He... felt affection for me. Longing. Weird.
When i flicked his head, I wanted to intimidate him, show him that the world wasn't going to be nice even if you're crying. To understand his motives. His goals. His passions. I took a bit for me to process as i slowly inched closer to Jess's table. Did he like me? But.... I'm not.... gay. Yeah. It's illegal too. So no bloody point in doing that shit.
I have a lovely girlfriend. Her soft yet experienced skin and her sweet voice filled with affection for me. The personality that keeps me on my feet, dancing to impress her.
I remember the day we went on a small picnic, she'd lean on my stomach as i slowly plate her hair. I didn't know what i was doing but I made sure never to tangle it in a way it can't be untangled. She'd laugh as she'd tell me about her day and I'd kiss her head.
Gopi : Austin failed the interview. I warned him not to take it so lightly. You should have seen the look on his face when he realized I WAS THE INTERVIEWER!
"I bet he shat himself." I laughed with her. She had the weirdest yet lovely cackle. What I would do.... to hear it right now.
Gopi : Oh come on. I'm not as scary as you are, Keerti.
"I'm scary?" I said as i grabbed her and pinned her to the ground. The air electrified as my body pressed on hers. She had nowhere to run now that I got her in my grasp. But, she just rolled her and smiled goofily, knowing she wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Our lips crashed into each other as we shared a long, loving kiss.
Longing spread through my body. How much I wanted to touch her again? She always felt more busy this time of year. More.... distant. We'd have our moments of loving but the next morning she'd feel busy. I could tell she felt sad, her affection dwindling every time the sun rose. She would tell me she wanted me not to use my powers to understand her. I agreed. I loved her because she showed me that i didn't need my powers to feel confident in myself. To calculate my actions. To guarantee the best outcome. To let the sleeping dogs lie and just sleep with them.
Gopi : I will always love you. You don't need your powers to know that.
She cupped my cheek in the hospital, after the accident with the car, when that woman through me through the windshield and..... Ash was gone.
Gopi : I'm just stressed. But.... I can handle it. You getting hurt, however, definitely didn't help.
"I didn't ask for it." I twirled her locks with my finger as i smiled.
Gopi : Of course you didn't.
She sat beside me on the bed as she slowly traced my body. Her finger slowly touched the scars as she gave small kisses. To each single one. My body was on a different kind of fire right now.
"Haah.....If I wasn't so wounded, I would have pounced on you right now. Taken care of you."
Gopi: I don't doubt it. You've taken care of me for quite a while no? Now it's my turn.
She sat up and snapped her fingers from which i knew tampered with the camera. She locked the door, closed the blinds and we-
Jess: 3- PENNY- 26!
The sound blared through the radio Jess held to my face. I flinched back. "What the hell was that for?"
Jess : "Must have been a good daydream if you're dreaming this hard. The Kenji I know would never daydream on the job"
"It's lunchtime. Not counted." I said as i shook my ear.
Jess [Annoyed]: What's the report?
Oh right. Him.
"Ash's emotions change quite a lot expectedly. Not much to go on other than he's the rebellious type and he's afraid of butterflies." I sat down as we whispered.
Jess was confused as she ate her set of Tacos and soda.
Jess: The butterfly killer is afraid of butterflies? Not exactly off the mark. People do kill things they are afraid of. Maybe he's afraid of heroes cuz we will catch him.
"So Heroes are like butterflies?"
Jess: Yeah..... Butterflies are beautiful to look at no?
"Don't assume. It's not exactly fair to him and we only go after facts no?"
Justin had come and got the chicken salad. "Not bad Boot. Who gave the idea?"
Justin [Neutral, polite]: It was Ash's Idea.
I gazed at Ash who was talking to Officer Briggs and laughing. My eyes narrowed... He got this.... for me? I looked at Justin who didn't even seem like he was lying.
"Go and sit with the Boots. Thank you." I ordered.
I check my phone and check that the tracker put on Justin is still working. "Wanna listen?"
Jess: Do it back in the station. If we listen to now, we won't be able to do anything even if we find something.
"Fair enough." We munched on the food. Did he seriously.... make a smart choice?. I looked at Ash again. He felt happy. Forget it. II can't deal with this right now. Especially knowing he could be the Butterfly killer.
"Commander Anita said there would be rewards for this right?" I asked.
Jess: Depends on the outcome. If we find out he's the Butterfly killer, Commander said, I could get the Tap for Bomb Squad. There is an open spot for the Mayorsfield PD.
"That's Awesome!"
Jess: Yeah. So give me your Boot. I wanna try my hand at fixing the leaky faucet.
I chuckled "You're not gonna go anywhere if you call him that. He's become more rebellious. So i'd watch my step if i were you."
She looked at me.
Jess: That's the thing. I'm not you.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
Jess: You go in like you always do. Guns blazing and all. Giving Tough love to every rookie you meet.
"They need to toughen up. It's a time tested practice, getting into people's heads is what we must do so that they have thicker skulls and not let themselves be affected by anything unnecessary... especially stress."
Jess: You're right. But you haven't changed your formula. You can't expect the same from every rookie without knowing their backgrounds. Everyone can be a good cop if they learn to care. But it's our job as T.Os to give them that room to grow. Remember Officer Kolop?
My mind soured as i remembered the man. "Don't remind me."
Jess pat my back.
Jess: Then you know if you push him too hard, you might lose him too...
Jess walked away calling my boot as I shot to my feet. "LETS GO, OFFICER BRIGGS AND OFFICER JUSTIN"
