CHAPTER 5
"I'm just kidding." Kira took it back. "You know me, love. I don't ever rebel." Brianna, don't. Maybe. Kira, always.
She wished this man could be more assertive and a rebel on his own to say that they should just really skip the reception and keep her inside a room already. She was thinking that she would be full just by eating him.
Fuck. Maniac much, Kira? Hmm. Only a little.
Dom was thinking that Brianna must've really had her head affected by her accident. He had to be patient with her strange behavior. He smiled politely at her. "Come on, wife. Let's get into the car." He guided her towards the limo she came with earlier, and they got inside. He noticed that the partition was down.
Her gorgeous gown was taking up some space inside. But she looked so damn perfect in it. His princess. Now queen. A gentle queen for his kingdom. He grew up with her and was lured by her light. Her caring and sweet persona was a contrast to his dark one that he kept inside. She was what he needed. His total opposite.
"Are you okay?" He pulled her to his side and pushed her veil all the way to the back of her head. "Are you feeling tired?"
"Can you take it off my hair? The pins are hurting my scalp; please." She asked politely with a little girly voice that she was trying to master. Brianna's voice was girlish but wasn't high-pitched in that annoying way to the ear. It was just a fine woman with elegance even in her tone. As for Kira, her voice was a little gruff, deeper, and sultry.
"Of course." His expression softened. What was he thinking? He was glad that he didn't proceed with his plan back then when he was still in the camp.
His hands carefully took off the bobby pins on her head and the veil. Brianna gathered the long organza and put it at the side, along the bundle of roses that she was holding.
"I thought you didn't want roses as your wedding flower." He asked with a straight face.
Kira furrowed her brows in confusion. "Did I say something like that?" She blinked and looked away with worry. "I can't remember. So, I changed it into roses because of their beauty." She smiled as she remembered something. "The organizers like it too, for it suits the fairytale theme better."
She doesn't know a single thing about what Brianna and this man talked about regarding their preferences for the wedding. And she had no idea if Dom was saying the truth or if it was just a trick to feed the doubt in his mind. She may not like the idea of being a con artist, but she knew what to do and what to say in situations of uncertainty. Acting daft had its benefits sometimes, or maybe most of the time.
"And I'm fine, by the way." She slid closer, and Dom wrapped an arm around her. "Thank you for asking."
He looked down on her, and she noticed that his eyes strayed to her cleavage. The tube top was pushing her boobies up. She could hardly breathe from the bodice, but she had to go along with everything. The wedding gown was too tight for her extra muscles. She had a firm, toned body that just wouldn't simply adjust to the dress. But it looked perfect as it accentuated her curves more.
She took a huge, slightly painful breath. Regardless of anything, she couldn't stay long in her gown. She felt a little suffocated and wanted to take it off already. She looked up at him. She had to strike up a conversation. As far as she'd known, this man was quite reserved.
"How was your business trip?" He went abroad these past few days for a meeting with a client and to welcome him back to their family business track.
He paused for a second, as if remembering something, and there was a stunning glint in his eyes. "Interesting."
"Really? How so? Care to tell me what's interesting about it?"
Dom slightly tilted his head away to look at her. "Are you sure you want to listen? It could be boring to you."
"Hmm… Why not? Besides, it's time that I should have extra knowledge about my husband's job. Don't you think?" She propped a hand on his solid chest. She felt the warmth even through the fabric.
She already had the idea of what Dominick McIntyre's business was. He owned Domstate Buildings. A high-end condominium tower that had countless branches nationwide and worldwide. He was the sole owner of it and the founder. It was different from the whole McIntyre family business empire. Their main legacy came from the trading industry. But Dom wanted to make his own, and his family supported him at a young age. He was now 30 and considered one of the youngest billionaire bachelors in the continent.
Yeah. It was actually a bit boring, but the billions or trillions he had were not. Never.
She had been to one of his buildings before at the other side of the world. Only for a brief time for her contract.
"Remember the issue with one of my properties abroad? The one that a thief succeeded in breaking into?"
She froze for a moment and almost choked on her own saliva. Her heart pounded louder in her ears, and she felt more suffocated than before. She tried to breathe through her nose calmly to maintain her soft expression.
"Yeah? Why? I thought that case was already closed?"
"No. The thief could have gotten past my property but not past me. Now that I'm finally back to handle matters on my own, I'd like to get to the bottom of the things. And I'd catch that expert thief that no cops were able to find anything about. That's the interesting part. He or she is not an ordinary thief." His eyes were even twinkling while telling her.
"But that was almost two years ago. The victim was already compensated, right?"
Dom sighed and smiled at her. "Love, there are some things you better not know to not complicate things in your mind. Don't you think about it anymore. Leave this matter to me." He put a finger to her chin and lifted her face up. He placed a kiss on her forehead.
How could she rest the matter if Brianna's husband, her temporary husband, was out to get her? Because she was that freaking thief.
"Then what would you do if you caught her or him?"
His lips quirked to the side with a promise of something sinister. "It's better you not dwell your innocent mind on it."
Oh, that's the very mistake you'd be making. Underestimating this sweet, gentle Brianna.
She gave him a small smile, and Dom lowered his face to capture her lips.
He was lured to kiss her as she looked at him like that. Her grayish blue eyes were so different than the vibrant blue she had before. It made him think that she could be wearing contact lenses. He wished it wasn't the case because he liked them better now.
