had no desire to go outside. It was much too cold. I figured that out when my window broke and cold air had come in.

So I guess I wasn't making a suggestion. It was more of a question, or comment, or maybe just the first thing that came to my mind at the moment. Satori, however, had a different preference than me. "Oh yeah! We could, let's go." U

gh, how annoying could he possibly get? I still followed him, blanket still wrapped around me, the second I walked outside, I knew that it had to have been below freezing. "This coldness is insane, was it supposed to be this cold today?" Satori asked me as he warmed his hands.

I took out my phone and checked the weather. "Nope, it was only supposed to get to 52degrees fahrenheit as a low or something." I didn't want to be out here anymore, then I saw it. "What's this?" I had asked as I bent down and picked up the small brick next to the coffee table with a note taped on it.

I regretted saying anything, it could have been something from Gavin to me. Satori heard me though, and he was clearly interested in it, so he walked forward. "Kaylah… Would you pick that paper up and be willing to read that aloud?" He asked me as he walked forward more, clearly curious.

My heart was pounding, what if it was another note from Gavin to me? And Satori heard it! What would he say? What would I do? I slowly bent down more and grabbed the note and slowly opened the note and stood. I sighed in relief at what it said.

"It says…. 'Back off and leave me and Kaylah alone, jerk. -Gavin.' I set the paper on the table. I turned to face Satori, but he only laughed.

"That was pretty straightforward, do you think?" Satori looked at me, I assumed he wanted an answer.

I gave him a look, and responded. "I'm kind of hungry, I'm going to order some pizza."

Satori shook his head. "No, I'll buy it, you've had quite the day already."

I shrugged. "Alright, well I'm going inside. It's pretty cold out here, don't you think?" Satori nodded and I quickly went inside before Satori could say anything and before I changed my mind.

I ran upstairs quickly, I didn't know what to do. On one hand, I could decide to meet outside at midnight with Gavin like he told me to, or I could just stay in with Satori. However, it's Gavin, what would he do? He wouldn't hurt me, right? No, of course he wouldn't!

On the other hand, Satori has done nothing wrong, all he did was look out for me and be a supportive brother and friend, so why am I even going against him in the first place?

Or I could just run away and join some circus, that was always an option. Then I would never see either of them again, which could be a good and bad thing. Again, on one hand, I wouldn't see them again, no drama. Right? On the other hand, I might miss them. Right?
