"You may think you're controlling the game, but what if she's the one playing you?" Amelia continued.
Damian clenched his jaw. Her words stung more than he expected, but he couldn't let her see how much they affected him. "That's what I intend to find out," he replied, his tone firm, his resolve hardening.
Amelia exhaled, a long breath that seemed to carry all of her years of experience and wisdom. "And what if she's dangerous?" she asked, her voice low and serious now, a mother's concern creeping into her words.
Damian smirked, but the expression didn't reach his eyes. He wasn't going to show her any weakness, not now. "Then I'll handle it."
