When Kiko opened her eyes, it was morning.
Looking at Yuta's questioning gaze, Kiko said excitedly, "Chakra control can't improve anymore, it seems to have reached its limit. But Strange Strength seems a little stronger."
"That's good," Yuta thought, estimating the improvement was about half his own. "It's not bad."
After breakfast, Kiko, her excitement subdued, accompanied Yuta to the Senju compound.
"Time to burn youth! Fifteen laps before eight. Fail, and it's twenty more!"
"Morning, Dai. Don't forget my house at nine, for cleaning."
Might Dai, in green tights and a bowl cut, stopped running and gave a thumbs up to Yuta and Kiko.
"Don't worry! That's the promise of youth!" He vanished in a puff of smoke.
Watching Dai leave, Kiko asked, "I can do those jobs. Why send tasks to the village, for Dai only?"
"Who knows?" Yuta said, his narrowed eyes unreadable, and walked on.
Kiko followed, holding her child.
Might Dai was a perpetual genin, enduring ridicule.
Yuta didn't mock him. Dai only knew taijutsu. He was considered useless.
He did occasional C-rank support missions, but mostly stayed in the village.
During peacetime, outside tasks were scarce, leaving Dai with menial jobs.
No one wanted to team up with him, hindering his progress.
Yuta and Hatake Sakumo were elite jonin; Akano was a chunin; and even younger Tsunade was a jonin.
Dai was the only genin, competing with new graduates. Their parents ridiculed him.
In the original timeline, Dai saved Guy, Genma, and Ebisu from the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist. His situation in Konoha was dire.
His training demanded high-quality, large quantities of food.
When he faced hardship, Yuta intervened.
Six years prior, Yuta used his savings to give Dai tasks like chopping wood and cleaning. His finances suffered.
Three years prior, his jonin promotion eased the burden. Even after marrying Kiko, Yuta continued this. Kiko finally asked him why.
As Yuta left Kiko at the Senju compound, an ANBU ninja appeared: Hatake Sakumo.
"Hey! Sakumo, have you eaten?" Yuta asked.
Hatake Sakumo, "Konoha's Twin Stars" with Yuta, looked helpless. "On missions, don't use my name," he whispered.
"Okay, Sakumo, what's up?" Yuta asked, smiling.
"Yeah!" Hatake Sakumo, wary of revealing his ANBU identity, was brief. "Yuta, the Third Hokage summons you to his office!"
He vanished.
Yuta looked at the Hokage Tower and walked there.
…
Yuta knocked on the Hokage's office door.
"Come in," Sarutobi's gentle voice said.
Yuta entered and bowed slightly.
"Third Hokage-sama."
Sarutobi smiled as Yuta entered. "You have more leisure than me, the Hokage. Are you enjoying your rest?"
"Hokage-sama, please get to the point," Yuta said, bypassing the pleasantries.
Sarutobi, unfazed, continued gently, "I'm curious if you'd consider becoming an instructor."
Yuta was puzzled. He had always been a mission ninja.
The conflict between Sarutobi and Danzo wasn't as deep as it would be. Sarutobi still trusted his old friend.
Therefore, joining ANBU required training in the root, which was under Danzo's control. Yuta wasn't willing to risk that.
So, despite Sarutobi's previous offers to join ANBU, Yuta had declined. Since his marriage, the topic hadn't resurfaced.
Sarutobi's sudden offer to lead a team surprised Yuta.
"This idea stems from your current situation. As a team leader, you'd have fewer missions outside the village, allowing you to spend time with your family. Would you like to try?" Sarutobi asked, seeing Yuta's hesitation.
Yuta considered, then said, "Thank you, Hokage-sama, for your consideration."
Sarutobi was relieved. He didn't want Yuta to be an instructor, as it would waste his talent. Since Hatake Sakumo joined ANBU, Yuta had been Konoha's star. Clients often requested him for difficult missions.
However, a graduating student presented a problem.
That student was Uchiha Makoto, son of Uchiha Kagami, on of Tobirama's students.
Because of Kagami's sacrifice, Sarutobi wanted to give Makoto a good teacher. He had planned to train him personally.
However, Danzo objected, arguing that Makoto, being an Uchiha, couldn't be trusted.
Sarutobi abandoned the idea due to political reasons.
He settled on Yuta, who had recently become a father.
Making Uchiha Makoto Yuta's student would eliminate his potential to become Hokage. Konoha's leaders still didn't fully trust Yuta.
Makoto's political future would be compromised.
However, Yuta's strength was undeniable. Konoha's leaders considered him, Hatake Sakumo, and Tsunade the village's future pillars.
With Yuta as his teacher, Uchiha Makoto would be protected.
