Chapter 12 - Caught?

'Adonis' slipped in through the impossibly small crack like a drop of water, as if he did not have a single bone in his body.

Yet when 'he' came out of the other side, he appeared perfectly fine, all his features fully restored, solid and sturdy.

And the same thing happened with the broken metallic fragments of the artifact, melting away even though it should have been extremely firm and robust, and then reemerging just like before.

This tentacle had some mastery over subspace, allowing it to access far greater volume within space-time than what would appear 'normal' to the normal eye.

Successfully reconstituting himself, the 'boy' let out a hearty laughter, gleefully taking in the sights.

The insides of that silvery, flesh covered door was completely different from the exterior, pristinely clean with sleek metallic walls and floors void of any visible seams, screws, or joints. The entire place was illuminated by soft white fluorescent lights embedded flawlessly around the ceiling, and the whole place smelt of clean, fresh air.

This was the inside of a crashed futuristic 'alien' spaceship.

"Hahaha, finally! I never thought I would miss this damned place so much!" 'Adonis' let out an uproarious laugh at his own success, almost tearing up at the thought of all the efforts it had expended to try and get in here.

At one point it had even almost given up hope.

But it seemed fate had not given up on it.

Thus without further ado, it quickly 'garbed' itself in that golden artifact and streaked across the smooth floor towards the door leading to the interior… it had a mission to fulfill.

Whooshhhh…

And sensing the approaching movement, the thin, yet very sturdy doors opened automatically with a soft, breezy chime, seemingly dissappearing into the wall, a sight which at any other time would have seen very mundane, yet now it filled the boy tentacle like hybrid with an immense surge of excitement like few before.

This proved his disguise worked.

So unwilling to waste a second more, the being quickly shot inside, scuttling past several corridors with practised ease.

All these corridors looked pretty much the same, silvery white, with a sleek, futuristic design, each side inlaid with many, many navy blue doors.

These were the crew quarters of the ship, where the dead bodies of the crew still lay locked inside, some having died from the sudden shock of this unknown dimensional jump but most from various unknown diseases.

These diseases all originated here in Algea, but these beings coming from another dimension, naturally lacked any immunity to them.

And also perhaps out of the greatest ill luck of all, the ship's air filtration system, out of all the things, had become damaged during the crash landing.

The crew still managed to quickly repair it, but that small window of time was enough… the 'ruler of the microscopic world of Algea' slyly infiltrated the ship and then rapidly went on to reenact the scene of the Red Indians making first contact with the arriving Europeans.

The 'invaders' were decimated, thus giving them a truly 'hospitable' welcome.

Many instantly died, these were the lucky ones.

While a bit more resistant ones experienced excruciating mutanuous changes as the microorganisms of Algea reacted with this foreign biology and morphed into completely new species, giving birth to several brand new diseases not even the most experienced doctors of this plane knew of.

As for the extremely few lucky ones whose immune system was strong enough to quickly evolve and adapt, well too bad for them, the tentacle they had captured somehow managed to get itself loose out of its confinement courtesy of its holding cell temporarily losing power.

Upon which it proceeded to do short work of anyone it found out in the open, slicing them into sashimi and consuming them as nourishment.

Only when the ship's captain turned on the ship's internal weapons authorization using his dying breath did this monster find something to fear.

But by then, the entire crew had ceased to exist.

The scenes of all those past events once again flashed by its mind as the tentacle swiftly raced across the corridor.

It felt very happy thinking how it had killed and eaten those soldiers, but at the same time, it also felt angry by how those people had treated it, letting it almost fail in its grand mission given by the Mother.

Thus some part of it even wanted to try its luck with the control panels of those doors, just to eat the bodies inside and vent.

But such extraneous thoughts were quickly filtered out by the determined organism and soon it reached its destination without any incident.

As the last door opened itself, 'Adonis' found himself in a huge circular room with colorful flashing lights, holographic screens and various command modules and stations arranged in neat rows with computer desktops.

This was the center of the ship, the main command hub, the captain's bridge or also known as the brains of the ship, i.e. the place where all the 'magic happened'.

As 'Adonis' scanned 'his' eyes across the room, he found the screens were filled with various live video footage of both inside and outside the ship, showing all the happenings, such as the movement of many underground insects and critters nearby.

There were various numbers and complicated diagrams showing the current state of various components of the craft and footnotes recommending what to do next.

As well as all kinds of technical readings and evalutions, such as the fuel levels, ammunition stock, number of perosnal abroad, current life sustaining capablities such as food, clear air and water levels, the current tensile and stress levels on various ship frames, the quality of the AI program running the place, tempertures in various parts and many, many more.

This room really revealed the complete state of the ship.

But although this was all very deeply interesting, the alien tentacle did not linger its eyes there for long- it was there for a very specific reason- the communication array.

But before that, it quickly began to change its life signature, intending to disguse as one of the ship's crew it had eaten oh so long ago.

This was the nerve center of the ship, and naturally not any human or other creatures would be allowed. They needed to have the proper cleannce.

Hence just in case… the tentacle began to subtly morph, wishing to be extra careful.

"Beep! Unknown life form detected! Scanning…. Protanyd species detected!"

However, before it could finish, suddenly a scanning screen of blue light passed over 'Adonis' out of nowhere and made the following announcement.

'Its' 'heart'... or what it had for a heart instantly fell to a nadir, skipping a beat before threatening to spill out.

That change of disguise was like taking off the clothes to put on other one. For a split microsecond, its true skin became revealed.

And that was all the hypersensitive sensors placed all around the room needed, as numerous weapon stations from all around the room began to get activated- "Threat Level Alpha- Destroy with immense prejudice."

While the realization of a mistake made the tentacle want to cry its eyes out but it had no tears.

'Did I fail? Was I detected? How?'

It screamed manically to itself, experiencing perhaps the first time in its life a genuine sense of despair. And for one who had spread so much of it in its lifetime, it now suddenly found it was not a big fan of being on the receiving end of it.

But whatever it felt, there was nothing for it to do now.

Click, click, click,

There was a metallic click of all the doors auto locking themselves as all the weapons started to take aim, wanting to vaporise 'it' to smithens and then vent out the smoke as waste gases.

And regarding all this, 'Adonis' could do nothing but simply stand there and wait out its judgment.

There was simply no place for it to dodge.

Those lasers came at the speed of light, and used extremely advanced AI prediction algorithms to make very intelligent guesses to all the possible routes the tentacle being could take and even the probabilities of it taking each of those routes.

Combine this with so many weapons present, all coordinating and collaborating with each other…. and

If some other 'white armored soldiers from a far off spacefaring 'Empire' used such technologies in their bolt guns, the 'rebel scums' would have been dealt with a long, long time ago.

But still, the 'tentacle' thought its 'sheep's skin' was perfect this time.

Yet…
