"During the battle, neither side's Pokémon may leave the designated battlefield for any reason—doing so will result in an automatic loss."
"If the challenger causes any damage to the gym's environment or equipment due to their own actions (such as stepping out of bounds), they must compensate for the damages in full."
Silas carefully read through the Pewter Gym's battle rules.
In truth, they were almost identical to standard battle regulations.
The only difference lay in the first three clauses, but aside from that, nothing had changed.
Checking the time, he still had an hour and a half before the match.
No rush.
He continued strolling through the streets of Pewter City for another half-hour before heading back to the Pokémon Center.
There, he retrieved the two Pokémon he had left in Nurse Joy's care when he booked his room earlier.
After that, Silas took his time making his way toward Pewter Gym in the distance.
As he approached, he couldn't help but be impressed.
"As expected of one of Kanto's eight oldest and most historic Gyms."
The Pewter Gym's massive rock-like exterior was made up of colossal stone formations, almost as if a giant Onix had coiled itself into a fortress.
Even though the surrounding buildings were already rugged and towering, they paled in comparison to the sheer size of the Pewter Gym.
The entire structure looked like a monstrous gray stone beast, perfectly matching Pewter City's reputation as a city of rock and stone.
This level of grandeur wasn't surprising, considering Pewter Gym's past Gym Leader was a former Kanto Elite Four member.
Back when Kanto and Johto were still one unified region, Pewter Gym's former Leader had held the prestigious Elite Four title, making him one of the most powerful trainers of his time.
It was during his era that Pewter Gym underwent a complete renovation, transforming into the mighty fortress it was today.
However, after stepping down thirty years ago, the former Leader had passed the Gym Leader position to his son, Flint, and had rarely appeared in public since.
That didn't mean Pewter Gym had weakened.
On the contrary, Flint was a remarkably strong Gym Leader in his own right.
Unlike in the anime from his previous life, where certain issues had arisen, this Pewter Gym was as strong as ever.
Silas withdrew his gaze from the imposing structure and approached the entrance.
He presented his Trainer ID and Gym Battle appointment confirmation to the Gym staff at the front desk.
After verifying his information, the staff member led him to Waiting Room #1.
"Your Gym Battle is scheduled to begin in 32 minutes. The previous challenger is currently battling."
"Please wait here until you are called. A staff member will escort you to the battlefield when it's time."
"Feel free to enjoy the complimentary beverages in the waiting room."
"Good luck in your battle!"
After explaining the situation, the staff member left.
Silas glanced around.
The waiting room was well-furnished and elegantly designed—a clear sign that Gyms had plenty of funding.
He walked over to the drink dispenser, grabbed a cup, and poured himself some fruit juice before settling onto a comfortable couch.
Time passed quickly.
After about thirty minutes, a staff member arrived and motioned for Silas to follow.
He stood up and walked behind them, making his way toward the battlefield.
The hallway leading to the arena was dimly lit, but at the end of the tunnel, a brilliant beam of light shone through.
Squinting slightly, Silas stepped into the light.
What greeted him was a massive battlefield a rugged, uneven terrain made entirely of solid rock formations.
On the opposite side of the field, a tan-skinned young man wearing a green vest stood with his arms crossed, his signature squinted eyes giving him an unreadable expression.
"So, you must be Silas Alaric, the challenger."
Brock's voice echoed across the battlefield.
Silas was momentarily surprised.
But this was no time to dwell on it his Gym Battle was about to begin.
He took a deep breath, steadied himself, and nodded in confirmation.
"Yes! I am Silas Alaric from Viridian City, and I officially challenge you for the Pewter Badge!"
He stepped onto the challenger's platform, locking eyes with Brock across the battlefield.
"Very well, Trainer Silas."
Brock nodded, then signaled for the referee to enter the arena.
"Even though you've already received the challenge rules, it's standard procedure for me to go over them again briefly."
The referee raised his flag, listening attentively.
"The Pewter Gym battle is a 2v2 match on a Rock-type battlefield."
"As the Gym Leader, I will send out my Pokémon first."
"The challenger has the right to make the first move."
"The challenger is allowed to switch Pokémon, but the Gym Leader is not."
"The battle continues until one side's Pokémon are both unable to fight."
With the rules clearly stated, the referee swung his flag down.
"Let the Gym Battle between Pewter City's Brock and Viridian City's Silas Alaric begin!"
Brock immediately tossed a Poké Ball.
"I'll start with Graveler!"
A burst of white light flashed, revealing a sturdy Graveler, its rocky body covered in cracks and rugged edges.
Silas didn't hesitate.
The moment Graveler appeared, he reached for the Luxury Ball on his belt.
"Alright then—go, Combusken!"
Yes Silas had chosen Combusken over Pidgeot Compared to Pidgeot, Combusken needed more battle experience at this stage.
After all, Gym Battles were meant to hone a Pokémon's strength through evenly matched fights not just for winning badges.
Brock's eyes gleamed with intrigue as he observed Silas's Combusken.
As a future Gym Leader and a trainer aspiring to be a top-tier Pokémon Breeder, Brock could immediately tell."This Combusken isn't just talented—it's been trained exceptionally well."
As for the type disadvantage?
Brock wasn't naïve.
Some rookie trainers might overlook type matchups, but Silas, a trainer capable of raising such a powerful Combusken, was clearly not one of them.
"Confident, huh? Interesting."
Brock smirked inwardly.
"Combusken Agility! Then hit it with Flamethrower!"Silas commanded decisively.
He wanted to gauge Graveler's mobility and durability before committing to an all-out assault.
"Rollout! Then use Rock Polish to evade!"
Brock countered swiftly.
He was used to challengers leading with speed-based tactics against his Graveler.
He had long since developed a standard response for this.
Normally, Rollout alone was enough for Graveler to dodge most initial scouting attacks despite its sluggish base speed, Graveler was remarkably nimble when rolling.
However, considering the remarkable training Silas's Combusken had undergone, Brock took extra precaution, opting for Rock Polish to further boost Graveler's mobility.
Graveler tucked its limbs in and spun rapidly, glowing as it executed Rock Polish while rolling.
"Boom—!"
Even so, Flamethrower still grazed Graveler, leaving charred marks on its body and blackened patches on the battlefield.
Brock's eyes narrowed further.
"Not only is Combusken's attack speed incredible, but its firepower is significantly stronger than the average."
Meanwhile, Silas analyzed the battlefield.
"Graveler is surprisingly agile. Rolling into Rock Polish made it ridiculously fast."
But speed aside."Its attack power isn't anything special."
Silas noted the lack of immediate offensive pressure from Graveler.
That gave him an opening.
"Quick Attack! Get in close and use Low Kick send it flying!"
"Endure!"
Brock reacted instinctively, though Silas's command confused him.
Why would he go for a direct physical attack?
Still, Brock's solid fundamentals kicked in automatically.
Combusken was already rushing forward, its body glowing white as it closed in at blinding speed.
But before Graveler could even fully brace itself,
BAM!
Combusken's Low Kick struck clean, sending Graveler soaring into the air.
"Double Kick then finish it with Brick Break!"
Silas's cold and precise voice echoed through the gym.
Before Brock or Graveler could react,
Combusken leaped after it.
A powerful Double Kick sent Graveler even higher, throwing it completely off-balance.
"CRASH—!"
With a swift midair spin, Combusken smashed Graveler back down toward the battlefield.
Still airborne, Combusken adjusted its position and followed up Its right hand glowing white, brimming with focused energy,
BRICK BREAK!
A devastating hand chop landed squarely on Graveler's body.
"BOOM!"
Graveler slammed into the ground, sending dust and debris flying everywhere.
