I just concluded my meeting with the Mayor, regarding some unfinished business. Making my way out, about to leave the mansion, I came in contact with the man Emily was with at he banquet. He was marching towards my direction, and I thought of walking past him, but felt it wouldn't be appropriate to do so, and proceeded to exchange pleasantries.
"Good morning, Mr. Fernandez!" I greeted, and to my suprise, he halted and responded, smiling back at me. I am sure he knows I am the one who married Emily.
"Hello, Mr. Ryan! Trust business is going well?" He asked, pulling out of the shake.
"Yes, thank you sir." He nodded, turning on his heels. I outstretched my hands to the man, but he acted like I was invisible to him, and walked past me.
I don't recall having a fight with him, we are not even that close to hold grudges, so why would he ignore me? I turned on my heels, striding to where I had left my assistant waiting for me.
"Boss! The guys called, they said they want to meet you." He informed, while i settled in the car.
"Take me there." I responded, proceeding to grab the seatbelt.
Is this arrogance? Empire company is renowned as the largest because they operate across multiple industries—raining from real estate and gold mining to the airlines and the furniture company. All of these operate under one umbrella, which is why they are known as Empire company.
"Boss! Are you okay?" His voice brought me back to the present.
"I am fine. Focus on the road." I knew he was trying to start a conversation, but I wasn't in the mood.
The drive continued for another eight minutes before we arrived at the hospital. I had instructed to find out who had hacked into the hospital's server. Hopefully there was some good news.
As I stepped out of the car, I noticed a group scurrying towards me— they must have spotted the car arriving.
"Good day, boss." They chorused, heads cast down. I noticed how everyone was avoiding eye contact. This could only mean one thing, they still hadn't found the person who hacked the server.
If we could track the Hacker, it might give us a clue on how she left the hospital. Where did she go after asking for a divorce that day?
"What did yiu find? It's been weeks now. Don't tell me there's still no trace." I asked, scanning their faces, waiting for an answer.
If only Ethan hadn't ignored me, I could have asked him about Emily, to confirm if it was truly her or her twin.
"Boss, we still haven't found who hacked the server. There hasn't been a single trace since the day she left the hospital." One of them finally responded, nervously stepping backward.
I looked at the person next to me and saw him inching away as well. "What do you mean yiu can't find a trace? What do I pay you for if you can't do your job?"
"I don't think we can find a trace. Whoever is behind this must be an expert." I glanced around, hoping to spot someone tailing us, but there was no one. Heaving a small sigh, I turned to my assistant.
"Take me back to the office, the two of you should meet me later in the day."
"Yes, boss!" He replied, ready to turn on his heels when someone called out my name.
"Mr. Ryan! Look who we have here." I turned to see Anderson, the president of Whiff Wonders Company.
I wondered why he was calling me, considering we didn't get along. Not long ago, he had made me loose a contract, and instead of apologizing, he accused me of negligence.
I forced a smile, waiting for him to approach. As he hit close enough, I extended my hand to greet him.
"It's nice to meet you. What are you doing at the hospital?" I raised my brows.
"I came here to see a patient. What about you? He inquired, patting the hands of his blazer. It was spotless; he clearly likes to show off.
"I had to see my men, but I am leaving now. See you some other time." I nodded briefly, ready to walk away, when he spoke.
"It's a pity you lost such a precious gem." Is he trying to mock me? How is that any of his business? I slowly turned to look at him, unsure if he was referring to Emily.
There's no way he could be talking about her, I have never discussed my marital life with him. I certainly hadn't introduced them, and had no right to interfere in my business, especially not my marriage.
"What are you talking about? I don't recall loosing a gem."
"Of course you did, your wife. You couldn't keep her, isn't that why you had to divorce her? As if that weren't enough, you proceeded in painting her as a thief when you know she's capable of suing you for defamation."
What is he getting at? How does he know she's capable.
"I willl like to keep my marital life life out of this, I hope you understand me. Have a wonderful day." I hopped into the car and we hit the road.
I can't believe he has the guts to discuss someone's marriage when he's been married to two different women, both of whom he ended up divorcing. His first wife was caught cheating with a man, which led to the divorce.
According to her, he doesn't have time for her, and doesn't satisfy her in bed. His second wife stole from him and ran off with another man. When she was caught, she filed for a divorce.
"Boss! About what you asked me to look into, I think I should tell you about it." My assistant began. I cut him off on our way to the hospital. Now he's at it again.
"What are you talking about?"
"Ms. Emily must have asked for a divorce because of how your mother and sister have been cold towards her, especially your mother, Mrs. Samantha."
Where is all this coming from? Mother has been cold to her?
"If my mother had been cold to her, why didn't she tell me? Why has she never uttered a word to me about it?"
"Are you forgetting you married her solely because you wanted her blood in return? You married her because of her special blood type."
"I gave her more than what she asked for. I paid her three times the amount she requested for. Was that not enough?" I almost raised my voice at him.
"Your money was never what she wanted from onset. Everything she went through at the hands of your mother, she wanted Mrs. Samantha to accept her. She married you because she loved you." He continued, "she was your secretary for a couple of years before she requested you marry her, and in exchange, she would donate her blood to Zara."
The sound of my phone caught my attention, and I immediately reached out for it. I saw Zara on the screen and proceeded to pick it up.
