Chapter 58 - Chapter 58: Hypocrisy and Truth, the Hidden Abyss

In the darkness, time seemed to stand still. The oppressive feeling in the air grew stronger and stronger. Kalle and Darlene clung closely to each other, and different emotions flickered in their eyes—tenacity, fear, doubt, but more importantly, a sense of unwillingness and the will to resist. They stood on the edge of a collapsing cliff, facing an unknown destiny.

In front of them, the man in black still didn't relax his vigilance. He didn't make another move but stood there quietly, his gaze cold and sharp, as if he could see through everything, yet it was impossible to fathom his true intentions.

"Do you think you can defeat me?" The man in black laughed softly, a trace of disdain in his tone. "You're just a speck of dust in the game, and you'll never be able to change the order of this world."

Kalle's brows furrowed tightly, and his mind was in chaos. The man in black's words made it impossible for him to calm down. He clearly knew that what he was facing was not just a person but an invisible force that had already seeped into their lives and their destinies.

"You're right." Kalle replied coldly. "We're just dust, but precisely because we're dust, we disdain to be bound by the order of this world."

A hint of disdainful smile flashed in the man in black's eyes, as if he didn't take Kalle's words seriously at all.

"However," Kalle suddenly changed the tone of his voice, "you're wrong. The so-called 'order' you speak of will eventually collapse because it doesn't hold up in the first place."

The man in black's eyes froze for a moment, and then he laughed out loud. "Is that so? What do you think you can change? Even if you change your destiny, so what?"

Kalle slowly closed his eyes and took a deep breath. "Each of us lives through making choices. If we give up on choosing, we're no longer human."

Darlene tightly held Kalle's hand, determination shining in her eyes. "We'll go on together and challenge all of this."

However, the man in black's expression suddenly turned grim. The corners of his mouth gradually curled into a sinister smile. "Do you really think you can escape?" He slowly opened his mouth, his gaze turning as cold as frost. "The reason I didn't act immediately is that you don't deserve to know the truth of this world yet."

"The truth?" Darlene couldn't help but speak up, her eyes filled with doubt and anger. "What exactly are you hiding?"

The man in black didn't answer. Instead, he gave them a deep look, then turned around and disappeared into the darkness, leaving a chill lingering in the hearts of the two of them.

Everything seemed to have entered a new situation. Kalle and Darlene looked at each other, their hearts filled with doubts. They knew that the truth they were pursuing was far more complicated than what met the eye. And the man in black was undoubtedly a key figure in this game, but he also didn't seem to be as simple as he appeared on the surface.

"We must find the truth." Kalle said in a low voice, a resolute light shining in his eyes. "No matter

what the man in black is hiding, we can't stay silent any longer."

"I know." Darlene nodded, her voice firm. "But we also have to be careful. The man in black seems to be deliberately leading us towards an abyss from which there's no turning back."

The two walked side by side towards an unknown future. The air was still low, as if everything was hidden beneath layers of fog. Kalle's mood became even heavier, and Darlene's eyes were no longer as relaxed.

However, their footsteps didn't stop. Just as the two were about to leave the place, suddenly, a slight sound broke the silence. Kalle instinctively turned around and scanned the surroundings with sharp eyes.

"Who's there?" Kalle asked in a low voice, gripping his weapon alertly.

From the shadows, a figure emerged. It was a young man dressed in white, with a delicate face and an inexplicable sense of familiarity in his eyes. Kalle didn't recognize this person at first, but his intuition told him that this person might play a crucial role in the current situation.

"You two, long time no see." The young man's voice was low, and his tone carried a complex emotion.

Kalle's heart jolted violently, and he suddenly stopped in his tracks. This voice seemed to have traveled through the tunnel of time, carrying a trace of long-lost memories.

"Who are you?" Kalle's voice trembled slightly, as if he couldn't believe what he heard.

The young man smiled slightly and gently lifted the mask on his head, revealing a familiar face. That face once belonged to Kalle's closest comrade—Lucas.

"Lucas?" Kalle's voice became low. It was hard for him to believe that the person in front of him was his former friend.

Lucas nodded slightly, a trace of complex emotion showing in his eyes. "Yes, it's me. You thought I was dead, but in fact, I just entered another world, another world that you can't understand."

Kalle felt his mind in a mess. Lucas's death had been a pain in the hearts of all of them, an inescapable wound in this undercurrent of struggle. But at this moment, Lucas in front of him was telling him that things were not as they seemed.

"How did you survive? What exactly are you hiding?" Kalle asked eagerly, with a mixture of various emotions surging in his heart.

Lucas's gaze became even deeper. "The truth you've been searching for lies within me. The enemy you've always thought of might not be the real enemy. And the thing you've always wanted to destroy might bring you the greatest redemption."

Kalle was stunned, and the doubts and questions in his heart grew even stronger. Lucas in front of him seemed to know more secrets than they did, and these secrets were enough to completely overturn their world.

"What exactly do you want to tell us?" There was a hint of unease in Darlene's voice. She felt that this suddenly appearing Lucas was not exactly the person they used to know.

Lucas didn't answer immediately. Instead, he smiled softly. "I hope you can understand that the truth is more complicated than you imagine. We're not simply enemies and allies. Even at certain moments, our choices might even subvert each other."

After saying these words, he turned around and disappeared into the night, leaving behind an endless cloud of doubt.

Kalle and Darlene stood there, unable to move for a long time. Their hearts were filled with countless questions. Lucas's appearance seemed to push everything in an unforeseeable direction.

"We've been kept in the dark." Kalle said in a low voice, his tone full of helplessness and anger.

"Yes," A trace of anger also flashed in Darlene's eyes. "But this also means that our struggle has just begun."

At this moment, the fog in the darkness grew even thicker. Endless confusion and determination surged in Kalle and Darlene's hearts. Next, what they would face would not just be the choice between the man in black and their destiny but the final showdown regarding the truth. And this truth would determine the future of all of them—whether to choose to uncover all the veils or to continue moving forward in the fog.
