Wish ran out of the consultation room as fast as she could before she made the mistake of giving in to her feelings, which she would end up regretting forever. It was thundering outside when she stepped out of the building and was surprised to see her best friend back already from the vet. She was outside with Ash arguing heatedly— which was something she rarely saw them doing ever since their five year relationship. Rufus stood drenched from head to toe beside the car shivering from the cold and barking as Ash grew more aggressive while talking to Haley.
Haley looked like she was moments away from breaking down in tears as the four of them got beaten mercilessly by the heavy downpour. Wish quickly picked up Rufus and led him inside the car before he could get wetter than he already was. Meanwhile, she had this foreboding thought that the vampiric serial killer who was so good in luring her into the one sin she avoided the most storming out of the door to come and finish what he started with her. The feeling made her want to leave this place and be far away from everything as much as possible.
''Where is…Wish, Ash?'' Haley asked brokenly in-between a muffled sob. Her boyfriend looked a bit triggered at the sound of her name, running his hands through his wet locks in exhaustion and slight fear in his eyes. A pang of guilt settled deep within her throat as she tried not to dwell too deeply on what could have happened if Ash could have succeeded in his move on her. Her best friend is a good person that doesn't deserve to be cheated on. Especially on the girl she pitied the most.
''I don't fucking know, Haley.''
''Wh–what do you mean you do not know?'' The tension only grew thicker around them as they faced each other head on, not minding catching a severe cold under this weather. Wish just stared at the couple behaving in a way she had never seen or imagined seeing before.
Ash and Haley don't have fights. She has never seen them have the slightest disagreement on anything even if it was a playful one. They seemed like those exaggerated pairs made in heaven. So perfect and flawless for each other that the angels would be envious of the friendship and bond they shared. It was like their love was too good for any inconveniences.
''I don't know bitch and that's it. Leave me alone. I just wanna fucking leave this place.''
Wish cringed along with the reaction the heavens gave when Ash dared, for no valid reason at all to call his girl the b word. Wish stared at the eyesore in disbelief as Haley took a quiet pause to process it all. To confirm if she did not just imagine her own boyfriend and probably future husband material calling her a bitch for no absolute reason. She gazed at him with a strong hold on her emotions to see if he would have the decency to apologize, take what he just called her back or even at least calm down because he looked like he was being chased around by a herd of angry mafias.
''Ash…''
''Haley, he didn't mean to say that.'' Wish stepped in before things got worse from there. She held her hands as quick as she could to try and get her to calm down a bit because she resembled one who was edging towards the wall of her limits on how she felt. If not for the rain, the tears in her eyes could have been more noticeable. Haley looked so confused as well as overwhelmed by all that's happening. She didn't know what's worse, knowing that her boyfriend tried to kiss her not too long ago and has been secretly lusting after her all this time or that he might be a douchebag just like Tyler Black or worse.
''Then what did he mean to say because I am so confused right now, Wish.''
They both had a jumpscare when the car's engine roared to life unexpectedly and Ash soaking wet form was behind the wheel waiting for them both to get in. Wish gazed at the asshole in complete disbelief. He just called his girlfriend a bitch and the next was to go home and pretend all these never happened to them.
''Did you…were you able to get that bite mark checked and what did the doctor say?''
Wish managed a faint smile and shook her head that it was nothing worth being stressed about.
''It's just a…silly…weird reaction to something.''
Haley's frown deepened. Wish grew nervous, pushing both her hands inside the pockets of her hoodie.
''All I could say from the examination was…I would be fine. It was nothing being worried about.''
Wish had to drag her back inside the car before she could ask her any more questions about her examination. She opened the door to the passenger seat and guided her inside, placing a hand above her head and closing the door the moment she was settled inside. Wish opened the door to the backseat of the car and paused from entering when that feeling of being stared at intently from afar persists. It made goosebumps erupt all over her skin and nevered her so much.
She wondered if he was going to stand at the window on the third floor of the building and observe her like that; like he wanted to set her ablaze with the fire he carried within him or had the guts to stalk her home and terrorize her the more with his foolish antics of being an undead and she was his fated bride or whatever. Deep down, she wished her running away from him would give His Royal Highness of the undead a good reason to leave her be.
Ash didn't give her enough time to shut the door behind her before he stepped on the gas and sped down the highway like he had just lost his mind.
☆
Truth be told, he did lose his mind.
The drive back home was the coldest and the most intense ride ever. Haley kept her teary gaze on him the entire time, desperate to show him just how affected she was by his strange behavior with her this morning. Maybe a sweet apology or a loving kiss from him would go a long way in changing everything and erasing that scene from her mind forever.
The douchebag only gripped on the steering wheels harder than ever as he sped down the road, leading them all to their death. Even Rufus was frightened by how he merely missed being hit by a truck several times or that the road was just too slippery to be having a mad race on it so carelessly.
He looked so pissed and more so irritated by the silent sobs of the girl he claimed to love the most by his side.
''Would you stop making that sound already? I am trying to concentrate.'' He turned to her briefly in annoyance which only made her friend sob harder and Rufus to bark harder due to the tension circling around them in the car. Wish felt the most choked up because Ash wouldn't stop giving her the 'It's all your damn fault.' look every second he got through the rearview mirror.
It's my fault you didn't get the chance to force a kiss on me and bring more bad karma to my life?
Wish felt like punching one of those trees they moved past.
Or maybe all this tension and unnecessary drama happening now was her fault. If he had his way with her, he would grow more conscience to further his deception on her friend thereby having two birds with one d*ck.
Wish let out a breath while allowing Rufus cuddle on her laps which was the second most uncomfortable thing happening to her but she was the best at enduring no matter what.
''Baby, if you are having a bad day, you can just talk it out with me than doing this to us.''
Wish leaned her head more on her side window. Silence followed after and no one said anything until they by god's mercies reached their estate safely.
