Kiyoshi set his gear down by the entrance, rolling his shoulders to shake off the lingering tension from his mission. The quiet of his home wrapped around him like a familiar blanket—welcoming, yet also reminding him of its emptiness. He was used to it by now, but some nights, it still felt heavier than others.
He moved to the small kitchen, filled a glass with water, and leaned against the counter. His conversation with Shigeru replayed in his mind, especially the mention of his aunt. He had been meaning to visit, but time had slipped away between missions and training. Maybe that was just an excuse.
