Chapter 41 - The Mo Family Needs an Heir

Mo Zixuan gritted his teeth and said, "I will find out who did it!"

The angrier he got, the better Mo Xiuchen felt. The smile on his lips widened slightly, and he said cheerfully, "I'll be waiting for the day you uncover the truth."

"Zixuan, if Zhou Lin is really carrying your child, that's a good thing. Your father and I have been hoping for a grandchild. Our Mo family needs an heir. As for Wen Ran, she's already married to your brother. She is your sister-in-law now. Even if you loved her before, you need to let her go."

Xiao Wenqing spoke earnestly, but her words carried a hidden implication—that Mo Xiuchen was incapable of producing an heir.

Mo Zixuan was no fool. His mother's words made him realize her true meaning. His expression turned cold as he said, "I can continue the Mo family line, but who I marry is my decision."

Then, turning to Mo Xiuchen, he sneered, "You'd better make sure Wen Ran stays a widow for the rest of her life."

"Zixuan!"

Mo Jingteng immediately reprimanded him, his voice deep and serious. He felt exhausted—he was getting too old to handle the constant conflicts and hostility between his two sons.

"Zixuan, don't speak to your brother like that. He didn't choose to have this… 'condition,'" Xiao Wenqing said, deliberately emphasizing the word "condition," adding fuel to the fire rather than defusing the tension.

Unfortunately, Mo Xiuchen didn't react at all. His expression remained unchanged, as if their ridicule wasn't directed at him.

Instead, the only one who appeared awkward was Cheng Jia, who had been listening to all the family drama. After speaking, Xiao Wenqing seemed to realize that Cheng Jia was still in the room and turned to her. "Miss Cheng, you should return to work now."

Cheng Jia glanced at Mo Xiuchen, responded with a quick "Alright," and turned to leave.

As he watched her walk away, a dark glint flashed in Mo Xiuchen's eyes. Though he hadn't looked directly at Cheng Jia, he had noticed from the corner of his eye that, aside from some awkwardness, she didn't seem surprised or show any other emotions.

"If there's nothing else, I'll be heading back to my office," Mo Xiuchen said flatly once Cheng Jia had left. Without waiting for a response, he turned to leave.

"Xiuchen, wait a moment."

Mo Jingteng's expression shifted slightly as he called after him.

Mo Xiuchen had only taken one step when he heard his father's voice. He turned back, his gaze cold and indifferent.

Mo Jingteng hesitated for a moment. Facing his son's aloofness, he ultimately changed his words. "Is everything in H City taken care of?"

Mo Xiuchen let out a short, dismissive scoff through his nose as an answer. Just then, his phone rang. Without another word, he turned and strode out of the office.

When Wen Ran came out of the restroom, she ran into Zhou Lin. Zhou Lin had just finished a phone call and was putting her phone back into her bag. Upon seeing Wen Ran, she immediately beamed with excitement. "Ranran, I have great news for you! I just got a call from Zixuan—he invited me to his family's house for dinner. He said they want to discuss our wedding plans!"

"Is that so? Congratulations."

Wen Ran furrowed her brows slightly, responding with a perfunctory tone.

Zhou Lin didn't seem to notice Wen Ran's lack of enthusiasm and continued excitedly, "Ranran, I heard that the Mo family also invited the girl who saved Mo Xiuchen all those years ago—someone named Cheng Jia. You'll be there that night too, right?"

Wen Ran's heart skipped a beat. Cheng Jia was also invited to the Mo family dinner? She hadn't known about that—Mo Xiuchen hadn't mentioned it to her. The only thing she knew was that this weekend was Mo Xiuchen's birthday.

She had seen his ID card on the day they registered their marriage.
