Chapter 6 - Encounter with Demon

7 days had passed since Yami had started his journey to Mount Fujikasane.

Yami had a peculiar pattern of travelling. He would travel mostly at night and rest during the day. And why would he do so? He wanted to have an encounter with demons.

While it may seem dangerous to travel in such a manner in an unknown territory, as he could have encountered a lower moon or even an upper moon demon, Yami did not care.

As far as Yami was concerned, he was sure that even if he could not fight a lower moon on equal footing, escaping from it would not be a problem. And if he really encountered an upper moon, he did not really care. So be it his fate.

But fortunately, or unfortunately, Yami had not encountered a single demon so far.

But, finally 7 days later, he had encountered a strange place today.

The village in which he had stopped for his break was flying with weird news- news about the disappearance and murder of a few people during the night over the past 2 nights.

The whole village had been terrified, and Yami knew in an instant that it was a demon. He had visited the two houses where the killings had occurred, and one of them also had obvious signs of struggle. Someone from the family must have put up a resistance to the demon.

And Yami, from whatever data he could have gathered, had deduced that it was neither a lower moon nor an upper moon.

It was an ordinary demon, if demons could be called ordinary at all.

The sun was on the horizon, and it was about to set. Yami was sitting on the edge of a lake situated close to the village, and his axe was placed near him.

He was bare-chested as he looked at his reflection in the lake. He was around five and a half feet tall—quite astonishing for a 16 year old boy. Because of the brutal training he had undergone in the past 6 months, his body and muscles had transformed.

He was lean and tightly packed with muscles and abs on his chest and arms.

He cast a final gaze at his 'steely frame' in the calm waters of the lake, and the next moment he bent his knees and dived into the water.

Yami enjoyed a session of swimming in the cold water of the lake, and he only emerged back during the dusk and the darkness was about to almost take over.

After changing into dry clothes, Yami strapped the axe on his back and trekked back towards the village.

He had just entered the area of the settlements when an old man interrupted him.

"Young man," he said with a gentle smile. "Why would you roam outside during the darkness?"

"Have you not heard the news?" he continued. "In no time, the entire village would be locked up in their houses and they would place all sorts of big and heavy objects on their doors."

"They act like a few kilograms of weight would stop that thing," he chuckled.

"You should return to the home where you have rented your room," the old man added with goodwill.

Yami also smiled in response.

"Old grandfather," he said. "Do not worry about me."

"I am not the one who runs away from those things," he grinned.

"They should be the ones running."

Yami walked away, leaving a stunned old man behind.

It was as the old man had said. As dusk settled in, every resident of the village had been packed into their houses.

Meanwhile, Yami was out there in the open. He was sitting cross-legged in an open area in the centre of the village waiting for the demon to appear.

Yami remained in the same meditative position for a few hours, and it was almost midnight when his eyes snapped open.

He turned his head slowly towards his right as he grinned, "Took you long enough to arrive."

The demon was an ugly piece of shit… every demon was an ugly piece of shit for Yami. At least he was humanoid in his appearance- he did not have extra limbs or some other organ in his body. He was short, less than 5 feet in height, and his entire body was light violet in colour.

But the most noticeable part of his body were his arms. Both of his arms were covered with elongated spikes of the same light violet colour, more than 30 spikes on each arm, and it looked as if every spike was penetrating through the arm.

"Who are you?" the demon asked in a raspy voice.

Although the demon could feel a bit of danger emanating from the man, he was not really afraid. He had heard of that group of people who hunted demons, but this man did not seem to be one.

For he was not carrying that special steel that could kill a demon. Without that steel, he had no reason for fear.

"Me?" Yami chuckled; but his chuckle was filled with an intense wave of anger. After that day, after that fateful day when he had lost his everything, this was the first time he had come face to face with a demon.

And every cell of his body was boiling with anger. It was like his anger was about to explode.

"Me?" he repeated. "I am nobody."

"But you can say that I am a traveller… a traveller who has just begun his journey."

"And do you know what my destination is?"

"What?" the demon asked instinctively.

"The erasure of every demon from this world," he said, much to the shock of the demon.

With this, light erupted from Yami's body.

"Light breathing—First Form: Light Beam."

With Yami's whisper, his body moved at an alarming speed, much like a light beam erupting from a torch.

The demon could not even trace Yami's movement, and by the time he was able to make out anything, he found his body had been cleaved into two. His upper torso above the hip was separated from his lower torso.

Even so, it did not really fall to the ground, as it had been healed in an instant and had been joined back.

"Who are you?" the demon muttered as he turned back to face Yami.

This time he was extremely shocked and frightened.

Yami, who was now standing with his back towards the demon, turned his body and he had a grin on his face. The grin literally sent chills down the spine of the demon.

"Why do you keep asking the same question again and again?" Yami muttered and he sprinted towards the demon.
