Chapter 18 - Bar Girl

Just as promised, Elizabeth's uncle was able to get information regarding Lilac and it sent to Elizabeth.

After the first class, Elizabeth called Alex and handed the envelope to him.

"It didn't take you long," he commented as he collected the information from Elizabeth.

"My uncle's ability is to gather information regarding anyone as long as they within in this country," Elizabeth replied.

Unlike before, she spoke nicely to Alex and Alex though aware, pretended like he didn't notice anything and continued in his usual tone.

"I see," he mumbled.

'I might as well use her uncle and gather some information'.

"Did you hear me?" Elizabeth suddenly asked him and he glanced up and looked at her.

For the first time, their eyes met and it felt as though time slowed down for them. The two stared at each other, both having their thoughts but it seemed as though they were thinking the same thing.

"What did you say?" Alex who was the first to break free from whatever was happening asked her.

Embarrassed, Elizabeth looked away immediately.

Alex noticed her cheeks flushing red but he ignored it immediately... He didn't want to imagine that the same girl who insulted him on different occasions could be having weird feelings for him.

Since she didn't reply immediately, he went ahead to go through the information she had given to him.

As he was going through it, he narrowed his eyes the moment he came across a piece of information.

"A bar girl?" He asked Elizabeth.

"Yes, that's what the information says," Elizabeth replied.

"This is too fishy," Alex mumbled. "She doesn't look like someone who would do that kind of job.

"Well, it's what the information says and my uncle can not be wrong. Look, there's an address there," Elisabeth said and Alex looked down and saw an address written by the end of it.

"I should pay her a visit tonight," Alex said.

Elizabeth frowned slightly. "Pay her a visit tonight?" She asked, her voice slowly changing. She was beginning to get hurt again.

"Yes... You are coming with me though," Alex replied.

Elizabeth's eyes widened in surprise, and for a moment, she forgot to breathe. She hadn't expected Alex to ask her to come along, especially after their tumultuous past. But as she looked into his eyes, she saw a glimmer of something that looked almost like...trust?

Inwardly, Elizabeth's heart skipped a beat. She was happy, truly happy, that Alex had asked for her help. It was a small gesture, but it meant the world to her. She felt a sense of belonging, of being needed, that she hadn't experienced in a long time.

"Okay," she said finally, trying to sound nonchalant despite the butterflies in her stomach. "I'll come with you."

Alex nodded, his expression unreadable. "Good. We'll leave at 9 pm."

The rest of the day passed in a blur for Elizabeth. She went through the motions of her classes, but her mind was elsewhere, wondering what the night would bring. Would they uncover some deep, dark secret about Lilac? And what would Alex's reaction be?

As the sun began to set, Elizabeth made her way back to her house, her heart racing with anticipation. She checked for her father but he wasn't at home, even his study was locked or she would gone in to gather some information for Alex.

Regardless, She spent the next few hours pacing back and forth in her room, trying to calm her nerves.

Finally, at 9 pm sharp, there was a knock on her door. She peeped through the window and saw it was Alex.

She quickly rushed down to get it.

"Ready?" he asked, his voice low and husky.

Elizabeth nodded, feeling a shiver run down her spine. "Let's go."

They made their way through the quiet streets, the only sound being the soft rustling of leaves beneath their feet. The air was cool and crisp, filled with the scent of blooming flowers.

As they walked, Elizabeth couldn't help but steal glances at Alex. He was focused, his eyes fixed on some point in the distance. She wondered what he was thinking, what was driving him to uncover the truth about Lilac.

After what felt like an eternity, they finally arrived at the bar. It was a seedy-looking place, the neon lights flashing garishly in the darkness. Elizabeth felt a pang of unease, but Alex seemed undaunted.

He pushed open the door, and they stepped inside. The air was thick with smoke and the smell of cheap perfume. Elizabeth coughed, her eyes scanning the room for any sign of Lilac.

And then, she saw her. Lilac was standing behind the bar, her silver hair gleaming in the dim light. She looked different, somehow. More vulnerable.

As soon as she saw Alex, her face lit up with a bright smile. "Alex!" she exclaimed, her voice husky.

But as her eyes landed on Elizabeth, her expression changed. Her smile faltered, and her eyes narrowed. For a moment, Elizabeth thought she saw a flash of anger, but it was quickly replaced by a mask of indifference.

Lilac's eyes flicked back to Alex, and she smiled again, though it seemed forced. "What brings you here?" she asked, her voice dripping with sweetness.

Alex's eyes locked onto hers, his expression unreadable. "Just thought I'd drop by and say hello," he said, his voice low and smooth.

Elizabeth watched the exchange, her mind racing with so many thoughts. What was going on? Why was Lilac reacting this way? And what did Alex hope to achieve by coming here?

Lilac smiled so charmingly at Alex. "So what should I get for you? My boss is not around?" She asked him.

Alex glanced at Elizabeth, the girl immediately avoided his gaze. "We'll just take a glass of water, we both had something before coming," he replied to Lilac.

'We?' Elizabeth turned and gazed at Alex. Since when did he start referring to them as "we"? It was a small thing, but it sent a flutter through her chest. She looked away, trying to compose herself.

Lilac nodded, her smile still plastered on her face. "Sure, I'll get that for you." No one noticed but she smirked and turned around.

As she turned to get the water, Elizabeth couldn't help but notice the way Alex's eyes followed Lilac's movements. There was something in his gaze, something that looked almost like concern or perhaps... Was she just imagining things?

Elizabeth's mind was racing. What was going on? Why was Alex so interested in Lilac? And why did Lilac seem so...off?

As they waited for their water, Elizabeth took the opportunity to observe Lilac more closely. There was something about her that didn't quite add up. Something that seemed hidden.

Lilac returned with their water, her smile still fixed on her face. "Here you go," she said, her voice dripping with sweetness.

As Alex took the glass from her, their fingers touched, and Elizabeth felt a jolt of something. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but it felt almost like jealousy.

She looked away, trying to shake off the feeling. What was wrong with her? She didn't care about Alex or his relationships with other girls.

But as she glanced back at Alex and Lilac, she couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. Something was going on, something that she couldn't quite see. She raised the glass of water to put in her mouth, but as she did that, Alex suddenly snatched it away from her hands.
