Chapter 19 - Shadows Of The Past

It was Tracy's call that woke up Jayden this morning. Since they were both scared of her father tracking and eavesdropping on her call, they secretly got an encrypted SIM to cover up their tracks and easily communicate without fear.

Although the information Tracy gave her is what she should be happy about, she didn't know why she had this bad feeling in her heart; she kept feeling like she was missing something but didn't know what. She sighed, remembering Tracy said the agency she contacted already informed her they'd seen someone who is 75% similar to her.

She was quite grateful for this, as it's not an easy task for someone who is similar in appearance to anybody.

It was at this point she realised that security around her seemed to have changed again; indeed, her father does not seem to want to give her a way out at all, or else why would she feel like a thousand hidden eyes are watching her movement?

She walked to the window blind and pulled it up. She stood there looking at those tall buildings that surround her apartment; she felt terrible knowing that once she made an attempt to step outside, information would have surely reached her father.

How is this different from grounding? Because why should she be this worried even in her apartment? Some minutes passed, then she made a frustrating sound before walking away from the window, silently to the refrigerator, took a glass cup, then filled it with cold water.

She walked back to the sofa, placed herself in a comfortable position and sipped the water in her hand in an attempt to calm down. She knew calling her parents at this point would only make matters worse; she had to lay low for them not to suspect anything.

Now that the issue of getting someone has been resolved, she thinks it'll be more effective if they could get a professional makeup artist that is proficient in the art.

The makeup artist will be in charge of upgrading the person's look from 75% to 100% for them to have a flawless plan. Also on the surface, she had to let the person know some things about her to prevent any change in plans, especially when it comes to the matters of the company.

She stood up and walked towards her bed, raising it up, and then she bent herself a little, using her hand to feel around a bit as if she was looking for something. After some minutes, she revealed a smile of someone who got what she was looking for and brought out some things.

After reassembling everything, it suddenly turned into a safe! A hidden safe! She reveals a sad smile, then unlocks the box and brings out an old-looking phone, then dials a single contact that's on it.

Holding the phone and dialling the number, she herself didn't know how she was feeling because how many years had it been? Yet everything still felt like yesterday. She was so lost in thought that she didn't realise the other end had picked up the call.

Hello? Comes a gentle and ethereal voice from the other end of the phone, Who is this, and how may I help you? The voice seems to be shocked and in doubt of who it might be, though there is only one person that could use this contact to call him.

It's me. Jayden said in an almost shaken voice, Need some help from you. If you can do it for me, I'll try to forgive and let go of everything that happened in the past.

The person was somehow speechless; he couldn't believe his ears. Does she mean what she's saying, or is this just an antic to get back at him? Anyway, who cares? She had the right to say anything.

What do you want me to help with? I'm all ears. The person said.

Nothing much; I just need you to arrange a professional makeup artist that's proficient in the art of disguise and also someone skilled who can get anyone out of the country without being caught. I hope that's not too much to ask.

It isn't. The man was dumbfounded by her request that he almost asked her what she was going through for her to have such a request. Was there any difficulty she was going through? But he knew he had already lost such a chance years ago.

You can just forward the address you'll want them to come to; I'll get someone to arrange everything. The man said

Alright. I'll forward it once it's decided then, but I won't be saying any thank you; you owe me more than this. Jayden said and decisively hung up.

Now that she's no longer on call with that person, she felt as if a huge pressure was removed from her, but she also felt the weight of a trailer crushing her heart, and she found it difficult to breathe, sweating profusely while trying her best to deny the fact that she took the initiative to call that person.

If not that she doesn't have an option, she really doesn't want to call the person; he made her feel sick all over, reopening her never-healing wound and reminding her of the past she's trying hard to let go of.

She understood the fact that she couldn't keep wallowing in regret; she could only pick up her broken self, licking her wound alone like a lone stray dog desperately in need of a warm home that could warm her already cold heart, a place she could refer to as her safe abode.

But life isn't a bed of roses; it isn't always fair to anyone. It's just that when life hands you lemons, you make grape juice out of it. Reality is bitter, so you just have to make it as sweet as possible.

No matter how difficult this escape might be, she'll make sure to do everything she can to leave this hell-like place; she just couldn't tell when yet.

Not wanting to keep beating herself up, she had a lot of hard work to do before this plan could be effective.

She picked up the phone with the encrypted SIM and texted Tracy to look for an inconspicuous location where they could meet and also for those people coming.

She didn't want to take any gamble regarding her plan, or else there should not have been any need for a makeup artist since the person has a similar appearance to her, but that's her parent she's trying to fool, so everything has to be nearly perfect, if not perfect.
