Out of all things I would expect my afterlife to become, finding myself reborn was not one of them.
Finding myself buried underneath a pile of death though would be expected, I had after all died.
The weird thing was that even with no airto keep me alive, I still felt like I could stay here for way longer than possible.
Coupled with the fact that I was seemingly strong enough to claw through the dirt as I arose from what I only could understand as my grave had me even more confused.
But while I clawed through the dirt I felt something, inside of myself seemingly burning brighter and brighter then further up I went.
With this burning inside of me came something else though, memories.
Memories of a person named Simon Lewis clashed with my own, causing me to falter at my ascent.
I groaned, halfway out of this dirt that I presumed was my grave.
Simon's memories hammered against my mind as I relived both my life and his. I felt the faw brunt of his emotions which were only cooled down by my own.
I felt and experienced everything he felt throughout his entire life which got enhanced when I felt everything I've ever experienced in my own life.
[—Ding! Soul Fusion is commencing.....]
' Soul what?' I thought, dazed and confused as I focused on the screen that seemingly appeared right at the forefront of my brain.
' Wait....no, it can't be.' Dread filled my entire body, understanding that came from multiple years of being a shutin who read through fictional works that all had one thing, systems.
A screen appearing right in my head was a huge indicator of what I should expect.
But as that realization set it, another thing caught me off guard as everything suddenly made sense.
The system, the memories and all meta knowledge I had of settings like this.
I had been fucking reincarnated, into a fictional universe no less.
A universe I knew too, due to my binging tendencies.
I was in the Shadowhunters universe.
And if the memories drilling inside my brain were anything to go by, I was Simon fucking Lewis.
The best friend of Claire Fairchild, the protagonist of this world, who also is sadly the person that Simon...I was in love with.
' Wait...grave, the unnatural strength.' My mind made connections at lightspeed.' I had been inserted right after Simon had died, meaning that right now I was a vampire.'
[—Ding! Soul Fusion, Soul Recalibration, Soul Stabilization is complete!]
[—Welcome to the Shadowhunter World, Simon.]
I almost felt like laughing really, if not for the dirt that would immediately enter though my mouth I actually would've, just from the sheer bullshit that I was in.
Reincarnation was something that I had only seen in fiction, it wasn't supposed to be real, as much as I had hoped it was a few years ago.
[—The Upgrade System is Online!]
[—To explore it's functions, 'Will' for the Menu function to be enlarged! And remember, Live in interesting times.]
For a moment I paused.
Simply staring at the screen inside my head, stilling myself for what was about to happen alongside the people waiting for me to burst out of my grave, I opened the menu.
I didn't like the feeling of confinement, even if I didn't feel anything wrong simply laying in the dirt of my grave.
[—Menu—]
[—Status—]
[—Inventory—]
[—Upgrade—]
[—Quests—]
—[—]—
Looking through the four functions of my system I could already guess what it did, I wouldn't know for sure though until I went through it's functions myself.
And so I did.
[—1/2—]
[—Name: Simon Lewis.]
[—Race: Vampire.]
[—Hp: 100%]
[—DMP: 100%]
—[Stats]—
—[Body]—
—Strength: 40
—Agility: 45
—Constitution: 42
—[Mind]—
—Intelligence: 29
—Perception: 35
—[Magic]—
—D-Mana: 10
—[Meta]—
—Charm: 20
—[—]—
Well, at least I understood where I got all my strength for sure now.
Though I would have liked getting to know the average for normal humans.
[— Ding! On the Physical Spectrum, 4-5 is the average while 10 is the limit.]
' Oh? So now you decide to be informative? While you're at it, can you tell me what the upgrade function does?'
...
...
.
' No? Okay then.'
Sighing to myself I swiped to the second page of my status.
[—2/2—]
[—Abilities—]
—Sanguine Momentum[1/10] - The Ability of the Vampire race that allows them to accelerate their speed, using this ability will double their speed and momentum.
—Night Vision[1/5] - The Ability that all Night Creatures evolve, allows the user to see in low light environments as if it was daytime.
—Compulsion[1/10] - The Ability to compel others to do the users bidding, stronger minds and those with too much willpower will be less affected by this ability.
—[—]—
Raising an eyebrow at that I shrugged, I already knew of these abilities as they were the most used in the series.
Except for compulsion, that one was was rarely used even with it's usefulness.
Seeing as there was no skill page, I moved on.
Next was my inventory, and to my surprise there was something inside already.
It looked like a gift box, focusing on it allowed for a description to show.
[—Gift Box - A Gift box granted to the host from the system, holds a random assortment of 3 which can range from knowledge, items or abilities.]
Immediately my attention focused on the box, I even had to stop myself from immediately opening it right then and there.
But I still had two more functions to see through, so I did just that as I moved on from my inventory with a grumble.
[—Upgrade Tokens - 1—]
[—Input Item for Upgrade - None—]
[—Upgrade Cost - No Item Inputed!—]
Looking through the upgrade function for a couple seconds I found that my assumptions on how my system worked to be spot on.
I could seemingly with the use of the upgrade function, upgrade items with the use of these upgrade tokens which I had only one of.
' Now to find out how to obtain them, should be fairly easy... hopefully.'
And I was right. The next and last function would be how I got these tokens it seemed.
[—Quests—]
—Quest -
~Reward - 3 Upgrade Tokens.
—Quest - Sire your first vampire into your coven.
~Reward - 5 Upgrade Token.
—[—]—
I only had 2 quests, of which I probably wouldn't be finishing anytime soon, until I got my bearings at least.
And finally, now that I was done with that I immediately re-opened my inventory and opened the gift box.
[—Ding! You've obtained the following!
—Basic Blood Grimoire[Uncommon] - A Grimoire containing a small assortment of basic blood spells.
—Corrupted Super Soldier Serum[Rare] - A failed recreation of the supersoldier serum, further corrupted by being tainted with the blood of an undead zombie.
—Bloody Orchid Cultivation Pill[Ultra Rare] - A Cultivation Pill refined from the rare Bloody Orchid which contains vast blood energy and blood concentration. Mostly used by blood energy cultivators to increase their affinity for blood and for refining blood type bloodlines.]
Immediately my interest was peaked.
Though I was a bit unsure of the first item I obtained.
From what I knew, vampires couldn't use magic in this world, only Warlocks, Demons or the Sealie had the means to utilise magic due to their demon blood.
Vampires and even most of of the supernatural world had demon blood though so I really could never understand why that was, the mana stat indicated that I atleast had an energy container inside me that should allow me to utilise magic.
For now though, I would be hopeful.
But my focus was on my last two obtained items.
A corrupted version of the supersoldier serum that I would not be using anytime soon, the zombie taint was enough for to make that decision.
Maybe I could somehow crack its secrets when I became better equipped and knowledgeable.
And the Bloody Orchid Cultivation Pill would be instantly used though, I was a creature that was tied to blood, so hopefully this Pill would atleast give me and advantage or edge against everything else in this world.
Hopefully I wouldn't explode, that seemed to be something that every cultivation novel I've read had.
But I couldn't use it while buried in the dirt, so that meant that I had used up all my time under here and should deal with the shitstorm that Clary Fairchild.
And the feelings that I inherited from his soul.
' I'm not looking forward to any of this....'
