Part 1
>Destorted Voice<
"Why can't you do better?"
"I'm doing everything I can to make sure we have a roof over our heads!"
"Its your fault we are in this situation!"
"If only you were never BORN!"
"Why can't you be perfect like your little brother?"
"What a waste of my money. Id rather feed the homeless"
"Whyd you have to look like your father."
"Nine months for what?"
"Get up you're so pathetic."
"Love isn't real anyways so shut the hell up and go away."
"You're just an unlovable monster."
>Samu's Pov<
I open my eyes and sit up rubbing my head as I curse my mother.
"Cant stand that woman..." I muttered to myself.
"Samu?!"
Suddenly I was being embraced and remembered that past life is gone. Mother was clinging to me yelling for my father who soon ran into the room and embraced me.
"Its good to have you back son!"
(Eh? Why are they being so kind? What kind of weirdo shows me kindness?)
"Son?" Both of my parents whisper to me.
"I'm fine. Is everyone in the village ok?"
"We only lost two people thanks to your efforts. You did a great job protecting Mr.Elowyns child."
"So then they survived?"
"Yes. Not a scratch on them."
I sighed knowing I at least accomplished something. I was recalling the events as I tried to reflect on what I could have done better when father interrupted my thoughts.
"You did great son. You managed to kill four goblins and save a child while only three years old. That's an amazing achievement. You should be proud instead of sulking." Without thinking I simply respond.
"No. If I was smarter or stronger I never would have been hurt to begin with. If I trained more or was more diligent-"
"You're wrong! Thinking like that will only drive you crazy!" Mom said as she scolded me. Its best if I don't argue.
"OK mom I'll try."
She seemed to sigh and drop the subject.
I continued to practice my magic and training every day for the next half a year. My magic felt like I hit a wall in growth which sucks. My physical training with father is going well though. I can feel myself getting stronger and faster. It'll compensate for my sudden lack of magical improvement.
Then one day while I was enjoying breakfast alone a knock could be heard at the door. I climb down from my chair and run over to answer the door. Standing there was a young girl who looked to be maybe 12 years old. She had long blue hair that went down her back. The color was a soothing caribbean blue pairing well with her deeper blue eyes. Her staffs design was black wood that spiraled up to a point where a red gem rested on its peak. Her clothes were a dim white color with a few layers to its design topped off with a wide witches hat.
"Hello little boy, is this the Wolfang household?" Her soft voice was so cute and soothing.
"Y-yes did you need my father?" She simply smiled and nodded. I ran to the back yard to where my father was training.
"Dad there's a little girl asking for you at the door." Father sighed as he wiped himself off and followed me inside. Once he and the girl met she formally greeted him with a light bow.
"Good morning sir my names Hikari Mildar. I'm here to accept the job listing for magical instructor." She showed father the notice paper he sent out.
"I hope you don't mind me asking for proof of qualification?" The girl simply shook her head and brought out a thin silver slab of some metal. Father made a faint whistle sound as he inspected it.
"A rank mage that's at saint level for water magic. Very impressive. You must be older than you look considering it says you're of the demon race."
(Demon race? She looks normal to me? I wonder if she can change her looks or something?)
"Yes sir. I come from the eastern area of the demon continent. Is the child in question around?" Father simply smiled and patted my head and gently nudged me out of the door. She looked at me and sighed as if she wasn't impressed.
"I hope this wasn't a waste of my time. You weren't just blinded by it being your child without him showing any real sign of magical aptitude were you?" Father simply laughed.
"He's a gifted child. Destined to be the best I'm sure of it." Hikari sighed
"I'll train him with everything I have. Either way I get paid regardless of his aptitude." She and my father shook hands.
Soon after my father left to continue his training while I was left alone with Hikari.
"I'll be blunt, I doubt you have as much talent as the job request said you have so I'll need you to show me what you can do."
(She's a water mage so I guess I'll use Water Bullet?) I hold out my hand and launch the spell blowing a hole in the trunk of a tree making it collapse and fall over. Suddenly I feel a firm grip on my shoulders and turn to see a shocked expression.
"Did you just cast without an incantation?!" I simply nodded.
"Its easier that way."
"Its easier huh?..." her head sunk down as if she was defeated and began muttering to herself.
"Maybe this little runt is actually worth teaching after all."
"You know I can hear you right?.." she finally let me go and smiled.
"This will be a good use of-"
"My treeee!!!" Mother came running outside clearly upset.
"Don't use my babies as target practice miss Hikari!"
(Scolded on her first day? I should probably say something.)
"It's my fault mom I was the one who-"
"Shut it Samu! She's the teacher so it's her responsibility!" She glared at Hikari
"Don't let it happen again!" She says as she storms away into the house.
(Geeze I havnt seen her act that way before? I feel bad for Hikari.) I turned to comfort her but she was already by the tree and was casting a healing spell. Soon after the tree was fully healed as if nothing happened.
"Wow miss you can use healing magic?"
"I can use water magic at saint level and all other forms at advanced." I must have looked surprised because she suddenly became puffed up with pride.
"You must be a pretty amazing mage then miss!" I decided to inflate her ego some more.
"There are mages far stronger than me out there in the world. I appreciate your words though." She decided to go down the humble route huh? So this is going to be my teacher going forward.
"I look forward to you helping me improve my magical capabilities." I kneel down before her in an attempt to show her my deep gratitude. She blushes and looks away.
"Y-yes I look forward to helping you grow."
Cuuuute! I've never been very studious but I have a good feeling about this one.
We spent the rest of the day together since father wanted me to take a break from today's training. During this time I was able to ask a lot of questions.
" is it normal to have hair color other than black, brown, and blonde?"
"I'm not sure about normal but as long as it's not multicolored it's not something to worry about."
"Something to worry about? Why would multicolored hair be something to worry about?"
"Among the demon race there's a clan called the Shinigami." She says with a look of fear.
"Shinigami? What's there to fear about them?"
"In the last great war over 1000 years ago there was a clan in the demon race who sided with the demon king at the time. They became consumed with blood lust and slaughtered everything. Women, children, and ally alike. Because of this the rest of the world united against them after the war and chased them out of their home land."
"Wow so is it any specific color combination or is simply having two colors enough?"
"There have been rare cases where someone who isn't of their tribe have two different colors. So to be certain they belong to the tribe check to see if they have a dragon engraved on their back. They were cursed after the war so they all have it."
"Cursed huh?.."
"Yes cursed by the demon god."
"Wha- a demon god?!"
"Yes. Each race has a god. Beast god, Demon god, Man god, and Elf god."
"E-elf god?" She nods and looks at me with a confused look.
"There's so much to learn.."
"Well of course! You're still so young."
"Ehhhhh? Aren't you too small to be calling me you- GyUu!" Suddenly she uses Stone Bullet to "punch" my gut.
"Just because I'm not tall it doesn't mean I'm young!" Geeeze I guess jokes on her height is a no go.
"Ok ok my bad. I'll avoid referring to master as short."
"Avoid calling me master while you're at it. You'll probably surpass me before long anyways."
"You think so?"
"I do."
So then I must have the ability to out grow her in magical ability. That's good to know, I'll be sure to not waste this potential.
We continued chatting until the sun began to set and mother called us in for dinner.
"Are you eating with us teacher?"
"Yes. Your parents included housing as well."
"Oh wow that's pretty nice of you guys."
"Its not a big deal. There's not a inn inside the village. Plus it's more convenient this way." Dad said as he began eating. Now that I think about it the maid never eats with us. Is it a status thing? Aren't they both employed?
"Dad why can Hikari eat with us but Elxie cant?"
"Because she's a servant. She typically eats alone."
"Why? Isn't she considered family or something?"
"No?" Mom chimed in.
"Isn't she your friend mother? You two always seem to be smiling together." Mother seemed to think for a moment.
"Its just the way it is Samu."
"Well I don't like the way it is. Treating your friends like that is cruel." Mom seemed surprised as well as father. Hikari simply smiled as she silently enjoyed her meal.
"I'll ask her tomorrow then if she'd like to join us. Is that alright with you?" Mother asked. I simply nodded in response. Usually when I finished eating I'd stay at the table and hang out with the family but today I was rather tired.
"I'm going to go ahead and go to bed." I said as I climbed out of my chair.
"Oh alright you sleep well." My mother said
"Tomorrow after your morning training with Hikari you will begin training with me again in the evenings."
"Understood. Then I'll see you tomorrow. Good night Hikari and thanks for today."
"OH it was no problem? Good night Samu."
With that I made my way to my bed and fell fast asleep.
