QUEEN OF CHESS
Never had the maids in the kingdom feel so much zeal to watch the drama unfold. Queen Rachel and queen Lora are having a chess battle? Sweet! Now this two opponents were very smart, to cut to the chase, no one, not even the maids could guess who would win. Standing besides the two queens were four guards as they took their sit at the palace courtyard. The atmosphere was tense, with a strong aura looming all over.
Just then a maid walked in and set the game before them, then turned around swiftly and scurried off. Why were the maids petrified? The answer was obvious, which ever of these two queens loses would be on their neck venting their anger on them. The transquilty, was very keen and Rachel made the first move. She had the experience, the dexterity and of course enough wisdom to smash this game and win.
But hold on, Lora was her opponent. Lora had the knowledge as well as the cunningly tactics to turn the game to her favour. She had the skills, and knew all the tunnels to winning this game, so who was it going to be, the queen of wisdom or the queen of tactics. When Lora made her move, Rachel was stunned for a moment. "You know for a person who always keep to their self I never reckoned you will be this good." Rachel had to commend, definitely there was more to Lora that meets the eye.
"Is that why you look down on everyone? Because you think you are perfect." Lora mocked bluntly, not sparing her a glare but Rachel sidestepped her words and made a shocking move that left Lora stuck. She glared at the game before her, Rachel thought that she was thinking the right move to make, but she was wrong. Actually Lora knew how to turn the game to her favour but she wanted to make a move that would make her victorious once and for all.
"You can call it quits if you want." Rachel taunted her but she scoffed and made a move, but not enough to win Rachel. "My words are sacred, I never go back on them, I started this and I will end it." She retorted reclining on the royal arm chair she was sitting on.
Rachel saw right through her and knew at once that she was determined to win this game. "I will savour this moment for a while, this might be the last time we would ever agree on something." Rachel commented, she made a move which Lora had already predicted.
Lora immediately, made her final move and boom..... "Checkmate! Lora couldn't hide the proudness in her voice, she raised her gaze to stare at Rachel but her face was void of any emotions. What a strong woman, she never lets her weakness, come to light. Rachel's face was neutral as she stared at the game of chess Lora had just won, her prowess has been challenged.
"I expect you to be true to your words, and fulfill your part of the deal." Lora mused standing to her feet, she adjusted her black flowing gown and had the contenance of a dynamic queen. Rachel crossed her legs then shifting her gaze from the game of chess to Lora she pouted her lips. "Which deal, I don't remember concluding any deal with you." She remarked with a crossed tone. Lora eyelashes twitched in exasperation, this woman was messing with her.
"Don't make me laugh Rachel, clearly we made a deal, why else did we play this game in the first place? Lora interrogated, loosing her patience, what was her deal with confusing people. But the truth was that Rachel was being as honest as she could be at that moment, it was Lora that was clearly blinded by her pompous attitude to realize the truth.
"The last thing I remember, was you offering me a deal. I don't recollect me accepting your offer." Rachel said and Lora's string of patient snapped.
"You told me what you wanted if you should win, but I didn't chip in what I wanted if I should win, there was definitely no deal between us." Lora almost staggered frenetically, this woman had just played her, what Rachel said was the truth. If both parties didn't come to an agreement in the first place, there was no deal, even if Lora won, there was no gain.
One of the guards learnt a lot from the occurrence, definitely queen Lora was smart and cunning, but queen Rachel was sagacious. Her wisdom really was something. Lora fumed with anger as she walked away leaving Rachel behind, she had won, but lost at the same time.
Rachel stared at the game of chess for a while, she had watched the way Lora made her moves, vividly scanning her every trick, she had just added to her knowledge and knows how Lora makes her move, she was sure to win her if they ever crossed paths again.
To be candour she had feared that Lora would win her, she knew Lora had skills but still she didn't win. Yes, you heard right, Lora lost to Rachel. From the onset Rachel could have won Lora, infact she had a lot of opportunities to win, the first move she had made could have put Lora off the game, but purposely sidestepped it.
Slouching forward Rachel made her final move, "Checkmate! She slammed. Lora was too exciteLora was too excited to see that Rachel still had a chance to make another move, the guards that were Rachel's escort were bewildered by her act of proximity. They were standing behind her and couldn't contain their stunned expression. Rachel saw this and cautioned. "Not a word should I hear about this", she said in a wary manner and they all nodded.
Her eyes were fearless as her gaze became distant. Rachel didn't let Lora win for no reason, already she had sacrificed her pride, and made her rival seem like the winner, but that was nothing compared to what she wanted in return. If Lora had seen what was coming for her she would never had dared to underestimate Rachel.
Rachel had logically reasoned that if she had allowed her to loose, Lora would hold a strong grudge against her. Then the inevitable would happen, Lora would hate her and keep malice with her for no reason, then how would she be able to get her and carry out her plans? Taking a hold of the glass of wine a maid had just bought, Rachel reclined on the chair and sipped from it. "Well I guess the king is getting his new bride."
The stench of the alcohol Joanna perceived made her scrunch her nose in disgust. She hasn't even entered the room yet but she already felt like turning back, but couldn't her sole aim can't just be obliterated. She yanked the door open, holding a napkin to her nose, she cat walked into William's room with an eagle gaze.
There were a lot of concubines dancing and swaying their waist to the harp a male servant was playing. These dancers were zealous, while dancing seductively. They were maidens sent from all angles just to please William's taste. They all flanked around William trying to get his attention, the latter was drunk, he rides along to any direction he was pushed to, holding a glass of wine in one hand, and the bottle of the wine in his other hand.
Filled with annoyance Joanna walked up to where he was, snatching the glass of wine from his grip, she threw it on the floor and it made a eerie noise while shattering to pieces. The music immediately stopped, immediately the maiden spotted Joanna they scurried out of the room totally horrified.
William was still drunk and was simply not thinking straight, smiling like who was mentally deranged, he continued dancing without any music. Joanna griped his hand tightly, dragging him to where she was she slapped him across his face. William staggered backwards with bloodshot eyes, he was completely sobber and very angry.
"Woman what is your problem? He questioned icily, smacking his lips, Joanna gave him a murderous look and Shaked her head slightly. "If you were my only child I would have go and hang myself." She hissed aloud grabbing a apple and a knife from a fruit vase on a table in the middle of the room.
William scrowled, breathing heavily under his breath, he watched his mother walk up to a golden crafted chair in his room, and sat on it crossing her legs."Why don't you make yourself useful? Look at your sister Sophia, she is already garnering eligible suitors that will make us rich, and here you are wearing time away while exploiting numerous maids." Joanna couldn't hide her disgust, her face was masked with a nauseating contenance.
William clenched his fist in anguish, while gazing at his mother. "You greedy woman, if you love money so much, then why don't you work for it? Joanna snubbed his rude comment and decided to hit the nail on the head. "I want you to be the King of Decreash, is that too much to ask? Immediately Joanna said that William couldn't hold his laughter, much to the annoyance of Joanna he laughed his heart out.
"You want me to be the King? I can see that you are slowly loosing your mind due to greed, why don't you just go ahead and tell me to kill Haron, you greedy woman! He lashed at his mother, but her strong heart could not be penetrated. "If his death will make you the King of Decreash so be it." Joanna couldn't help but feel that she was cheated both in wealth and love, she was ready to kill anyone to at least retain one.
"I will not be a partaker of your venomous ways, leave my room." William pointed at the door but Joanna didn't flinch, she adjusted on the chair she was sitting on, she now had a death gaze as her brown hazel eyes glittered with untold mystery. "You have tested my patience for long enough William, don't push your limits." Joanna gritted her teeth sidestepping his insults wasn't enough, he wants to throw her out of his room?
Joanna foolishness was definitely going to cost her, and William wanted nothing to do with it. He didn't want his story to end with the theme: Like mother like son, no way! William ran his hands through his hair, he wanted to take a shower because his whole body oozed of alcohol.
"Do you think I am a pawn you can use to get your dirty biddings? Mother for once shine your eyes and take a look at your surroundings, be grateful that father accepted you and made you his second wife, or else we would have been on the streets." William tried to talk sense into his mother, but it was futile.
Joanna felt the weight of his words but wouldn't bulge. "I was never ment to be King in the first place, at least father made that clear before he died." William's last word wreaked Joanna's heart into pieces, right there she felt his pain. "Mother..." William started off with a low tone. "Leave! He yelled startling Joanna. Then immediately he started taking off his clothes to have a shower.
Joanna had no choice but to leave, seeing her son's nude would be abominable. Being careful not to step on any broken glass, she walked out of the room with a heavy heart. Getting to her room, she sat on one of the royal golden chair in her commodious room and began to ponder on Williams words.
If Selena hadn't said those words about her past, at the dinning room during breakfast the other day, no one would have known she got married to Harris because he had no choice but to take her in since she was pregnant. All of a sudden Joanna was filled with hatred towards Selena. "You will pay for this Selena, I promise you."
