Chapter 4 - Shopping Invitation

Class didn't last long. Chabashira explained some general rules and the use of personal points. She then handed out a rulebook and special phones, which were used by everyone in the school, including teachers. These phones prevented students from contacting anyone outside the school or posting anything on the internet.

Each student in the class received 100,000 points, which were stored on their phones. While his classmates celebrated, Kai held back his laughter. You really think you'll actually get 100,000 points every month? Dream on.

How could they even believe they were valuable enough for the government to pay them 100,000 yen each month for three years, just for attending school? Anyone with a bit of logic could see that something wasn't right. Kai could have pointed this out to his classmates, but he decided not to.

After all, he had no intention of staying in this world for long, so graduating from Class A didn't really matter to him. As for food? He had an infinite supply of French fries and would likely get other things to eat from the Bronze Gacha.

Still, he planned to help in some special exams, because he needed to impress a certain ice queen.

As soon as Chabashira left, Kai stood up and turned to his right, where Horikita was talking to Ayanokoji about something. He decided to join them.

While Ayanokoji and Horikita were engaged in conversation, they heard someone addressing them.

"Hey, you two, want to go shopping for supplies together?"

They turned around to see a boy with messy black hair falling over his striking green eyes, smiling at them.

Horikita frowned. "What do you want?"

Kai looked at her incredulously. "Are you deaf? I asked if you wanted to go shopping together."

Horikita remained unfazed. "And why would you ask us, out of everyone in the class?"

"I'm not sure if you noticed, but I slept through the first class when everyone was forming their friend groups. So, I chose to approach you two, who don't seem to belong to any group and seem interesting."

Horikita was still skeptical. "If you want to befriend people who haven't formed a group yet, why didn't you approach that girl over there?" She pointed at Sakura.

"Oh, her? Do you want her to come shopping with us as well? I can go ask her."

Before Horikita could refute him, Kai turned and started walking toward Sakura.

__________

Kai arrived beside Sakura. "Hi, I'm Shiba Kai. What's your name?"

Sakura twitched at being addressed so suddenly and looked at him nervously. When she saw his friendly smile, she calmed down a little.

"Sakura Airi," she said quietly.

"Oh, what a beautiful name. It really suits a beauty like you."

Sakura looked down, blushing deeply at his praise. For someone as insecure as her, it was unexpected to be suddenly called beautiful.

Kai, ignoring her blush, continued, "So, Sakura, I was wondering if you'd like to go shopping with me and those two over there." He pointed at Horikita and Ayanokoji.

Sakura didn't hear him; she was still blushing, stunned by his compliment.

"Oi, Sakura."

Sakura, hearing someone call her name, looked up to see Kai's face dangerously close to hers. She stepped back slightly, her blush deepening.

"I-I'm sorry, I wasn't listening."

Kai smiled. "It's alright. I was asking if you want to go shopping with me and my friends so we can get to know each other."

Sakura would normally refuse, but for some reason, one even she couldn't explain, she decided to accept his invitation.

"Okay, let me just pack my things."

"Excellent! I'll go get the other two."

__________

Kai went back to where Ayanokoji and Horikita were.

"She agreed to come with us," he said cheerfully.

Horikita looked at him coldly. "When exactly did I agree to go with you?"

"You didn't. But what if I tell you about some school rules in exchange?"

Horikita frowned. Didn't they get a rulebook? She couldn't understand why he thought she would be interested in information that was available to everyone anyway.

As if reading her thoughts, Kai continued, "I'm talking about the rules that aren't in the rulebook. You should have noticed by now that this school isn't ordinary. I can tell you a secret. Only a quarter of students successfully graduate from this school, and the reason for that lies in its hidden rules."

Horikita's interest was piqued, but she remained cautious. "How can I know that you're not lying to me?"

"You can't."

Horikita thought for a moment, then replied, "I'll go with you, but if it turns out you lied, I won't ever talk to you again."

Kai then remembered something.

"I just realized that I never got your names. My name is Shiba Kai, by the way, and you can just call me Kai."

"I'm Horikita Suzune, and I think I'll just call you Shiba. We're not that close," Horikita replied.

Kai decided to ignore Horikita and turned to Ayanokoji.

"My name is Ayanokoji Kiyotaka."

"Oh, so Ayanokoji, you actually can talk. I was starting to think you couldn't since you've been quiet this whole time. You need to learn how to express yourself better, man."

Ayanokoji didn't react.

"See? That's what I'm talking about. Now let's go, Sakura is already waiting for us."

And with that, they went shopping together.
