Going to the frontlines
"Tsunade, you have finally returned….." Hiruzen greeted his student with a gentle smile on his face. Due to the increasing tension in the border of land of fire and The land of grass, Hiruzen had called back his student. Tsunade, with a weakness like haemophobia, was not suited to fight in war. But as one of the three legendary Sannins, she could increase the morale of their shinobi, just by being present on the battlefield.
"Old man….." Tsunade let out a tired sigh.
She owed Hiruzen, har former teacher, quite a few favors. Especially to cover up many of her big and small mistakes in the past.
Back when she first lost her brother Nawaki, Tsunade was completely devastated. She didn't know how to cope with her loss. Finally after hearing a suggestion about drinking, she went to a random bar to drink as much alcohol as possible. That night she got her alcohol addiction. But that's not the only thing she got. The next day when she woke up with a massive hangover, she found herself naked in a random inn. Her transformation was undone and her virginity was taken. After that one night stand with a random guy whose face or name she didn't remember, she found herself pregnant with a baby. That was the time when Hiruzen came forward to help her. But around three months into her pregnancy, Dan Kato came into her life. Fearing that he might not accept her after finding out that she had a baby, Tsunade had dumped the child in the hands of her teacher without even seeing its face. Back then, Hiruzen had taken advantage of the situation and had taken a promise from Tsunade. Once she abandoned the child, she will never be able to claim her as her. But back then, Tsunade was young and had made a lot of mistakes. And abandoning her blood was one of her biggest mistakes that she still regrets to this day.
After remaining with Dan in a relationship for a year, Dan left the world and she developed her haemophobia.
"I hope you have taken enough rest before coming here ?" Hiruzen asked her.
"Yes. You can go straight to the topic. You know about my weakness very well. I can't even read injured shinobi properly. So exactly what do you want me to do ?" Tsunade asked the old hokage.
"Don't worry, I will not send you to the frontline. I want you to take the command of the rear logistic base of our Iwa front. Orochimaru has taken the position of chief commander in the front lines against Iwa. So you will just have to be present there to increase the morale of our shinobi. I will be sending the chief of the hospital to the battlefield. So you don't have to worry about treating anyone either. Originally I was going to send Jiraiya with you. After hearing the final part, Tsunade raised an eyebrow.

"*Whistle* Now that brightened up my mood. But do you have anyone capable of fighting in case Iwa attacks our rear ?" Tsunade asked the most important question.
"Well. I have a very capable Ninja in mind. She is young and inexperienced. But her barriers are the real deal. With her beside you, you wouldn't have to worry about anything. She should be here at any moment." Hiruzen told Tsunade.
As if exactly waiting for this moment, Usagi knocked at the door of the hokage office.
"Come in."
"Grandpa hokage, you called for me ?" Usagi entered the office and asked Hiruzen. Hiruzen was happy to hear, Usagi was still calling him grandpa. Although she was not as cheerful as before, it was still a good sign that she had not lost herself.
Tsunade on the other hand was not doing good at all. Just from a glance, Tsunade understood who the child was. There was no mistake. Apart from the hair colour and the hair style, Usagi was the copy of her younger version.
Her mind raced, as she tried to figure out what was going on.
Around that time, Usagi also noticed Tsunade.
"Wait a minute ! You are Princess Tsunade, one of the legendary Sannins…..
Sorry, did I interrupt any important meeting ?" Usagi asked, turning towards the hokage.
"No, quite the opposite. I wanted you here to meet your future commander. As you have already figured out, she is Tsunade Senju, one of my students. I have made her the commander of the rear logistic base of our Iwa front. You will be going there as the deputy commander for the time being. That's why I called you to inform you and for you to meet your commander." Hiruzen told Usagi.
"I am really grateful for the position. But are you sure old man ? I don't have any real life experience." Usagi said doubtfully.
"Don't worry about it. I have faith in you. And besides, no one knows everything. You will learn eventually. Now you should get acquainted with Tsunade for now. You will be leaving for the Iwa front tomorrow morning." Hiruzen told Usagi before turning towards Tsunade.
"Oh ! I completely forgot to introduce you to Tsunade.
Tsunade, she is Usagi, an elite Jonin. She specialises in fuinjutsu and barriers. She is also a good taijutsu user. I will give you the mission details tomorrow. For now, you two can leave." The old hokage dismissed Usagi and a speechless Tsunade.
"You, wait in the jonin lounge. I have something to discuss with the teacher. I will meet you once I am done with him." Tsunade suddenly told Usagi.
Usagi didn't argue and simply left the office.
"Old man ! You are not playing a joke with me are you ? She….She is….."
"She is not related to you. I had warned you back then. But you wanted to sever all the ties with that child. So she is just another elite Jonin of the hidden leaf village.
Her talent in fuinjutsu surpasses even Tobirama sensei. As I told you earlier, she might be inexperienced, but she is strong enough to defend herself. She recently took on Sasori of the red sand, who has even killed kazekage and won without suffering a single scratch. So you should rest assured with her by your side." Hiruzen told Tsunade, who had a conflicted expression on her face.
"....." Tsunade sucked in a deep breath before releasing it. Then without saying a word she left the office. She didn't even know the gender of the child before she casted her aside. Now she could only regret. For a moment she thought about going to a bar and drinking her sorrows out.
But just as she was about to leave the hokage tower without even meeting Usagi, she stopped in her tracks.
"*Sigh*" Letting out another deep sigh, Tsunade turned back to head towards the jonin lounge. After all this year Tsunade had matured. So she was not going to repeat her past mistakes. As the hokage said, the girl was no one to her. She will just have to meet her deputy commander.
Upon reaching the jonin lounge, Tsunade found the girl sitting on a corner, scribbling something in her notebook. At her age, before the beginning of the second great shinobi war, she was still in the Academy….. Tsunade shook her head before going towards the girl.
"Usagi is it ?" She asked the girl.
"Come with me. I want to know how capable my deputy commander is before we leave tomorrow." Tsunade told the girl.
Even if she is nobody related to the girl, she could at least make sure that she is strong enough to go to the front line as a Konoha shinobi.
The training ground seven was full of carters. Tsunade, one of the legendary Sannins, breathed heavily. Her forehead was covered with sweat.
To her opposite, stood Usagi, completely fine.
Tsunade couldn't believe that, she couldn't even make the girl winded. She understood that her teacher was not joking when he told her that Usagi is fully capable of taking care of herself. The girl could summon multiple barriers and control them freely around her faster than an Uchiha Jonin can cast a fireball jutsu. And I can break free from genjutsu. But I don't know what to cast. But I have barriers that can prevent genjutsu from affecting me in the first place." Usagi replied stunning Tsunade completely.
