Chapter 5 - Are you not afraid?

Wen Ran responded with an "Oh," signaling that the topic couldn't continue further. Seeing his indifferent expression and lack of willingness to converse, she thought for a moment and then explained, "Next time I see Mo Zixuan, I'll avoid him—take a detour."

At that, Mo Xiuchen finally turned his head. His deep, sharp eyes paused on her face for half a second before he looked away without a word.

He really was on a business trip this morning. He was supposed to return in a few days, but at noon, he received a call from Qin Mu who relayed the conversation between Wen Ran and Zhou Mingfu. Qin Mu mentioned that she had actually defended his 'male dignity' and added that Zhou Mingfu surely wouldn't let it go.

In a fit of heated impulse, he changed his decision and flew back in the afternoon!

Wen Ran noticed him glance at her, then turn away without a word, as if he didn't believe her. Pursing her lips, her voice grew firmer: "I'm telling the truth—marrying you means I won't be entangled with any other man."

"A lifetime of living as a widow, aren't you afraid?"

Mo Xiuchen suddenly slowed the car and turned his head, his piercing gaze fixed on her as if trying to peer into her heart.

Yesterday, he had come to see her and offered to help her father's company overcome its difficulties on the condition that, when she married him, they wouldn't discuss this topic. At that moment, as she was being harassed by a group of suppliers, she agreed without much thought.

Wen Ran's eyes flickered with surprise; she was a bit taken aback that Mo Xiuchen would bring this up himself.

Although it was widely rumored throughout G City that he was incapable of intimacy, matters of pride and dignity matter to any man.

Looking at his lightly pursed thin lips and his cold, handsome profile, she kindly thought that if he truly had that "condition," he must be suffering inside.

With that in mind, her gaze softened and she spoke in a gentle, soothing tone:

"What is there to fear? There are many couples in this world who live happily without sex. Since I married you, I will faithfully fulfill my role as a wife and work hard to be a good one. You can rest assured."

She wasn't an ungrateful person; although their marriage was one of mutual need, her parents had taught her from an early age to be honest and kind.

Mo Xiuchen suddenly smiled slyly!

He watched Wen Ran through the rearview mirror. On her delicate face, she looked earnest, her eyes filled with determination—as if she were afraid he wouldn't believe her.

Yet her words were soft and gentle, carrying a subtle note of reassurance.

For some reason, he found himself believing her—that her promise would be kept—and a long-forgotten warmth flickered through his heart.

Wen Ran was momentarily disoriented by Mo Xiuchen's smile. This man, with a face that could captivate anyone, possessed deep, sharply defined features; when he smiled, the cold edge in his demeanor softened, revealing a noble elegance that stole one's breath away.

Moved by his charm, a smile began to play in her clear eyes, and her tone lightened as she said, "So you're not angry about what happened earlier, are you?"

After that, the atmosphere seemed to improve significantly. Although Mo Xiuchen spoke little, Wen Ran talked a lot, actively initiating conversation with him. Before she knew it, they had arrived at her home.

Before getting out of the car, out of courtesy, Wen Ran politely asked, "Would you like to come in for a cup of water, or would you prefer to wait here while I fix my clothes?"

No sooner had her words faded than Mo Xiuchen's phone rang. He unbuckled his seatbelt, lowered his head to retrieve his phone, and his thin lips softly uttered three words:
