Chapter 15 - Unnamed

I woke up with a severe headache, reaching out to the clock on the stand, I checked, it was pass 6:30am. I slept very late, and woke up very early, I wasn't stunned. I am used to doing it while married to Ethan, I guess it will take sometime for me to adjust to waking up by eight in the morning.

Stepping out of the bed to do some activities before preparing for work, I heard noises coming from downstairs. It's too early, who could it be? If the maids were up doing their chore, I shouldn't be hearing it from my room, and besides it doesn't seem like it was coming from the kitchen.

I made my way downstairs, exiting quietly. As I stepped into the living room, a sudden flash of light almost blinded me, causing me to glance away. The room was dimmed. But there was enough light for me to find my way around.

Turning towards the couch, I heard my father's voice. "I'm here. Should I turn on the lights?" His tone was low, almost heavy.

"Father?" I called, walking over to him. "Isn't it too early to be watching the screen? Why are you…" I trailed off, settling beside him and resting my head on his shoulder.

He pointed to the television. " look." He said, I turned my gaze to the screen. The headline flashing across my eyes widen in shock. It was too early for this to be all over social media. It happened just yesterday, and I am sure there's no way the fifth party was involved.

"What happened?" I asked, looking back at my father. "There's no way this could have gotten out, except someone from the meeting leaked it to the media."

The meeting was harmless, just an attempt to uncover the truth. But it feels like their way of pushing me to drop the investigation.

"I was asleep when I got a call to watch this." My father said, his voice heavy. "Your suspicion is right. I know you are thinking Adam's leaked it. If you hadn't gone through the divorce, I wouldn't be as concerned. What he is doing now is exposing himself."

I understand his worry. My involvement in this could bring unwanted attention to my personal life, especially my past with Ethan. We worked hard to bury everything.

If things escalate, I might have to maintain the facade of a husband. With time, I will make him reveal the truth behind our divorce.

"This shouldn't be something you should worry about. I can handle it. Father."

I feel blessed to have someone like him in my life. My father never fough for me this way, I never truly felt his love. But this man will go great lengths to defend my name. He won't allow any harm come to me, and I feel so comfortable calling him father.

I'm not his birth child, yet he treats me the same way he treats his children. What more can I ask for? I want him to be proud of me. I don't want to ever disappoint him.

"I know you are strong but the fight won't be easy. Since it hit the media, you will face backlash, and his father might want to meet you in person."

I understand why he seemed agitated. I can do more than just act like the president of the company. Meeting his father shouldn't scare me, unless there's something more behind his fear.

Mother said he called already, I wonder what they had to discuss. If he's innocent as he claims to be, this shouldn't even be a problem to begin with.

Demanding how some items and money went missing isn't an offense. You have been working for the company, and you are loyal, then prove your loyalty.

"I want you to trust me, father." I am not accusing him. Let's put it this way— there are some mistakes that need to be corrected, and as the general manager, he needs to explain to the company what happened."

Father sighed, clearly contemplating, but I am not giving up on this investigation.

"Okay! Let's give him a week to come up with what ever excuse he's scheming. I trusted his father, and believe his son would take his foot steps, that was why i employed him aftet the previous manager resigned."

"Leave this to me, just meet his father and hear what he has to say. When I am back from the office, let me in."

I still will like to work with him, if he's innocent, there's no need to terminate his employment. The company has been doing well even before he came into the picture, then this shouldn't be a cause for alarm.

He can be forgiven and still work for the company. Left for me, I won't accept him back. But because of peace and the way my parents seem adamant about it, I have to let it go.

"You should go back to bed, your eyes are swollen. I am sure you slept less, get enough sleep."

"I have to be at the office earlier today. Remember all the managers were asked to be present, I can't afford to be late."

I stood up studying his expression. Something wasn't right, there was something he wasn't saying, and I knew mother wouldn't say a word if I asked her.

But what if this causes a problem between both of them? I need to speak with her. She has to understand me. After all, she was the one who encouraged me to look into this. She can't turn her back on me now.

"Alright! I'm counting on you." He responded. I nodded and made my way back to the bedroom. Plopping onto the bed, I let out a sigh of relief. I don't see anything difficult about this.

"There's nothing to worry about." I reassured myself. "I can handle this, and I promise to resolve things amicably. But if they decide to be stubborn, they will have to deal with me.
