Chapter 5 - A Look From The Outside

Part 1

>Elxie Pov<

He's not normal no not normal in the slightest. He didn't cry as a baby a single time. Not after first entering this world and not anytime after. I've helped deliver and care for babies for my past employer and not a single one gave off such an ominous feeling. Is he cursed?

A few months after he was born Samu spent most of his time in Torren's study looking at various books. At first I wanted to prevent him from doing so out of fear he'd ruin the books or tomes however the fear of upsetting him kept me from doing so. I think he knows I'm avoiding him. Somehow I think he knows.

How can they be so excited? This is a frightening thing to happen. He nearly destroyed the home! At such a young age..to cast such a potent spell is unheard of. I'm not even sure a B rank adventurer could pull that off. Scary. What is he? Maybe I should try and get on his good side instead of avoiding him?

I've noticed when he's alone at times he simply stares off at something. Sometimes the ceiling. Sometimes the wall. It's not too unusual with normal children but his eyes...the look in his eyes are so distant and cold..The only time I've seen eyes like those are from people with wicked and dark hearts. It's almost like he feels no love. He smiles but there's no light in his eyes. Scary.

Maybe the child can feel love? During dinner he mentioned how he's going to miss days like today being spent together as a family. When saying this he looked at everyone including me. Why include me I'm just the maid, a servant for maintaining the home. What a strange child.

Trouble! Our village is under attack from goblins! What's worse is Samu just ran out to face the threat. Is he emboldened by his earlier outing with his father? Does he thirst to kill this much? Looking more carefully he's running into five of them! I must fetch Torren! Before I had the chance I saw Torren run past me still in his night clothes but with sword in hand and his wife close behind him.

I turned back to the situation with Samu and see only two goblins left standing. Huh? He's already killed three? Not only that but it looks like he blinded one of them and is fighting the last one hand to hand. Why is he not just casting spells? Is his mana spent?

Its hard to watch. He's fighting so desperately and yelling out to some child to run. He's sacrificing himself for a stranger?

He did it. He killed the last one with an explosive punch that blew him back near the now formerly blinded goblin. Torrens not going to make it. This all happened so fast. Just as Torren severed its head the thing plunged it's sword down into Samu. Though his mother was a powerful healer when they adventured together I'm not sure if she can save him. Torren seems to trust her though since he's already on his way to the village to assist the others.

I ran over to assist Rubyanna with Samu. His condition isn't good. He's lost too much blood. Rubyanna's sobbing and desperately trying to close his wound as fast as she can. She's an incredible healer yet his wound is still this deep? How much worse was his condition when she started? Its not just the gash across his chest or the pierced wound but also his scorched hand. Why did he go so far? Is he not a Cursed Soul? Is he actually a Blessed Soul?

Once his wounds closed we carried him inside to his bed.

"He's lost a lot of blood. I'll have to heal him every five minutes just to keep him alive.." Rubyanna said in a defeated tone.

"Even when he awakes his chest will still be scarred... Whyd he have to be so much like his father?.."

I had a hard time comforting her. All I could do was reassure and hold her. Thankfully it wasn't long after when Torren returned. His quick and heavy steps approaching with haste.

"How is he? Is my son ok?!" He asked as he threw open the door.

"He's stabilized. He's lost too much blood though so I might be in for a long couple of days..." Rubyanna says with a sullen face.

"That's bad huh?" Torren said as he held Rubyanna. Though she simply nodded.

"I'm sure our Samu will pull through. After all you've helped heal me through worse!"

"You weren't three years old..." she responds as she shakes her head.

"Yes but this is your son. I'm sure you'll find a way no matter how impossible."

After two nights and three days Rubyanna finally stabilized Samu's condition before fainting from mana fatigue. Torren made sure to carry her to bed for much needed rest. It was another two weeks before Samu finally woke up.
