"I am the Shrieking Terror, Preyacht!" it was announced for all to hear. "Whom has summoned me, and for what purpose have I been brought into this backwater realm?"
How would three kids in school know that messing up a summoning spell could summon an elder demon?
You wouldn't believe it, but the answer was paying attention in class.
"Speak, little humans. There is no need to panic. I have already accepted the sacrifice needed to summon me. Your lives are not in danger." between my fingers, i saw him gesture to my crushed classmate. He must have implied that he was the sacrifice needed to satisfy him. "Now, why have you summoned me?"
"We wanted a bat! A simple, harmless bat. We don't want you, so just go back!" that was the other guy. The nerd still was without a mouth, so she couldn't speak. She tried to warn, but her muffled cries fell on deaf ears.
Preyacht frowned. It was like every muscle in his face twisted, embracing hatred as he stared down at my outspoken classmate.
"You wanted harmless?" the demon scoffed. "Little worm, I am the beast that lulls the Sleeping One to sleep with my discordance. My cries can alter the very fabric of your fragile universe. I have power beyond-"
"I don't fucking care!" the other guy yelled. Even I could sense the danger impending. The nerd ran over to me, crying in her muffle panic breaths I couldn't understand.
Preyacht's frown was only relieved when he said, "I lied. A second sacrifice is necessary." Then Preyacht peeled his lips back and let out a horrible sound. The air grew heavy, pushing on my skin as if the very air was solid. I watched the other guy burst into black liquid. Preyacht licked his lips. "This one's tenacity was quite delicious." Then he turned to the two of us. It squatted low, hovering over our little bodies. He was the size of a hill! He was a walking hill that stared down at me. "What do you want?"
The nerd grabbed my arm. She continued to try to speak to me. She kept pointing to Preyacht, then gesturing to the ground at our feet.
"I don't know what you're saying!" I cried. I felt like I was playing a twisted game of charades where my life was in the balance if I lost.
She fumed. Then she pointed to Preyacht, then to the ground. "He needs to go… to the ground?"
She fumed again, stomping her foot. She made a shoving motion at the ground, as if she was forcing something under the earth. She looked up at me to see if I understood.
"Dig? He needs to dig!" Then I frowned. "I need to make him dig to unsummon him."
Defeated, she clasped her hand to her head and tried to scream.
"What? I don't know what you're saying! You want him to dig? I don't get it!"
She shook her head, then pointed to me. Then she went through the motions again before thumping her pointer finger against my chest. She continued this, adding extra hand motions along the way. She made the symbol for "talking" with her hands after she pointed to me.
"I need to talk to him about… going under?"
She bobbed her head. She continued the motions, this time adding a ferocity when she made the shoving motion. She even exaggerated the "talk" signal, flapping her fingers like the beak of a bird.
Finally, after all this time I understood what she was saying. "I need to ask him to go back! To go back to his realm!"
Relieved, she sighed. Nodding, she turned me around to the demon.
