I stood on the edge of the corruption, trying desperately to keep the horror I was feeling from showing on my face.
"This is…this is what a landbreaker can do?" Rowan whispered.
When a spiritbreaker takes over an area, usually everything dies, and black ooze spreads across the dead ground.
This was different.
Nothing had died for one. At least in the traditional sense. Rather they had been…repurposed.
"The trees are moving. And look at their branches."
I followed Rowan's gaze to a gathering of trees, bereft of leaves, and with branches sharpened to a point.
Things moved in the branches. Things that must have once been squirrels.
"And look there, sir." Rowan pointed at a boulder. It was covered in this thick black slime that covered everything in the vicinity.
"It's…moving? Like the trees."
Rowan nodded. "More than that sir. I think it's…eating."
