A flicker of surprise crossed Qin Mu's eyes as he stared at Mo Xiuchen's cold and handsome face. He furrowed his brows before asking, "Xiuchen, are you saying that Cheng Jia might have been arranged by Xiao Wenqing? That she knew you've been searching for the little girl from back then, so she deliberately sent Cheng Jia to impersonate her? Have you discovered something?"
Mo Xiuchen's expression remained indifferent, his half-narrowed eyes carrying a chilling edge. Even the aura surrounding him was colder than the season itself—this was the real him. "That's just my intuition. I haven't found any flaws yet. But Cheng Jia's father won the lottery a year ago, and their whole family moved from H City to G City. The issue might lie there."
With a soft ding, the elevator reached the designated floor, and the doors slowly opened.
As he stepped out of the elevator, Mo Xiuchen instructed Qin Mu to return to work while he headed to the chairman's office to see what his father and Xiao Wenqing wanted with Cheng Jia.
In the luxurious and grand chairman's office, Mo Jingteng and Xiao Wenqing sat on a high-end leather sofa. Cheng Jia stood before them with her head slightly lowered, hands clasped in front of her. She looked both nervous and apprehensive.
Upon hearing the door open, Cheng Jia lifted her gaze toward the entrance. When she saw that it was Mo Xiuchen, her eyes lit up for a moment, but a look of grievance quickly flashed across her face before she concealed it. In a soft and gentle voice, she greeted, "Young Master Mo."
Mo Xiuchen's eyes darkened as he stepped into the office.
Mo Jingteng and Xiao Wenqing also looked up at him. As he approached, Mo Jingteng said calmly, "Xiuchen, you came at the right time. Your aunt and I were just asking Cheng Jia about the events from back then, but she doesn't remember anything."
Xiao Wenqing smiled slightly, her gaze affectionate as she looked at Mo Xiuchen. She seemed completely unfazed by his cold demeanor. Picking up where Mo Jingteng left off, she asked gently, "Xiuchen, are you sure Cheng Jia is really the little girl who saved you back then?"
Mo Xiuchen's gaze turned icy as he glanced at Cheng Jia. She was biting her lip, her expression full of suppressed grievance. He frowned slightly, then ignored Mo Jingteng and Xiao Wenqing's question and instead told Cheng Jia, "Go back to work."
Cheng Jia nodded, then looked toward Mo Jingteng and Xiao Wenqing as if summoning her courage before saying, "Chairman, Madam, I really don't remember anything from my childhood. If you think I took a job at Nanqin Hotel just to get close to Young Master Mo, then I'll resign immediately."
Mo Xiuchen's expression grew even colder. He said in a firm tone, "There's no need for you to resign. Go back and hand over your work. Starting tomorrow, report directly to the head office."
"Xiuchen, are you certain she's the girl from back then?"
Mo Jingteng's face darkened slightly. Beside him, Xiao Wenqing immediately tried to smooth things over, saying, "Jingteng, since Cheng Jia said Xiuchen was the one who found her, then he must be sure. Let's not make things difficult for the girl."
She stood up and took a few steps forward, gently holding Cheng Jia's hand. "Miss Cheng, our questions just now may have been a bit too direct. Please don't take them to heart. We weren't trying to make things difficult for you—we just wanted to clarify the situation."
Cheng Jia shook her head and withdrew her hand. "It's understandable for you and the chairman to have doubts. When I was six, I had a serious illness and forgot everything from before. So I truly couldn't answer your questions just now."
Xiao Wenqing nodded and then looked at Mo Xiuchen again, suggesting, "Xiuchen, since you're sure Miss Cheng is the girl who saved you back then, why don't we invite her over for a meal this weekend? Jingteng, what do you think?"
Mo Jingteng had always followed Xiao Wenqing's wishes without question. He immediately agreed, "Sure. It just so happens that this weekend is your birthday. Let's have Miss Cheng over for a meal. We should also invite Wen Ran—after all, you two have been married for some time, and you still haven't visited home."
