Chapter 7 - Chapter 6

"In life there are no easy ways out, there are only short cuts!"

- Seraphina Romano

Sera Romano POV

Walking out on the world of guns and danger isn't easy. Even when no one seems to care you have to do it. The club was built into the restaurant by Rocco, 'The Beast' Moretti. I have no choice but to work under that psycho until I find some place safer.

"Bitch!" A sharp voice reverberated the room. It's the VIP booth with transparent glass windows. The young girl, 15 maybe, looks visibly shaken. She had come from a broken family and Rocco offered her the job out of pity. But now I think he wanted the idea of control over girls like her.

I wanted to storm in there and slap him across the face, but I promised myself I won't involve myself in the affairs of Mafias. Taking in a deep breath, I clean up the table in front of me. Sera, focus on your task, you'll be fine.

A scream of pure terror pierced the silence—glass shattering. Without letting my thoughts consume me, I ran towards it. I can't stand the injustice.

Lisa Castellano POV

Through the whole hour or two or however long it took for him to finally calm down, I stayed with him. I whispered the same mantra over and over again like a lullaby one would say to a child.

He pushes away from me and doesn't say anything. "Thank you," he mumbles before getting up and leaving. The warmth of his body dissipated as I remained there, in the same spot. I guess he's okay now.

As I lounge on the bed that night, a knock comes on the door. "Ma'am he asked me to come get you and that it's urgent."

Seraphina Romano POV

"Are you okay?" I ask her. She's shaking all over and looks scared. Rocco must have left some type of mark on her. It's bad. Really bad.

I gently place my hand on her shoulder and tell her it's okay. She had a huge bruise on her left arm, and it was starting to look a lot bigger than it should be. "Stay here, I'll go get some ice."

As I go to the back end of the big freezer to get her some ice, I don't know how to make things better for her. The poor girl.

Thinking she's followed me I say, "It's okay, I was gonna get you some ice. Don't worry.."

The person didn't reply—an eerie silence fell upon the room—unnaturally thick making my stomach twist into knots. My whole body stood rigidly. I slowly turn and then....

It's him... not the girl. A cold sweat drips down my spine.

Lorenzo Castellano POV

"Marco ask her to get down here now. Tell her it's urgent."

He nods, and doesn't question my orders. The footsteps fade as I adjust my cufflinks, my gaze on my half-drunken whiskey. I clear my throat before getting up, the chair scraping against the marble-tiled flooring.

All kinds of guns and machine guns lined the basement. My expression is neutral, scanning everything in here—making sure nothing goes awry.

Lisa Castellano POV

"Ma'am follow me," Marco says and expects me go with him. Why is Marco telling me to go with him? What's the urgency? I followed him through the hallways and down a different set of stairs.

There's not much light here so I hesitate. "Are you sure about this?"

"When has boss ever led a woman astray?"

Right he is. Or not. Taking a deep breath, I walk down the concrete steps. These steps are different from the rest of the house. I guess they were meant to last. Even a mind like his needs a haven like—my jaw almost drops at the sight.

Several sets of guns, from AK47s to Machine guns are meticulously placed in stacks. Marco goes to stand behind Enzo. "This princess is my world. Guess daddy never let you near a real weapon, huh?"

"Careful, Enzo. I might take one and aim it right at your chest," I reply, crossing my arms against my chest. Marco is stoic as usual. Something flickers inside Enzo's eyes—almost like a fire waiting to ignite or burst into a thousand flames. And I? I wanted to light it.
