Chapter 3 - Ash - Heroes don't make mistakes

I breathed out as I contemplated his question. I really wanted to get out of this stuffy car. Physically forcing myself not to roll my eyes as i heard his annoying deep voice. I can't believe those fucking asswipes. Fine, I pissed myself. SO BLOODY WHAT?! I mentally lash out knowing any physical attitude would definitely make me cross the line into being washed out. I continue to think of my kids hoping they don't get teased like I do. I didn't want my sons to have to deal with the same. Fucking heroes with their boot licking buddies.

"Does it matter?" I said, looking straight ahead avoiding looking at his face. I didn't want to talk with this selfish conniving piece of garbage who can't stop insulting me for something.....

"If it didn't, I wouldn't ask. If you want me to train you and even help you for any future prospects, you're gonna have to tell me your goals."Help? From him? The thought of it made me wanna barf.

"Who said i needed your help?" I slowly sat up as i side eyed him. I saw and finally registered his light brown skin, with deep brown scars slightly over the course of a hard won tenure. But before the man could respond, A pink car had sped in front of us.

"Hit the lights." He said as he told me to call it in. I grabbed the radio mic and said.

"Uh. 3-Pony-26, we are at a traffic stop.... uh." Fuck. Where the hell were we?

"Where are we, Boot!" He said louder as he parked the car a few meters behind the offender.

Shit. Fuck. I looked around at the signs. There were none except that stupid red stop sign that looked like it was laughing right at me! He snatched the radio from my hands.

"3-Pony-26, Traffic stop at Primrose avenue near Tulpa Lake." He said as he glared at me. I felt my world crumbling even more. Why the fuck am i fucking this up so damn much? I was definitely getting a blue page. I could fucking feel it.

"What do we do in a traffic stop boot?" He said, his voice measured. What? He wasn't going to punish me. "What?" I breathed out.

"Now. What do we do?"

"Cover and Contact, right?" I looked at him.

"Are you asking or telling me?" His brown eyes narrowed with disapproval.

"No. Uh. One person goes, talks with the person, contact and the other checks if they have any weapons, cover." I recounted.

"I didn't ask for an explaination. Now come. You take contact. Fuck this up and you will do 10 pushups every damn incident that happens this week." Oh my god. I stifled a groan as I got out of the car. The duty belt that was provided to us. Taser, Pepper spray, Gun, the power 'less' fluid. The works started to dig into my skin. This was the first traffic stop I have to deal with. I couldn't fuck this up. I need the damn job for my two little babies.

I stalked closer to the car as i gently touched the hood with my fingers while that bastard was on the other side.

"Nice to meet you, officer." The woman in the car smiled at me. She looked young, about my ripe age of 24. I glanced at the back of her car. Empty.

I feel obligated to be nice to her. She's much better than the assholes i had to deal with today. But i can't. Lies are most effective when laced with a modicum of respect.

"Do you know why i pulled you over ma'am?" I asked politely, smiling.

"No, officer." She definitely knows.

"Well, you ran a stop sign and I can see you have a broken tail light. License and Registration, please." She raised her eyebrow. "Why, Officer?" The condescencion. Her voice bleeds out with a slight as i saw her looking over my body.... She was weighing her options. But i couldn't do much knowing she didn't do anything yet.

"License and Registration." I said more firmly. "Please." She relented before giving me her registration. "Step out of the car."

Melina George. Her photo looks the same.

"What?! Why?" Her voice raised. "Relax. This is so you don't drive off." I reassured her before motioning her to get out.

"Any powers, i should know about?" I helped her out of the car and watched the fellow officer as he simply took the car

"None at all." Liar.

"I'll find out through the system anyways. Just so you know. Perjury is a crime. Especially to an officer just doing their job."

"I'm not....." She stayed silent. "Watch her, please?" I asked the bastard officer before he nodded for me to go run the data. I quickly went to the shop laptop and typed in.

Damn. Her powers: super strength and she has outstanding warrants for drug trafficking and arson?!

CRASH

Glass shards flew all over as it scarred my face. I looked up and saw my partner bleeding into the shop windshield. I almost laughed cuz that bastard deserved it until I saw the woman trying to speed off in her car. I ignored him and ran out of the car and shot the tires right before it moved. "Get out of the car" I ordered, my gun trained on her. "Make me." The girl's true colors shown through well enough. "What a kid" I already felt tired from this nonsense.

I reached for my taser and shot it right before she grabbed me... The electric shock bounced off her strong arms so i cranked it higher until she collapsed in her car.

I pulled her outside and cuffed her, the small pin pricks in her handcuffs injecting a toxin that temporarily removes her ability. I pulled her lithe body which didn't seem powerful in the slighest out and placed her inside the back of the shop.

I won't lie when i say i enjoyed looking at him like this. All weak. Broken. But then i saw his face glaring at me through the blood. Fucking hell.

"Call the...." He wheezed "CALL the damn ambulance...." He spat out.

"Right. Sorry." I grabbed the radio "3-Pony-28, Code 4, One in custody, uh officer down. Send an Ambulance to our location quickly please. and additional units to get the suspect."

"An ambulance is on it's way." A woman spoke over the radio. I don't decide to move him yet because doing that would make it worse.

"What can i do?" I ask to be nice. I felt bad. I almost laughed at this dude's suffering because i couldn't handle his damn attitude...? I mentally rebuked myself as i forced myself to be kinder. That was until that bastard was laughing.

"Just shut up, boot." He coughed out, looking disgusted by my mere presence. I felt annoyed. I was just trying to be nice. This is what always happens. When I'm mean, I rebuke myself to be better and then they aren't grateful when I'm nice.

I rolled my eyes as I grabbed the first aid kit and tried to slowly remove any and all of the smaller glass shards. Not completely taking him out but the excess. I'm not gonna stand idly by and watch him blame me for not helping. I hope my body cam is on so that they can see what a damn good rookie I am.

It didn't take long when the ambulance had arrived. "He's stuck in the glass." The workers looked appalled. They slowly helped take him out trying to make sure the damage wasn't permanent.

I sat in the ambulance as we drove. He didn't even look at me as if I'd shamed him, dishonored him in some weird police tradition way. I felt even worse than before now honestly.

I'd say sorry. But my pride kept score of all the shit he did today. The things he'd say to make me cry. And yet the slight cuts on my face from the glass felt like punishment I deserved, considering, i just wanted him to die because of his taunting..... I really never changed. Did i? Why am i so fucking weak?!

Sigh.... I hope Aspen and Porus are doing better than I am right now.
