Chapter 9 - [Error…]

Succubi Chapter 9. [Error…]

I sighed, rolling my shoulders before flopping onto my ridiculously comfortable bed. For a place that had forcibly assigned me to an all-girls dorm, they sure knew how to make a guy feel like royalty.

But I couldn't just lay around all day.

I had stuff to do.

Like unpacking the bare minimum belongings I was allowed to bring because of my gremlin little sister. I sat up, cracked my knuckles, and unzipped my suitcase.

The moment I did, I let out a whistle.

Not because I had a lot of stuff—quite the opposite.

Compared to Leon's overstuffed luggage and the ridiculous amount of things the girls brought, I had the bare essentials.

Laptop? Check.

Bathroom necessities? Check.

Clothes? Check, though barely enough.

Some emergency cash? Check.

That was it.

I started whistling to myself, casually unpacking each item and placing them neatly around my room.

Laptop on the desk.

Toiletries in the bathroom bag.

Clothes into the sleek, built-in closet that had way too much space for my sad amount of outfits.

I sighed, looking at the half-empty closet before muttering, "Yeah. Gonna need to buy more clothes."

Which brought me to my next thought.

Money.

Sure, I had some saved up, but this Academy had an internship system.

Basically, students could earn money by taking part-time jobs within the Academy.

Some worked in the cafeteria, some helped maintain the dorms, and the more capable students could even take on missions.

The mission system was a whole thing.

We had to go through a test first, which determined the maximum rank of missions we could accept and the type of missions suited for us.

And yeah.

I was definitely signing up later.

Not only to make money and have fun but also to torture my little sister with my purchases. My new stuff.

I smirked at the thought.

Queenie, for all her chaotic energy, was a jealous little goblin. And because outsiders weren't allowed to visit student residential areas, she'd never be able to step foot into my amazing dorm unless she had a special permit for an emergency. At best, she could only visit the lobby or the Academy café.

And most students met their parents outside anyway, since bringing family into the Academy was a hassle.

Which meant— I could flex my superior lifestyle all I wanted.

I grinned, grabbing my phone and making a mental note to buy something unnecessarily expensive just to piss her off. I finished placing my last item, then stood back, scanning my room.

It looked nice. Lived-in, but organized.

I stretched, rolling my shoulders before deciding to take a quick room tour. The place was massive—a queen-sized bed with plush pillows, a spacious desk with built-in screen displays, and even a small personal fridge.

The only problem?

No private bathroom.

I frowned, glancing at my form again.

Yeah. Shared bathroom.

I exhaled through my nose. "Welp. Could be worse."

As long as the girls didn't randomly walk out naked or in towels, then scream at me for 'being a pervert,' I could probably survive.

Probably.

Still. I made a mental note to time my showers carefully.

The last thing I needed was a misunderstanding that got me yeeted out of this dorm on day one.

I plopped back onto my bed, staring up at the ceiling.

This bed was way too comfortable. Like, stupidly, unfairly comfortable. The kind of comfortable that made me question everything about my life up until now.

I sighed, letting my muscles relax completely against the soft sheets. For the first time since arriving at this chaotic academy, I actually felt… okay.

No fights.

No weird encounters.

Just me, my ridiculously fancy new room, and the temptation to nap for hours.

'Nope, nope.'

I rolled over, grabbing the stack of documents that had come with my student package.

Might as well check my schedule.

I skimmed through the neatly printed text, eyes narrowing as I took in the details.

Classes were structured well, with breaks in between so students wouldn't burn out. Two cafeterias on opposite sides of campus to prevent long wait times. Students could even make their own food at their dorms and bring it to class if they wanted.

And best of all?

There was a grocery shop inside the academy.

It wasn't huge, but from the looks of it, it had everything necessary for basic cooking. The cafeterias also got their supplies there, so everything was fresh and locally sourced.

My lips curled into a grin.

This place was heaven. Bureaucratic mistake that forced me into an all-girls dorm?

Forgiven.

Well. Temporarily.

I yawned, stretching my arms out before tossing the documents onto my desk. I could go grab some lunch after this, but honestly? A nap sounded way better. I let out a slow exhale, sinking deeper into the plush bed.

Within minutes, sleep started creeping in.

My thoughts drifted.

My body relaxed.

And then— Flicker.

A faint glow flashed against my closed eyelids.

I stirred, half-conscious.

The air felt… different.

Like something was watching me.

A screen popped up in front of me.

[System Integration: 99% (Pending Full Synchronization…)]

[Status: Observed]

[Rare class found…]

My heart stopped.

Then the last notification appeared.

[Demon Sovereign]

I snapped awake.

The drowsiness vanished instantly as I bolted upright, my breathing sharp.

"What the hell—"

Before I could process anything, the system screen glitched violently.

The words warped and flickered, symbols and unreadable text flashing for a brief second.

[^&*^7f^)&^]

[Error…]

And then— It was gone.

The system refreshed.

My usual status screen replaced it, looking exactly the same as before.

[Name: Evan Drakos]

[Class: ???]

[Level: 1]

[Skills: [Vital Surge], [Aether Slash], [Arcane Burst], [Protection]

I stared. I blinked. Then I stared harder.

"No, no, no—" I muttered, shaking my head.

I saw it.

The system literally just said Demon Sovereign.

I wasn't imagining it. I squinted at the screen again. "Class."

The system responded.

[Your class has not been determined.]

I exhaled sharply, gripping my hair. "No, no, you literally just—" I stopped, trying to calm my racing thoughts.

Demon Sovereign?

What the hell did that even mean?

Demons weren't real. They were just myths.

Sure, Archeline Academy had a crazy advanced system, but it wasn't like we were in some demon-infested world.

Right?

I swallowed.

Something wasn't right.

Why did my system glitch?

Why did it say 'Observed'?

And why—why the hell did it erase the Demon Sovereign thing like it never happened?

I let out a slow breath, my hands tightening into fists.

Okay. Think logically.

There were only two possible explanations.

First one, I was sleep-deprived and hallucinating.

Second, something in this Academy held a secret.

And somehow, I was in the middle of it.

I exhaled sharply, still staring at my system screen as if glaring at it would force it to confess its sins.

But nothing.

I rubbed my face. "I should ask the staff…"

Before I could even finish my own sentence, my phone buzzed again.

This time, it wasn't my evil little sister.

A text from Leon.

Leon: Yo. Wanna grab lunch together?

I blinked.

For once, an actual normal request.

I quickly texted back.

Evan: Yeah, sure.

Leon: Cool. I'll wait for you at the main building.

I sat up from the bed, stretching my arms.

Yeah. I needed food.

And more importantly?

This was a good opportunity to ask the staff about what happened to my system.

If something was wrong with my classification, they might be able to check.

Or maybe they'd just tell me to suck it up and figure it out myself.

Who knows?

Either way, it was worth a shot.

I grabbed my student card and phone, then stepped out of my room, still running through all the possible explanations in my head.

And then— I met her.

I barely took two steps out of my room before coming face-to-face with a girl I had never seen before.

Short, vibrant red hair framed her sharp face, with piercing amber eyes that practically glowed in the dim hallway light.

She was gorgeous, but something about her screamed femme fatale.

Like she could break your heart and your spine in the same afternoon.

She held a glass of water in one hand, swirling it casually, her expression bored but observant.

Then her gaze locked onto me.

"Oh," she said, tilting her head slightly. "You're that new guy."

I blinked. I wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing. But I wasn't about to take any chances. I straightened, offering my best neutral, non-threatening smile.

"Yeah, that's me," I said. "Evan Drakos. Nice to meet you."

She took a slow sip of water, her amber eyes scanning me carefully.

Then, without warning, she reached out and grabbed my hand.

Her grip was strong.

Too strong.

Like, 'I could break your bones if I felt like it' strong.

My eyes flicked to her physique.

She didn't look particularly bulky. In fact, she had a lean, toned frame that didn't immediately scream "Tank Class."

But that grip?

Yeah.

She was a tank.

Confirmed.

She smirked slightly, watching as I processed my impending death.

"Riven Ashborne," she said smoothly. "You can call me Rivy."

I exhaled, trying not to look like I was just manhandled.

"Nice to meet you, Rivy," I said, shaking her hand despite the fact that my bones might be cracking.

Pic is in my discord channel.
