Chapter 12 - Chapter 12 Enshrouded in Mysterious Mist

Kalle, Allen, and the woman made their way through the dense forest. The mottled moonlight sprinkled on them. The air was moist, and it was quiet all around, as if waiting for some sudden turn of events. Although they had already distanced themselves from the trail of the shadow beasts, that intangible sense of oppression still hung over Kalle's heart. The wolf nature in his heart grew stronger and stronger. Every breath carried a surging force, and that force seemed to be increasingly incompatible with his body.

Allen walked ahead, often showing curiosity about this forest in his eyes, while the woman remained vigilant, constantly paying attention to the movements around them. Kalle would look back from time to time, and the doubts and unease in his mind accumulated more and more.

"Kalle, should we find a place to rest?" The woman's voice broke the silence.

Kalle looked at her. A trace of hesitation flashed in his eyes, but he finally nodded. "We need to take a break for a while. After all, tonight's battle consumed a lot of our physical strength." He stopped and looked around. "It should be safe here. Let's stop for now."

The woman nodded and began to clear an open area. Kalle, on the other hand, lowered his head to wipe his short dagger, and the figure of that silver wolf still lingered in his mind. Its appearance, although it had saved them, had also brought more questions. Why did it appear at this moment? Who on earth sent it? Kalle vaguely felt that there seemed to be a greater force manipulating everything behind the scenes.

Allen sat on the ground and looked at Kalle's back. Suddenly, he asked, "Brother, why have we encountered so many monsters? We just wanted to find a safe place." His voice carried a trace of fatigue and helplessness.

Kalle didn't answer immediately. He just slowly turned around, sat beside Allen, and stroked his hair. "In this world, danger and challenges always accompany us. But as long as we have hope in our hearts, we will definitely be able to make it to the end."

Allen blinked his eyes. He seemed to understand a bit, but not completely. He leaned gently against Kalle, closed his eyes, and rested quietly. Kalle had a profound gaze, but his heart couldn't be at peace for a long time.

As night fell, a thick mist filled the air, and the moonlight was almost completely obscured.

Just as Kalle was lost in thought, the woman suddenly stood up, and alertness flashed in her eyes. "Something's not right. There's something wrong here."

Kalle suddenly stood up and quickly scanned the surroundings alertly. He found that the trees around them seemed to be somewhat distorted, as if they had been twisted under the influence of some force. The mist was so thick that it seemed almost solid, gradually isolating them from the outside world.

"Haze?" Kalle asked in a low voice.

"This is the Mysterious Mist," the woman replied, her voice serious. "This forest is already full of a mysterious aura, but the Mysterious Mist is the most terrifying existence. It will make people lose their way and allow those ill-intentioned creatures to enter your world."

"What do you mean?" Kalle frowned, feeling uneasy in his heart.

"We're trapped here," the woman said softly. "This kind of mist not only prevents us from distinguishing our direction but also allows the enemies in the forest to track our scent."

"Enemies?" Kalle's heart suddenly skipped a beat, as if something was quietly approaching.

Suddenly, a strange whispering sound pierced through the mist, as if it was coming from all directions. It was distant and eerie, making one's hair stand on end. Allen suddenly opened his eyes and tightly grasped Kalle's hand, his eyes full of fear. "Brother, I heard a sound..."

Kalle's heart jolted, and he said in a low voice, "Don't be afraid, Allen. Close your eyes and don't look at anything." As he spoke, he quickly drew out his short dagger, looked around, and his alertness suddenly increased.

The whispering sound in the mist became clearer and clearer, carrying a suffocating sense of oppression.

"Do you hear it?" The woman's voice carried a trace of tension. "These voices are... human voices?" She looked at Kalle, her eyes full of doubt and vigilance. "Someone is following us."

"We must leave," Kalle's eyes were cold. He could no longer take this lightly. He began to walk into the mist, and the woman and Allen followed closely behind.

However, no matter how far they walked, that whispering sound always lingered in their ears, becoming lower and more ancient, as if some evil force was quietly approaching.

Suddenly, a strange figure flashed in the mist, and Kalle's heart jolted.

He suddenly looked back and found that the figure loomed in the mist, carrying a strange light. He gripped the short dagger tightly and said in a low voice to the woman, "Be careful. There's an enemy."

The woman alertly drew out her short dagger, ready to fight. And Allen closely followed behind them, his eyes full of fear, but he was powerless to resist.

Kalle suddenly stopped, his body tensed up, and his eyes stared straight ahead. "Come out. You can't hide anymore."

With his voice, the figure finally emerged, revealing a pale face with a deathly and cold expression. It was a young man wearing a tattered cloak, his face covered with scars. His lips moved slightly, and the whispering sound that they had heard earlier came from his mouth.

"Who are you?" Kalle's voice was cold, and his short dagger was slightly raised.

The man slowly raised his head, and a strange light flashed in his eyes. "Who am I? Hehe, you don't need to know. You've intruded into this place, and you're destined to become a part of us."

"Us?" Kalle's heart froze, and he looked at the man sharply. "What on earth are you?"

"We are the guardians of the Mysterious Mist," the man said slowly, his voice low and eerie. "The power of this forest has awakened. Any intruder will become a part of it and become its prey."

As soon as the words were out, the man's body suddenly transformed, quickly twisting into a mass of black mist and pouncing towards Kalle. Kalle suddenly swung his knife, and the short dagger cut through the air, making a sharp sound. But the black mist dissipated in the air, as if it had no physical form at all.

"If you want to kill me, you have to have the ability," the man's voice came again, as if it was coming from all directions and getting closer and closer.

There was a cold glint in Kalle's eyes. Suddenly, he rushed forward, and the light of the knife cut through the air, colliding fiercely with the power of the black mist.

"Kalle, be careful!" The woman shouted, but there was no way to stop Kalle's impulsive action. She drew out her short dagger, ready to fight side by side with him.

However, just as Kalle was about to come into contact with that black mist, a silver light suddenly flashed. The silver wolf appeared in front of them again. It let out a low growl and pounced fiercely on the mass of black mist.

"It's it!" The woman exclaimed in surprise.

The silver wolf intertwined with the black mist, releasing a brilliant light that instantly illuminated the surroundings. The black mist twisted violently, as if it was being suppressed by some irresistible force. It let out a shrill scream and finally dissipated into the air.

The silver wolf returned to its original form, let out a low growl, and turned to look at Kalle.

Kalle's heart jolted, and he finally let out a sigh of relief. He knew that they had temporarily escaped the crisis, but that uneasy feeling in his heart still hadn't dissipated. He looked at the silver wolf, filled with gratitude, but also full of questions.

"Thank you," Kalle said softly.

The silver wolf let out another low growl, as if responding to Kalle.

"We still have to keep moving forward."

Kalle took a deep breath, turned around, and walked towards the depths of the mist, with the woman and Allen following behind him. The silver wolf disappeared into the darkness again, as if it had never appeared.

The forest was still gloomy and terrifying, and in the depths of the mist, it seemed that there were deeper secrets hidden.
