After Alex had left, Elizabeth stood, staring at his back in anger but then, she somewhat came back to her senses and she began to wonder what was really happening to her.
She had never felt this way before. She began to feel strangely angry the moment Alex told her to watch the new girl for him and she did not know why.
As much as she did not want to care about anything that has to do with Alex, she could not help but wonder why he was so much interested in the new girl.
'He feels he knows everything, right? Why don't he do it himself!'
She angrily thought and stormed out of the library.
It was approaching noon already and Elizabeth was supposed to be heading back home, although part of the house had been destroyed due to the confrontation, she still had to return but instead of following the route that led to her house, she found herself heading towards a different direction.
After walking for a while, she stopped at a shop and pushed open the door before going in.
Hearing the sound of the door, the person inside looked up and the moment he saw her, he smiled.
"Beth, it's been a while," the young man said.
"Yeah uncle, how have you been?" Elizabeth asked him, walking towards him.
"Been fine, that's all," the young man replied. "What's the latest?"
"Nothing, the usual," she replied while trying to avoid his piercing gaze.
"Are you sure?" He asked. "I heard my brother fought with a lad, I suppose you know him."
Elisabeth turned around and began to walk around the tattoo store. She was purposely trying to avoid the topic but the more she tried to, the more her uncle wanted to dive more.
"Do you know him? Is he one of those showing interest in you? Come on, tell me something," the young man persuaded.
Seeing that her uncle was so curious, she decided to say something.
"Uncle, he's not someone I admire!" She said. "I don't like him and I will never! He's just someone I know."
"Seems you hate him so much, is that it?" Her uncle asked her with a smile on his face.
"That's not why I'm here," Elizabeth said and then came back to where he was. "I want you to help me find someone."
"Hmmm, who could that be?" The young man asked.
"She goes by the name Lilac, a newcomer in our school," Elizabeth replied.
"Is that so important?" The young man asked her and she nodded her head. "Well, I'll see what I can do about it,"he said.
Elizabeth smiled faintly. "Thank you, uncle," she said. "I've got to head back home."
"That's fine, greet Victor for me," the young man said and she nodded and left the store.
On her way back home, her thoughts were filled with the images of Alex.
She remembered when he was newly enrolled into the hero academia, how everyone found out that he was born without an ability and how everyone detested him because of it.
She never really hated him from the start but what made her to eventually haye him was because he was weak and scared — he had zero confidence in himself and only relied on others for help. There was nothing he could get right, always cowering behind his best friend for protection, running away in tears whenever he was bullied.... All these things made her to slowly develop hatred for him.
Initially, the first time they met, it was at the school eatery, it was a brief encounter but it was something she won't forget even in her dreams. His blue hair waved beautifully as he walked, his golden eyes sparkled with a hint of shyness, and his smile, though hesitant, had a certain charm to it. Elizabeth had felt a flutter in her chest, a feeling she couldn't quite explain. But as she got to know him better, her initial fascination turned to disappointment and eventually, disdain.
She remembered how Alex would often stumble over his words, how he would hesitate before speaking, and how he would avoid eye contact. It was as if he was afraid of his own shadow. Elizabeth had found it infuriating, and her contempt for him grew with each passing day.
But now, as she walked back home, she couldn't shake off the feeling that there was something different about him now. He had suddenly change overnight and it made her wonder why and how comes.
She recalled the way he had stood up to her father, the way he had looked at her with a fierce intensity in his eyes. It was a side of him she had never seen before, and it left her feeling unsettled.
As she approached her house, Elizabeth noticed that the damage from the previous night's confrontation had been partially repaired. The broken furniture had been cleared, and the shattered glass had been swept away. But the tension in the air was still palpable.
Elizabeth took a deep breath and stepped inside. Once she was inside the walls of the house, she looked around but didn't see anyone, so she concluded that her father should be in his study.
As she got to the door, she was about to open the door and enter when she suddenly stopped and placed her ears on the door. It was her father's voice.
"The boy is strong, he was not like this before."
.....
"Yes, I will keep my eyes on him."
.....
"Very well, I will do that for you."
It seemed he was speaking to someone on the phone and when he was done, the call ended.
Elizabeth heard footsteps approaching the door and then she rushed and hid behind a pillar, she watched as her father opened the door and stepped out of the study.
Curious to know who they were talking about and why her father was behaving suspiciously, she decided to go into the study and find out herself.
As she went inside, she saw a glimpse of photos on the table and so she went closer. When she got to the table, she was shocked to see photos of Alex spread all over with the word 'target' imprinted on it.
At first, she was shocked and confused. How did her father learn about Alex when they barely knew each other? What was his pictures doing on her father's table and why is he being targeted?
Many possibilities filled her head and she was desperate for answers. She quickly sneaked out of the study and went up to her room.
That night, she did not sleep, she was thinking so many things at a time but neither of them gave her the answer she was hoping for.
In the end, she resolved in herself that she was going to put aside her grudges and find out herself who and why they are after Alex. If truly his life is in any danger, she will stand up for him and do her best to help him no matter the consequences attached to it.
