"If we replace Mystic Powder with Windleaf Grass, would that be better? Mystic Powder could serve as a supplementary ingredient, while Windleaf Grass—"
"No, that wouldn't work. Windleaf Grass can indeed enhance the effects of Shining Grass, but for Combusken...."
"Then have you considered Starlight Herb? It's much more expensive, but it's a mutated variant of Shining Grass, with nearly identical medicinal properties, and..."
"In that case, it might work, but the supplementary ingredients would need to be adjusted accordingly...."
"What about Star Mushroom?"
The two of them got into a heated discussion. For the most part, though, Silas was the one doing the talking, while Brock listened attentively.
After all, Silas was someone who had Zero, and he was naturally a prodigy when it came to learning. It wasn't surprising that he was ahead of Brock in many aspects.
That said, Brock's contributions were still invaluable. Many of the ideas he brought up gave Silas new insights. While Zero's training methods were based on an extensive understanding of materials, the officially recorded properties of ingredients weren't always the full story. Some special traits and effects remained unpublished or undisclosed.
Over the years, Silas had only managed to figure out a portion of these hidden details through study and research.
As the heir to the Pewter Gym and future Gym Leader, Brock possessed a wealth of knowledge in this area that far exceeded Silas's. He introduced many materials and special traits that Silas hadn't known about, which significantly improved the efficiency of his resource utilization.
They talked non-stop for three hours, so absorbed in their discussion that they only snapped out of it when they realized the restaurant had nearly emptied.
"Haha, you're incredible, Silas! You have such a deep understanding of how different materials interact," Brock praised.
"Not to mention, that reaction formula you created it's practically perfect. It's just a shame that it's tailored specifically for your Pokémon and isn't widely applicable."
"It's nothing, really. There's still a lot I don't know," Silas replied, shaking his head.
"It's getting late. I should head back. Let's add each other as friends. I'm free tomorrow, so we can continue our discussion," Brock suggested, opening his PokéGear interface.
"Sounds good," Silas agreed.
After adding each other as friends through their PokéGear, they said their goodbyes and went their separate ways.
When Brock arrived home, he saw his father, Flint, sitting on the couch, reviewing reports from his subordinates.
"Did you check if Timmy had any stomach issues? Did you change his diaper?"
"Has Tommy's cold gotten any better? Did he take his medicine?"
"Did Suzi finish her homework today? Have you checked it?"
Hearing his son nagging him the moment he walked in, Flint immediately felt a headache coming on. Putting down his report, he replied:
"Yes, yes, I've handled everything. Timmy was very well-behaved today, no issues at all.Tommy took his medicine on time.Suzi is still working on her homework you can check it later."
"Oh, by the way, where did you go tonight?" Flint asked, subtly changing the subject.
"I met an interesting Trainer during today's Gym battle. He's an orphan, same age as me," Brock began.
"According to the records, he has a Pidgeot. The Joy family estimates its potential to be at least Pseudo Elite level, and its current energy output is around mid-tier Advance level.
"He also recently caught a Combusken its potential is unknown, but it has the Speed Boost ability. Based on family records, we estimate that its potential is at least Elite, possibly even pseudo-Champion.
"As for his overall strength, he's quite skilled. Today, I used a Graveler and Dugtrio from Breeding Room #3, but he still managed to take them both down with just his Combusken.
"In terms of funding, he relied on selling Fire Stones and completing bounty missions. Everything checks out. I figured I'd introduce myself and get to know him a little."
"Hmm, sounds like a lucky guy," Flint said, picking his report back up.
It wasn't uncommon for Trainers from ordinary backgrounds to stumble upon a high-potential Pokémon. However, very few of them actually succeeded in the long run.
After all, having a single powerful Pokémon wasn't enough to dominate battles. And without access to proper resources and channels, ordinary Trainers struggled to raise and acquire other high-potential Pokémon.
Even someone like Silas, who had managed to obtain two Pokémon with Elite potential, wasn't unheard of before.
After all, even Chairman Goodshow had a pact with Legendary Pokémon, and he, too, was born a commoner.
At best, Silas was someone with potential worth investing in.
Brock wasn't surprised by Flint's reaction.
From the perspective of the League's upper-class elite, Trainers like Silas appeared every year one or two at a time. It wasn't anything special.
Unless they started appearing in large numbers which was unrealistic. Even the elite families didn't have that many high-potential Pokémon, let alone ordinary Trainers.
"My original plan was just to have a casual conversation and establish some goodwill," Brock continued, "but after talking with him, I realized that he might actually be a genius."
"Oh?" Flint responded absentmindedly, barely looking up from his report.
"His training methods aren't anything unusual just the standard techniques. They're just more efficient compared to what most ordinary Trainers can manage.
"At least, that's how it looks for now. He's still a ways off from what we'd consider an optimized training regimen."
Brock's tone was indifferent as he analyzed the situation.
"But when it comes to Pokémon breeding he's extremely talented.
If it weren't for the fact that he lacks access to certain classified information, I'd say he could already qualify for the title of Breeding Master."
For the first time in the conversation, Brock's voice carried some emotion.
That caught Flint's attention. He raised an eyebrow and finally looked up.
He knew his eldest son very well Brock wasn't the type to exaggerate.
Not only that, but Brock himself had a deep interest and talent in breeding. He had recently passed the League's Level 5 Breeder Exam, officially making him an Intermediate Breeder.
But calling someone a Breeding Master? That seemed a bit excessive.
After all, the most outstanding Breeder in recent years was Snow, who had also been born a commoner. Even then, she had only passed the Level 9 Exam last year at the age of 21.
The Breeder certification had a total of 10 levels, and Level 9 was already an extremely high rank.
Even for a prodigy like Snow, the League estimated that she wouldn't reach Level 10 and become a Breeding Master until she was around 30 years old. That would make her the third-youngest Breeding Master in League history.
And this Silas kid wasn't he still under 17? Could he really reach that level?
Brock noticed his father's skeptical gaze and immediately clarified, "I'm not saying he can become a Breeding Master right now. He still has at least five years of learning ahead of him to fill in the gaps in his knowledge.
"But when it comes to understanding how different materials interact, energy reactions, potion formulations, and designing breeding programs tailored to specific Pokémon I'd say his skill is already master-level."
What Brock didn't realize was that Silas's ability to learn was even more terrifying than he imagined.
Even so, his assessment was enough to pique Flint's interest.
After all, there were many Breeders out there, but very few who could earn the title of Breeding Master.
To qualify, a Breeding Master had to be capable of designing a customized breeding plan for any Pokémon one that accounted for every stage of its growth and maximized its development in the shortest possible time.
Every recognized Breeding Master was also a powerful Trainer in their own right.
Currently, there were only fifteen living Breeding Masters in the entire League.
Whenever someone wanted to commission a personalized training plan from one of them, even a wealthy Gym Leader like Flint would hesitate it was that expensive.
And money wasn't even the real issue. Breeding Masters didn't care about money.
What they wanted were rare, high-grade breeding materials.
The problem was that those materials were so scarce that even people like Flint couldn't afford to give them away because they needed them for their own Pokémon.
