Chapter 7 - 7 The Panda’s Rebellion

Okay, here we go!

Buckle up, buttercups, it's about to get weird in here.

Lina, the envoy from the enigmatic Heavenly Secrets Pavilion, swept into the training yard with the grace of a caffeinated swan.

In her hand, she clutched a jade slip that shimmered with an unsettlingly cheerful aura.

"Greetings, disciples of Qingyun Sect!" she announced, her voice like honey drizzled over razor blades.

"Today, we shall be assessing the… purity of your spiritual cores!"

Ethan, who was still trying to master the art of looking busy while doing absolutely nothing, felt a familiar twitch in his left eyebrow.

His "Ridiculous Immortal System" (RIS) was flashing a warning: **"ANCIENT TEXT LOCK DETECTED! COMMENCE OPERATION: 'WTF IS THIS?'"**

Naturally, Ethan, being a master of both procrastination and impulsive decisions, decided to ignore all common sense and "accidentally" activate the system's auto-translation feature.

The symbols on the jade slip warped, rearranged themselves, and then… well, let's just say Ethan was *not* expecting a recipe.

Specifically, a recipe for "Cosmic Tofu Surprise."

He blinked.

Once.

Twice.

Then he glanced around at the other disciples, who were all sweating bullets under Lina's intense gaze.

*They* clearly thought this was some kind of life-or-death spiritual test.

Ethan, on the other hand, was wondering if he had enough soy sauce back in his dorm.

The RIS, never one to miss an opportunity for maximum absurdity, helpfully highlighted a crucial line in the recipe: *"Shape the tofu into the emblem of the organization that seeks to test your spirit."*

Oh, it was *on*.

With the dramatic flair of a reality TV chef revealing his signature dish, Ethan grabbed a block of tofu that had mysteriously appeared on a nearby table (blame the system).

He channeled his inner artist, his inner foodie, and possibly his inner squirrel, and began to sculpt.

The result?

A surprisingly accurate, albeit slightly wobbly, rendition of the Heavenly Secrets Pavilion's logo… in tofu.

Lina's perfectly sculpted eyebrows shot up so high they nearly achieved escape velocity.

Her pupils dilated, not with anger, but with something that looked suspiciously like… awe?

"Remarkable," she breathed, her voice a little less razor-blade-y and a little more… honey-y.

Just then, Sarah, the Qingyun Sect's resident "perfect disciple" and Lucas's personal attack poodle, glided forward with a tray bearing a single cup of tea.

"For you, Esteemed Envoy," she purred, her smile as sweet and genuine as a politician's promise.

Ethan's RIS, however, was screaming a different tune: **"WARNING! WARNING! INDIGESTION IMMINENT! ACTIVATE COUNTERMEASURE: 'NO THANKS, I'M FULL OF… BS!'"**

Reacting purely on instinct (and a deep-seated aversion to anything Sarah offered him), Ethan snatched the cup and, with a flourish that would have made a drunken butterfly proud, flung the contents back at her.

But here's where things got *extra* weird.

The RIS, apparently feeling generous, decided to upgrade Ethan's "Rubber Shield" ability.

The tea, instead of splattering Sarah's pristine robes, froze mid-air, transforming into a cluster of razor-sharp ice shards that promptly nailed her to the wall by the back of her dress.

Sarah yelped, more in surprise than pain.

The other disciples looked like they were about to spontaneously combust from sheer confusion.

Lina, however, simply clapped her hands, her eyes gleaming with a predatory light.

"Excellent! Such… *resourcefulness*! Young man, I believe a private audience is in order. We have much to discuss." She gestured to a lavishly decorated, golden cage-carriage that had materialized at the edge of the yard.

"Come, let us go… admire the flowers."

The 'flowers', Ethan suspected were code to a hidden agenda.

Meanwhile, Mia, still feeling like she'd been run over by a herd of celestial oxen, was trying to make her way to the sect's forbidden underground vault.

She had an awful feeling that the "Qingyun Origin Scroll," a document detailing the sect's deepest secrets, was somehow connected to her own… peculiar condition.

As she stumbled through a dusty passage, a furry, rotund object suddenly rolled out from a pile of dried herbs.

It was Sora, her supposedly-dormant-but-actually-super-powered-panda-like spirit beast.

"Sora!" Mia hissed, trying to shush the creature before it attracted attention.

Too late.

A trio of figures, cloaked in the unmistakable black robes of the Heavenly Secrets Pavilion, emerged from the shadows.

They were clearly looking for something… or someone.

Sora, bless his fluffy heart, decided that the best defense was a good offense.

Or, in his case, a good sneeze.

He let out a mighty "ACHOO!" that sent a cloud of golden spores billowing through the air.

The spores enveloped the three spies, instantly encasing them in shimmering, amber-like cocoons.

Ethan, who had been "escorted" (read: dragged) towards the golden cage-carriage, saw the whole thing.

Seizing the opportunity, he activated his "Drunken Immortal Steps" (which mostly involved tripping, flailing, and somehow ending up where he wanted to be) and snatched a jade token from the belt of one of the frozen spies.

The RIS promptly lit up: **"SPIRITUAL RESONANCE DETECTED! TARGET: MIA! PROXIMITY: UNCOMFORTABLY CLOSE!"**

"Find her," Lina's silky voice cut through the chaos, a hint of steel now lacing the honey.

"And bring her to me."

### The Panda's Rebellion

The dimly lit hall of the Azure Hall was filled with a palpable tension.

Ethan, the once-downtrodden outcast of the Qingyun Sect, stood at the center, trying to make sense of the surreal situation.

Lina, the envoy of the Tianji Pavilion, had arrived under the guise of a selection tournament, but Ethan could sense the ulterior motive behind her polished smile.

Beside him, Sarah, the prodigy of the Qingyun Sect, shifted uncomfortably, her eyes darting between Ethan and the shadows where Lucas lurked.

*Mia*, Ethan thought, *where are you?

* He knew she was somewhere nearby, but he couldn't risk drawing attention to her.

Not with Lina's keen eyes and Lucas's omnipresent influence.

Lina's voice cut through the silence, smooth and calculated.

"Welcome, young Ethan.

The Tianji Pavilion prides itself on identifying and nurturing talent.

Today, we have a special test to assess your potential.

Are you ready?

"

Ethan raised an eyebrow, suppressing a grin.

*Special test, my foot.

* "Sure, I guess.

What do I have to do?

"

Lina's eyes glinted with a hint of amusement.

"Simple.

You must perform a task that will challenge your mind, body, and spirit.

If you succeed, you might just find yourself in the good graces of the Tianji Pavilion.

"

Ethan leaned back, feigning nonchalance.

"And if I fail?

"

Lina's smile widened.

"Then, I'm afraid you'll be facing the consequences.

But I have a feeling you'll do just fine, don't you think?

"

Ethan nodded, his mind racing.

*This is a setup, plain and simple.

But I have a few tricks up my sleeve, thanks to the 'Absurd Path' system.

*

"Alright, Lina.

Let's see what you've got for me.

"

Lucas, who had been watching from the shadows, stepped forward.

His presence was like a cold wind, sending a shiver down Ethan's spine.

"I trust the test will be fair, Lina.

We wouldn't want any… irregularities, now would we?

"

Lina's gaze met Lucas's, and for a moment, the air between them crackled with unspoken tension.

"Of course, Chief Lucas.

Integrity is the foundation of the Tianji Pavilion.

"

Sarah interrupted, her voice laced with nervousness.

"What's the task, Lina?

"

Lina turned to her, her expression softening slightly.

"You, Sarah, will be part of the task.

You will serve as the overseer, ensuring that Ethan follows the rules.

If he fails, you have the authority to intervene.

"

Sarah nodded, her eyes widening as the gravity of her role sank in.

Ethan felt a pang of sympathy for her.

She was just a pawn in a much larger game.

Lina gestured to the center of the hall, where a large, intricately carved stone tablet stood.

"Ethan, your task is to decipher the ancient runes on this tablet and activate its hidden power.

Failure to do so will result in a severe penalty.

Begin.

"

Ethan approached the tablet, his heart racing.

The runes were complex, almost impossible to decipher.

But he had the 'Absurd Path' system on his side.

He closed his eyes, focusing on the system's guidance.

"Remember, Ethan, sometimes the most absurd methods are the most effective," a voice in his head whispered.

Ethan smiled, feeling a surge of confidence.

He placed his hands on the tablet and began to chant a series of nonsensical phrases, his voice growing louder and more confident.

The runes glowed faintly, responding to his words.

Lina watched, her eyes narrowing.

"What is he doing?

"

Sarah, standing a few feet away, looked equally perplexed.

"I've never seen anything like this.

It's… absurd.

"

Lucas's eyes narrowed, his expression darkening.

"Absurd or not, it seems to be working.

The runes are responding.

"

As Ethan continued his bizarre incantation, the tablet's glow intensified.

Suddenly, a deep, rumbling sound filled the hall.

The ground trembled, and a bright light enveloped Ethan, blinding everyone in the room.

When the light faded, a large, fat panda stood beside Ethan, its eyes twinkling with mischief.

Sora, Mia's guardian spirit, had appeared.

Mia, hidden in the shadows, gasped.

*Sora!

No!

*

Lina's eyes widened in shock.

"A spirit beast?

This is… unexpected.

"

Lucas's voice was cold and calculating.

"Very well.

It seems we have more to contend with than we initially thought.

Sarah, summon the guards.

"

Sarah hesitated, torn between her loyalty to Lucas and her growing sense of unease.

"Chief Lucas, I—"

Ethan stepped forward, his voice steady.

"Lina, Lucas, I know what you're up to.

Mia is more than just a simple girl.

She's a key to something much greater.

But I won't let you use her for your own ends.

"

Lina's eyes flashed with a mix of admiration and disdain.

"You have guts, Ethan.

I'll give you that.

But you're playing a dangerous game.

"

Ethan met her gaze, his resolve unshaken.

"I'll do whatever it takes to protect those I care about.

And I have a few tricks up my sleeve.

"

The hall was tense, the air thick with the possibility of conflict.

Lina and Lucas exchanged a glance, their minds racing.

Ethan knew this was just the beginning.

The battle for Mia's safety and the truth behind the Qingyun Sect's downfall was far from over.

And in the shadows, Mia's heart raced, her fate hanging in the balance.

*Let the games begin.*

*It was like watching two cobras sizing each other up before a fight to the death.

Ethan had a feeling things were about to get a whole lot more… interesting.

And he still hadn't figured out how to do the Macarena.

*

*So, there you have it!*

*Is it sufficiently weird?*

*Are there enough squirrels?*

*Should I amp up the karaoke references?

*

*I'm all ears!

(And maybe a little bit tail, because, you know, squirrels…)*

Let me know what you think!
